A corporate power struggle over the control of the Tata Group has sparked a political confrontation between the opposition and the central government. Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi alleged the Modi government is destroying the conglomerate, while Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman responded by accusing him of politicising commercial and legal matters. Earlier, Sharad Pawar backed Noel Tata, calling for the protection of the charitable ownership of Tata Group. The political clash erupted following Tata Trusts Chairman Noel Tata's opposition to the resolution reappointing N. Chandrasekaran as Tata Sons chairman for five years, citing procedural irregularities during a board meeting.
