00:00Whatever you call it, we know what it was.
00:01The last coach fired in season was Jay Gruden.
00:04And that was a really bad team that Bruce Allen had put together.
00:07Bruce Allen had inserted Bill Callahan onto that coaching staff
00:10probably two or three years prior.
00:13Bruce and Callahan go way back to their Raiders days,
00:15probably further back than that.
00:18So what happened that year, their opening stretch was brutal.
00:22They started 0-5.
00:24They were getting their ass kicked.
00:25I'll never forget the way Gruden walked out of the visitor's locker room
00:31at the Meadowlands.
00:33I want to say that was week four.
00:35And they lost 24-3 in that game.
00:37And I remember the look on Jay's eyes that he was like,
00:41I don't know if I'm getting on this bus.
00:43I don't know if I'm getting fired in this tunnel.
00:46But undoubtedly, Bruce kept him around for the Patriots game
00:50because the Pats team that year was a wagon.
00:52Everybody knew Washington would get smoked.
00:54What happens?
00:55Pats come to town, Washington gets smoked, 33-7.
00:58They fired Jay then, and they fired Jay because the following week,
01:03the Skins were playing the Dolphins in Miami.
01:06Both teams were 0-5, and that was the best chance to get Callahan a win
01:10to maybe try to refresh the program.
01:13He got the win.
01:14It almost went to overtime.
01:15It dropped a two-point conversion, likely cost Washington the opportunity
01:19to draft Joe Burrow.
