00:00But tonight's top story, Rahul Gandhi has now issued a clarion call ahead of his Ram Leela Rally of the
00:07India Bloc, Chalo Dilli.
00:09The Congress is mobilizing along with its partners for a showdown at Ram Leela Maidan with SIR and alleged vote
00:17chori at the heart of its protests.
00:20Rahul Gandhi also asked all student bodies to come together irrespective of their political differences.
00:26The opposition is also escalating its confrontation with the Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and plans to hold a public
00:33impeachment event tomorrow at Malik Arjun Kargay's residence.
00:37The BJP is hitting back with its own anti-opposition campaign, even questioning the timing of the march.
00:44Can SIR unite the opposition with competing political priorities? And what really is the end game? It's our top story.
00:59Chalo Dilli, that is the call from Rahul Gandhi.
01:03The leader of opposition on Thursday posted a video inviting everyone to join the India Bloc protest at Delhi's Ram
01:10Leela Maidan on Sunday for what he called is a fight for India's soul.
01:15Chalo Dilli, that is a fight for the country.
01:17All of the people who are behind the East and the East and the East and the East and the
01:17East are against Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, Gyanesh Kumar and Gyanesh Kumar are against the only protest.
01:22There is one protest, the country's protest.
01:24Don't worry about the police. Don't worry about the police. Don't worry about Lattis. Come march with us.
01:31We'll walk together to protect the constitution, to protect the Indian nation.
01:37If you feel that India is under attack, if you feel you're under attack,
01:43your expression, your ideas, your way of thinking is under attack, come and join us.
01:48The Congress is pulling all stops to make its protest against SIR a success.
01:53India bloc leaders met on Thursday to discuss modalities of the public impeachment
01:58of CEC Gyanish Kumar to be held at Congress Chief Malika Arjun Khargay's residence on Saturday.
02:05Former Speaker Meera Kumar will be the presiding officer.
02:09Khargay will move the motion.
02:11Members of civil society, opposition parties and victims of the SIR process will speak at the event.
02:19We are doing impeachment.
02:22All parliament members will be doing their own.
02:37The BGP has been holding its own.
02:40Save democracy, remove anarchy rallies to counter the opposition.
02:46Party President Nitin Nabin attended one such rally at Chandni Chowk on Wednesday.
02:51The party is questioning the choice of date for the Congress's protest.
03:16The Congress is throwing its full weight behind the Chalo Dilli March.
03:20As it attempts to corner the Narendra Modi government.
03:24But will SIR be the glue that hosts the opposition parties, which have different objectives, together remains to be seen.
03:33Bureau Report, India Today.
03:37So let's raise the big questions.
03:38Is Rahul Gandhi now going for broke with his SIR agitation?
03:43Is SIR bringing on vote chori, bringing all anti-BJP, anti-Modi forces together?
03:49Does the SIR vote chori issue really resonate with common citizens?
03:54Is the BJP's padiyatra plan to take on opposition working on the ground?
03:58Joining me now, Pradeep Bhandari, the BJP's national spokesperson.
04:03Advocate, Pranav Dhawan is CJP's spokesperson.
04:05And Guru Mayor Kaur of the Congress, its spokesperson.
04:09Joining me.
04:09Guru Mayor, let me come to you first.
04:11Because Rahul Gandhi, in the video today says,
04:14Sab loog jo Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, Gyanesh Kumar se tang hai,
04:19sabvidhan ki rakshha karna chaate hai, please come.
04:22Calling all those against Amit Shah, Narendra Modi, Gyanesh Kumar to come together.
04:26So, is this now about constitutional questions and the election commission?
04:30Or is this now straight up political march that targets Amit Shah and Narendra Modi as well?
04:36Sir, thank you so much for having me on your show.
04:39I actually want to start with something very simple.
04:41The BJP today has a very, very simple problem tonight.
04:44It is that it simply cannot answer the questions that are being asked by young people.
04:49So, it is deciding to question patriotism instead.
04:52And what we are doing, it is, is it about the question that you're asking?
04:57Is it about the election commission?
05:00Or is it about Narendra Modi and Amit Shah?
05:02Well, it is obviously about the election commission.
05:05And of course, it's linked to Modi and Shah.
05:09Because there are these two people, because of whom there are these SIR regulations that are happening.
05:16So, when, you know, Rahul Gandhi, sir, says, don't worry about police or Latties, come and save the democracy, we
05:24must go and work and save the democracy, as he says.
05:29No, no.
05:29So, is it about saving democracy or is it about ousting Modi Shah?
05:33Let's be clear.
05:34Has this now become less about Gyanesh Kumar and more about Modi Shah?
05:40So, I think it's that same question about regime change.
05:43When there are electoral discrepancies, when there are questions about the electoral process, when there are questions that the current
05:49government is involved in malpractice of the electoral process,
05:55then, of course, when there are very serious allegations that are being put on the government, then, in a situation
06:01like that, the question of whether that government should stay or not stay is 100% on the line.
06:06And it starts with the impeachment of Gyanesh Kumar, which is going to happen on the 1st of November, at
06:11least a public impeachment.
06:13You know, I want to bring in, therefore, Pradeep Bhandari.
06:16Pradeep Bhandari, the Congress is saying you cannot separate the two issues anymore.
06:21There is Gyanesh Kumar as chief election commissioner and the opposition is linking that to Narendra Modi and Amit Shah.
06:27They are one, according to the opposition, that the CEC is batting for Modi Shah.
06:32So, when they call for Gyanesh Kumar to go, naturally, they will also attack Mr. Modi and Amit Shah.
06:38That's the opposition stand.
06:40Your response.
06:45Well, first of all, at the outset, Rajdeep, I just want to show you and tell your viewers that Karnataka
06:51Congress has increased the price of milk by 8 rupees.
06:548 rupees specifically.
06:56That's the biggest hit on the common man which the Karnataka government of the Congress party has done.
07:01And this tells you how hypocritical Rahul Gandhi is.
07:03But let me come to the issue.
07:05Rajdeep B, you've been doing journalism for more than three decades, if I'm not wrong.
07:08And you are a very well-read man of the Indian constitution.
07:12And I want to ask you, and this is through you, I want your viewers to also be educated,
07:17that any decision on the election commissioner who is of the same parameter, particularly the CEC of the Supreme Court
07:22judge,
07:23can only be done by the Indian parliament by two-thirds of members present and voting.
07:28That is how it has to happen by both the houses of the parliament.
07:31So, if the Congress party is so confident about it, the Congress party should ask for a special session, get
07:37the numbers and do it.
07:38No, no, just a minute, just a minute, Mr. Bhandari, they had the 50, no, no, just a minute, sir.
07:4350 MPs did sign, which was the requisite number in March this year,
07:48and yet the chairman of the house didn't allow the impeachment to go through.
07:51If the speaker and the chairman will not allow the impeachment of the speaker inside parliament,
07:56they want to now do it outside.
07:58What's wrong with that?
07:59They want to make a statement.
08:00It's a way of making a political statement.
08:06Let them make, so you also admitted that it's a political statement.
08:09The issue does not have substance because the issue is subjudice.
08:12The Supreme Court is hearing the matter and the Supreme Court has given 10 days of notice to different parties.
08:17So, on your show in the opening, it has been admitted that they are trying to make a political statement.
08:21It is nothing to do with democracy.
08:22Now, let's answer the political question, leave the democracy part aside.
08:26Politically, the people of the country, Rajdeep Jai, are voting more than 90% in various elections,
08:31which means that they have the faith in the electoral process.
08:33The constitutional morality will be decided by the Supreme Court, not by the BJP or the Congress.
08:38And as of right now, the Supreme Court has not given a negative statement on the constitutional morality,
08:42either of the SIR or any of the allegations which Rahul Gandhi is raising.
08:46So, what is this exactly?
08:47This is nothing but Rahul Gandhi attempting to show himself as the leader of the opposition getting everybody along.
08:52So, last time you did not have the Aam Adli Party, you did not have the DMK backing.
08:55And if Rahul Gandhi is saying that this is a march, it should really everybody who is against Prime Minister
08:59Narendra Modi.
09:00So, let's say hypothetically he gets 20 to 25,000 people at Ramlila, hypothetically.
09:05Does it mean according to his logic, then the entire country apart from 20 to 25,000 people are backing
09:09Prime Minister Narendra Modi?
09:11So, my argument here is that nobody is buying what Rahul is saying.
09:15This is why Rahul Gandhi is getting frustrated and time after time, he is shifting goalposts.
09:20For instance, if he has problem with SIR, Karnataka SIR got completed.
09:2499 lakh deletions have happened which is the highest in the country, one of the highest in the country.
09:28And their own Minister Satish Jarki Goli is backing it.
09:30So, he should first sack Satish Jarki Goli if this entire process is for SIR and is a political statement
09:35that he is trying to make.
09:36So, I believe that people are very wise.
09:38You are also wise.
09:39And this is why there are no takers of Rahul Gandhi except his anarchic lot which are few thousands in
09:43nature.
09:43Okay, Guru Mayor, you want a quick response and then I will go to Pranav of the Kokhrush Janata Party.
09:49You see, according to the BJP, 25,000 people, 50,000, 1 lakh gathering at Ramlila Maidan is not India.
09:55They are saying you will have to…
09:57Is this an issue that is going to resonate with India?
10:0025,000 Congress loyalists or India block loyalists is not India?
10:04I think in a democratic country, the entire opposition does represent India.
10:11All the MPs, they carry a certain amount of votes.
10:16Citizens have put their faith and their vote for these MPs and, of course, they do represent India.
10:22I think, to me, this question of whether to politicize SIR, whether to politicize this demand for Ganesh Kumar's resignation.
10:31See, sir, when the electoral process, and I will say this again and again,
10:35when the electoral process is compromised, it is the duty of the opposition to bring forth all the evidence,
10:43to bring forth all the allegations, to bring all the opposition MPs and civil society members together
10:49and demand the resignation of the person responsible for it.
10:55No, but your own ministers in Karnataka and Kerala, some of them have no problems with that same SIR exercise.
11:00I mean, Rahul Gandhi is saying one thing in Delhi, Satish Jarkhioli or in Karnataka says that, you know,
11:06the SIR has been a valuable exercise in removing voters.
11:10Sir, but there is this question of which voters and how many voters and we will keep going back to
11:16those numbers.
11:17For example, even if we, there is this constant conversation that the BJP keeps saying
11:22that we are going to detect, delete and then deport voters, right?
11:27However, they have only been able to find, let's say, around 700, around 700 foreign infiltrators,
11:34many of them from Nepal, but around 13 crore voters have been removed.
11:38So, what I am focusing on and what we are focusing on is what is happening on the larger scale,
11:44that there are 13 crore voters that have been, that have been deleted.
11:47But 13 crore voters include, admittedly, also several who are dead, several who moved residents,
11:53but yes, there are question marks over the number of voters.
11:56I mean, sir, look at Triloghpuri.
11:58I mean, for example, look at four booths in Triloghpuri.
12:00I want to go back.
12:01Yesterday, there was an exercise that happened where voter rolls were put out
12:05and people were asked to come and check.
12:06There are 400, actually, around more than 400 people in simply four booths
12:11whose names were illegally cut.
12:15They are standing there saying, look, here we are,
12:17and yet their names do not make it to the voter roll.
12:19What does the BJP have to say about miscalculations like that?
12:22No, madam, I take your point, but you know, Pradeep Bhandari,
12:27you see, the BJP seems to paint anyone who protests against you as anarchic,
12:31anyone who protests against you as anti-national.
12:34Gurmayr Kaur says, you know, where are the foreign infiltrators?
12:38The BJP kept saying, or your leaders kept saying,
12:40Ghuspetia, Ghuspetia, foreigners are being weeded out.
12:43The numbers actually are showing very few hundred so-called Ghuspetias are weeded out.
12:47So the BJP also needs to recognize that people have the right to dissent.
12:51Even if one eligible voter, one Indian citizen who's eligible is left out,
12:56there's a problem.
12:57So the BJP, why not recognize the problem?
13:00The election commission is making changes after, if the SIR sub-changa see in the SIR,
13:05why are you making, why is the same election commission making those changes?
13:12Rajdeep Ji, let us read that completely.
13:15Not a single eligible voter should be allowed to vote.
13:18At the same time, not a single, ineligible voter should be allowed to vote.
13:22So my argument and submission is A, why should 2.8 crore dead voters be allowed to vote?
13:27And who are those individuals who are voting on the name of 2.8 crore dead voters?
13:30Rajdeep Ji, you are living in Delhi.
13:32Let us say you are from Mumbai hypothetically.
13:34You cannot have vote in two places.
13:36So why are 1 crore people who are duplicate and having two ID cards allowed to vote?
13:40Why should 6.3 crore permanently shifted be allowed to vote?
13:43Why should 3 crore absentee be allowed to vote?
13:46The Indian constitution only gives right to Indian citizen above the age of 18 years to vote.
13:51So at the same time, not a single eligible should be left out to vote.
13:54At the same time, not a single, ineligible should also be allowed to vote.
13:56But let me come on this.
13:58Let's not go with hearsay.
13:59Are they not having faith in Abhishek Manu Singh?
14:01Who is representing them in the Supreme Court?
14:02They can submit all these evidences in the affidavit in front of the Supreme Court of India.
14:06What are they trying to achieve from the street except anarchy and Rahul Gandhi's political statement?
14:10I have no problem with dissent, Rajdeep Ji.
14:12Rahul Gandhi could even protest, take a march till the Supreme Court of India.
14:16Our issue is with statements like Neha Bora who spoke and get inspiration from Neha Bangladesh.
14:21Our issue is with statements like Rashaan Bhushan who said that revolution streets se ho ga,
14:25khun ho ga.
14:25There is no problem with dissent.
14:28In fact, the cockroaches also were allowed to protest on the first hand.
14:31But what was the outcome of it?
14:32When the state trusted them, the outcome was Pattharbadi, the outcome was moved and 700 criminals infiltrating in it.
14:38And this is why they had to sign a peace bond which they were reluctant to sign.
14:41So we have no problem with dissent, but we have problem with anarchy, we have problem with violence
14:45and the state has legitimate right to check that.
14:47Okay, I want to bring in Pranav.
14:48No, no, one minute, ma'am.
14:49I want to bring in Pranav of the Kokruj Jandabadi.
14:52Pranav, you're hearing those statements being made by the BJP.
14:55First of all, I want to ask you, are you all going to join this Ramleela Meidan rally?
14:59Rahul Gandhi is saying he wants everyone who believes that the constitution is under threat to join.
15:04Will the Kokruj Janda Party, the likes of Abhijit Dipke, Saurav Das, Ashutosh Ranka also be part of this rally?
15:11We strongly support the demand of the rally and the spirit of the rally.
15:14But let me just...
15:15No, no, will you join, you support the spirit of the rally, will you join the rally?
15:19We have already given a comprehensive statement on that Rajdeep, nothing beyond that needs to be said by a spokesperson.
15:25No, so why aren't you joining it?
15:26No, I must ask you, why aren't you joining the rally?
15:28If you believe that this is all about...
15:30Rahul Gandhi is saying today in his statement he wants everyone who believes that the constitution
15:34khatre mein hai to join?
15:36We are an independent political pressure group.
15:39We decide our strategies according to various decisions and we are also a group which is
15:43spread out all over India.
15:44We are not just a Delhi-based outfit.
15:46We will take our decisions as they go along.
15:48You have seen a statement from the founder, president of the party and further steps will
15:53be taken.
15:53But let me point out two very core hypocrisies of the BJP on this point.
15:58BJP today disturbed the traders and businessmen of Chandni Chong.
16:01They did a rally.
16:04I want to know whether they took a 10-day permission for it, whether there was an economic
16:07impact assessment done, whether there was a notice given to the court about how much
16:11impact they did the padhyatra.
16:13Secondly, and this is the BJP which has come to power after movements like Ramjan Bhumi movement
16:21and it is now criminalizing the very act of making issues politically in the republic.
16:25We all have a right to political justice.
16:27How can we not have politics about issues with the subjudice?
16:29There is no rule of law known to law or to jurisprudence which say that if something
16:33is a matter pending in court, you cannot have politics about it.
16:36In a republic, you are supposed to have politics.
16:38Finally, the BJP's problem is that it wants to have a dadagiri over what is Indian and what
16:44is not Indian.
16:45If people are going to India party rally, they are not Indian.
16:48If people are eating meat during Nazaratri, they are not Indian.
16:51If people are participating in CJP rallies and want to have jobs in UP, they are not Indian.
16:55The BJP needs to know that it has only gotten the license to govern India under the system
17:00of political legitimacy run by legitimate elections.
17:03And if it continues to run roughshod over our elections and compromise them and manipulate
17:08them, the youth of India and the people of India will not tolerate it.
17:11The courts of India will also come down heavily on it.
17:13So, please don't try to hide behind the courts and the judicial process.
17:16We have all faith in the lawyers who represent us in courts.
17:18But that does not mean that we have mortgaged our political rights to advocate for justice.
17:23I have heard you and you have spoken very strongly.
17:25But Pradeep Bhandar, you see, it is interesting.
17:27You are coming on the show and saying you have no problem with the right to dissent, no problem
17:30with the right to protest.
17:31You have a problem with those who call for violence and anarchy.
17:34But you have got in Uttar Pradesh, your Chief Minister, Yogi Arityanath, his government
17:37saying we won't give government jobs to those who protest.
17:41Are you essentially saying that the right to protest is unconstitutional?
17:45You are going to delegitimize anyone who goes to protest.
17:48So, you've got the, you've got Rahul Gandhi inviting people to come and protest.
17:52He's not saying that this is not supposedly a violent protest.
17:55But the BJP is immediately in Uttar Pradesh saying anyone who goes to these protests will
18:00not be given a government job.
18:02How can you link the right to protest to a government job?
18:06Rajdeep Ji.
18:09Rajdeep Ji, first of all, Constitution Article 19 1A has to be read with Constitution.
18:15Constitutional Article 19 1B.
18:17So, let's not read 19 Article 19 in isolation or selectively.
18:22Point number two, service rules of anybody who applies for a government job.
18:26Please, he or she, there is no political protest, quote unquote.
18:31Mr. Cockroach, I was not interrupting you.
18:34Relax.
18:34You can speak in your time.
18:36Number two, it is nothing to do with protest.
18:37It is to do with political protest, which are anarchic in nature.
18:40And any individual who wants to be a government servant, please read the civil services rule.
18:44He or she need not be engaged in any political activity.
18:48They need not have a political bias.
18:50Now, point number two.
18:50And if you have a problem with it, the government order can be challenged in the court.
18:54Now, a very specific point.
18:55Please, Rajdeep Ji, you tell me.
18:57Anything which is to do with the constitutionality of a matter, which is illegal, legal, constitution,
19:02not, it will not be decided through streets.
19:05Can you tell me that tomorrow, let's say, hypothetically, they have 2 lakh people outside
19:10Ramlila or 200 people outside Ramlila.
19:12How will it affect in terms of the arguments which are made in front of the court of law?
19:16Because the matter which is decided in the court of law, in this case with Rahul Gandhi,
19:20says that the entire SIR exercise, according to Rahul, was illegal.
19:22So, this will be decided on the basis of the merit of the case.
19:25It does not matter how much Bharatiya Janta party mobilized or how much Congress mobilized.
19:29That's politics.
19:29So, let us admit on your show that what cockroach and Congress is doing is not constitutional,
19:33not democratic.
19:34It's politics.
19:35And so was the Ramjanma Bhumi.
19:38No, no, no.
19:39Pradeep Bhandari, good argument.
19:40Pradeep Bhandari, good argument.
19:42But the same thing was said about the Ramjanma Bhumi movement.
19:45That also was outside.
19:46No, no.
19:46You see, once you allow street protest, when you are in the opposition, you have to be protested on
19:51the street.
19:51I'll answer.
19:52Now, when they protest, you have a problem with it.
19:54Quick answer and then I'll go to my other guest.
19:55Quick answer.
19:57No, no.
19:58Rajdeep ji.
19:59Rajdeep ji.
20:00I have no problem with protest till the time they do not back likes of Sharjee Limam who
20:04wants chicken neck to be out of the country.
20:06I have no problem with the protest till the time Mr. Prashant Bhushan does not give clarion
20:10calls of streets and arki ho ga aur stadak pe khun bae ga.
20:12I have no problem with the protest till the time they do not take inspiration from Bangladesh.
20:16I have no problem with the protest till the time they do not say ki sangsa dukhaad fek denge.
20:20If we had problem with the protest, people would not be sitting in Jantar Mantar for more than 25 to
20:2630 days, Rajdeep ji.
20:27So, please, you have to respect that the government has given the right to protest.
20:30We are not Indira Gandhi who would impose emergency.
20:32We give people right to opinion, but it cannot be at the cost of anarchy.
20:35Okay, let me ask Gurmayar Kaur and Pranav to intervene.
20:39Gurmayar, to you, is there an end game?
20:41You know, Rahul Gandhi, it seems he is going for broke.
20:44Day after day, he wants the eyeballs, the narrative.
20:47But what is the end game?
20:49There is a matter, as Pradeep points out, is being heard in the court.
20:52Why not wait till the Supreme Court decides on it?
20:54Sir, I am actually going to start with the comments that have been made about anarchy.
20:58I feel like Pradeep Bhandari here very skillfully, and I must congratulate him on his skill,
21:03skillfully building a picture where there is actual anarchy that is happening out on the streets,
21:08whereas it is not.
21:10It is factually incorrect.
21:10What is happening on the streets, the young people are coming out, speaking up,
21:13and what the BJP has done, it has turned Delhi into a garrison,
21:18where the state police and the state resources were used to detain,
21:23to hurt protesting students and put them brutally into buses.
21:27The entire country has seen what has happened and who the anarchic forces were.
21:32What is happening on November 1?
21:33November 1, there is the Vote Bachao, Desh Batao rally that has gotten the police permissions.
21:37This NOC was granted on October 17th.
21:40And yet, you know, sir, we are again and again,
21:42so hearing things about anarchy, foreign toolkit, regime change.
21:47Sir, this is the language that the British used to use against Mahatma Gandhi.
21:51You know, your Edwin Montgau called Gandhi's non-corporation movement an anarchical movement in 1922.
21:59So almost, you know, a hundred years later,
22:01what is happening is that you've got a government in place
22:04that is consistently using the language of the colonial masters.
22:08Okay, I've heard you.
22:10I've heard you.
22:10I've heard you.
22:11And the language has really not changed at all.
22:14And my question is exactly that.
22:16You know, and the question that people on 1st of November will be asking is this.
22:21You know, there are 1,400 deletions in four votes.
22:25I will keep coming back to that number because it's just four votes.
22:271,416 votes have been deleted.
22:29Those people are standing right there saying we exist.
22:32We are raising very serious questions about the Election Commission
22:34and about its own affidavits.
22:37These questions, sir, they deserve answers.
22:41They do not deserve some stories about anarchy.
22:43I take your point.
22:44I will give Pranav a final word.
22:46Pranav, as a lawyer turned CJP spokesperson, a final word.
22:51According to Paradeep Pradeep,
22:52let the Supreme Court decide.
22:54Allow me 10 seconds in bed, please.
22:55I want to remind the BJP of Article 19, Subclass 2,
22:58which says there can only be reasonable restriction on eight enumerated grounds.
23:02None of these grounds relate to the political proclivities of a potential employee.
23:06My dear friend, yesterday you had beaten up a policeman and even attempted to lynch that.
23:10No, no, no, Pradeep, you're being unfair.
23:13How is this interference permitted?
23:14No, no, you tell me, will the RSS participation and listening
23:18and mandatory listening of Man Ki Baath also be forbidden
23:21under the UP Civil Services Rule and I will rest my place.
23:25Let that be made very clear that anyone who is participating
23:28in a mandatory Man Ki Baath listening and RSS SAGAR
23:31will not be eligible for government jobs in UP.
23:33Let us end it there.
23:34Secondly, we will have to ultimately run this country by the edicts of the court
23:40and we have to justify.
23:42Why has Jantar Mantar been denotified?
23:44Why has Jantar Mantar been denotified?
23:46No, no, no, Pradeep, no.
23:47Let him finish.
23:48You know, we must show courtesy to each other.
23:53You all are younger people.
23:54Pradeep Bhandari, final word therefore to you.
23:56Has Rahul Gandhi in the end again got under your skin?
23:59Are you all rattled with Rahul Gandhi trying to make these speeches?
24:02Or do you believe that you can handle Rahul Gandhi?
24:06Your problem is more with these student protesters
24:09who don't affiliate themselves to any party?
24:16Rajdeep ji, the students of the country voted in Delhi University
24:19Student Union elections and the Congress got nailed.
24:22No, no, no, no, no, you cannot intervene.
24:26Sorry.
24:26Let's not link it to that.
24:28Let's not link it to that.
24:30We are very, very happy with Rahul Gandhi protesting
24:33because the more Rahul Gandhi protests,
24:35the more votes of the BJP increase.
24:37We have only problem with Rahul Gandhi's inarchy
24:39because last time when he protested, he was unpredicted.
24:41We attempted to push some female policemen.
24:44We never, he did not follow the lines in front.
24:46And my dear cockroaches, last time when you protested,
24:49there was attempt to lynch a policeman.
24:51So please do not...
24:52No, no, no.
24:52You see, Pradeep Bhandari, select...
24:54There are...
24:56Pradeep Bhandari, there are examples of Hindu Raksha Dal.
25:01Members attacking protesters, peaceful protesters.
25:04So let's not go...
25:05You know, let's not be selective.
25:07These are serious issues.
25:08We can all use all kinds of videos.
25:10Two wrongs don't make a right.
25:11Two wrongs don't make a right.
25:12No, no, it's not about two wrongs don't make a right.
25:14The fact is...
25:15It's a matter of investigation.
25:16Okay, I'm going to leave it there.
25:18You put a Supreme Court...
25:18I've heard all three of you.
25:20I wonder though what the end game is.
25:21So now you are saying the matters of investigation.
25:23I still wonder...
25:24No, so when it is a matter of investigation,
25:25how can you have selective videos?
25:27Okay, we've heard all three.
25:29Okay, we've heard all three.
25:30Put the faders down, producer.
25:32It's supposed to be news without the noise.
25:34These are all young faces.
25:36And you can see them all holding very strongly to their positions.
25:39Hopefully, one day we can get them to dialogue with each other
25:43rather than talk at each other.
25:44Maybe that's what we need to ensure that protests are allowed space
25:49and dialogue is also allowed space.
25:52That's the way perhaps you might find an end game
25:54to what's been happening on the streets.
25:56Okay, let's turn from there to the MLC elections
25:59that in Maharashtra in particular have created a bit of a stir
26:03because remember, here out of the five seats,
26:05the opposition Vikas Agadi has won three of them.
26:09including a victory for the sitting Congress candidate in Nagpur,
26:13the home turf of Union Minister Nitin Gadkari
26:15and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
26:17While the opposition is hailing the verdict,
26:20the ruling party seems to be now, ruling NDA,
26:24seems to be split over just what went wrong.
26:27Take a look.
26:38Five seats, three wins for the opposition,
26:41two for the ruling alliance in the Maharashtra MLC ports.
26:45While the Maharashtra Vikas Agadi won all three graduate constituencies,
26:49the Mahayuti clinched the two teachers' constituencies.
26:53Here is the break-up.
26:54The BJP won Pune teachers,
26:56Eknat Shindes, Shiv Sena retained Amravati teachers.
27:00The NCP led by Ajit Pawar failed to open its account,
27:03losing the Chhatrapati-Sambhaji Nagar graduates' seat
27:07to Sharad Pawar's party.
27:09NCP-SP also won Aurangabad graduates
27:11and the Congress won Nagpur graduates.
27:14The results have put the spotlight on the discord within the Mahayuti.
27:18In the seat-sharing arrangement,
27:21BJP had got three seats and Shiv Sena and NCP won each.
27:25But the Sena had wanted a bigger share.
27:28In Pune teacher's constituency,
27:30though the Sena withdrew its candidate,
27:32the party backed Independent Sachin Sanab,
27:35a former aide to Industries Minister Uday Samad,
27:39against the BJP's Kostab Gawadi.
27:41Though the BJP won the seat,
27:43the episode raised questions about coordination
27:46within the ruling alliance.
28:06In Pune graduates, BJP fielded Smita Jadaw
28:10over ruling claims by Sena and NCP.
28:13She lost the seat to NCP-SP candidate
28:15Harshida Deshmukh Jadaw.
28:29NCP-SP candidate Dr. Pratap Sin Patil
28:32defeated sitting MLC Satish Chavan
28:35of the Ajit Pawar-led NCP
28:37in Aurangabad graduates' constituency.
28:40Here, local leaders of Shinde Sena
28:42had indicated support to the opposition candidate
28:44before the top leadership stepped in
28:46and restored order.
28:47The most dramatic contest unfolded
28:50in Nagpur graduates,
28:51the home turf of Chief Minister
28:53Devendra Fadnavas
28:54and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari.
28:56BJP candidate Sudhakar Kohle
28:59initially led Congress incumbent
29:00Abhijit Vanjari.
29:02But after an extended counting progress,
29:05Vanjari emerged victorious
29:07through the transfer of preference votes.
29:10Vanjari secured 67,231 votes
29:14against Kohle's 63,960,
29:18winning by 3,271 votes.
29:44R.A.C.S.
30:05Now allegations emerging that
30:08not a single partner supported each other
30:11during voting time
30:13and even during political rallies,
30:15interestingly,
30:16now questions are being raised
30:17on their coordination
30:18and the coalition in Mahayuti Alliance.
30:21And that is why
30:22blame game has started in Maharashtra.
30:24With camera person Raju Ravankar,
30:26this is Omkar Wabla, India Today, Mumbai.
30:31Okay, let's turn away from the politics
30:33to something positive.
30:35The government,
30:36the central government
30:37has reduced the prices formally now
30:39of 543 anti-cancer drug brands.
30:44The revised rates will come into effect
30:46from the 9th of November.
30:47The Supreme Court is now examining
30:49whether trade margin
30:50should also be capped
30:51for other essential medicines too.
30:53The Karnataka government,
30:55for example,
30:55is pushing for greater transparency
30:57in drug prices.
30:59Could this be a game changer
31:00for lakhs of patients
31:02across the country?
31:03We'll discuss that,
31:04but first take a look at this report.
31:11The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority
31:13revises the maximum retail price
31:15of 137 non-scheduled anti-cancer medicines
31:18after capping trade margins at 30%.
31:21Generic and biosimilar cancer drugs
31:24have seen up to 93% price cuts.
31:27But no price cuts
31:28in 65 high-cost cancer drugs.
31:30The new prices will take effect
31:32from November 9th.
31:34Even as central government
31:35decided to cap the trade margin
31:37at 30% on cancer drugs,
31:38the Supreme Court is considering
31:40if it should be done
31:42for other essential drugs as well.
31:46During a hearing on Tuesday,
31:47a two-judge bench of Justice Vikram Nath
31:49and Justice Sandeep Mehta
31:51asked the government
31:52why a medicine sold to retailers
31:54for 10 to 20 rupees
31:56carries an MRP of 100 rupees.
31:59The court,
32:00which had taken up the matter
32:01of drug pricing in July
32:02after a woman
32:03who had filed a petition
32:04in Kerala High Court
32:06died of cancer,
32:07has reserved its order.
32:09The issue of excessive mark-ups
32:11in the pharmaceutical supply chain
32:13was also raised
32:14by Karnataka Health Minister
32:16U.T. Khadir.
32:17The minister says
32:18the problem extends beyond oncology.
32:40The Karnataka government
32:41recently issued a circular
32:43to all healthcare institutions
32:45to ensure that both
32:46the purchase cost
32:47and the maximum retail price
32:49of medicines
32:50are mentioned in bills
32:52issued to patients.
32:54The advisory comes into effect
32:55on November 1st.
32:57While patients and public health advocates
32:59have long raised concerns
33:00about medicine affordability,
33:03the healthcare industry
33:04also argues that drug pricing
33:06also involves a complex supply chain.
33:10The private hospitals
33:12have their own pharmacy
33:15which they maintain,
33:16especially in oncology
33:18and other,
33:18which are extremely costly drugs.
33:21From the manufacturer
33:22to the pharmacy,
33:24a strong cold chain
33:25to be maintained,
33:26quality control
33:27to be maintained.
33:28Majority of these drugs,
33:29cancer drugs,
33:30are very expensive.
33:31Though those drugs
33:33which are imported
33:34from the other countries,
33:35they are very expensive,
33:36like immunotherapy,
33:38targeted therapy.
33:39So they are very expensive.
33:41If they make
33:42a manufacturer in India,
33:44then you can reduce
33:45the rate prices.
33:4630% price cap
33:48on cancer drugs
33:49may bring in relief
33:50to thousands and lakhs
33:51of patients
33:52across the country.
33:53While the Karnataka government
33:54wants this to be extended
33:56to other life-saving drugs,
33:57the Supreme Court
33:58also has questioned
33:59why should this not be implemented
34:01for other drugs too.
34:02Is this the beginning
34:03of a wider crackdown
34:05on exorbitant
34:06life-saving drugs?
34:08Nagar Jundwar Kanath
34:09for India Today.
34:11So let's raise
34:12the big question.
34:13Will cancer treatment
34:14now finally get cheaper
34:15in the country?
34:16Should the cap
34:17on these anti-cancer medicines
34:19apply to other medicines
34:20as well?
34:21Are private hospitals
34:23and the supply chain
34:24fleecing patients
34:25at the moment?
34:26Joining me now
34:26is UT Kader.
34:28He's the Minister
34:29for Health and Family Welfare
34:31in Karnataka.
34:32I'm also joined by
34:35Dr. S.K. Sareen,
34:37Director Institute of Liver
34:38and Biolary Sciences,
34:39New Delhi.
34:40And by Dr. Swaminathan,
34:43Dr. Subramaniam Swaminathan,
34:44Director Infectious Diseases
34:45and Infection Control
34:46at Glen Eagles Hospital
34:47in Chennai.
34:49Dr. Kader,
34:50Mr. Kader,
34:51first you.
34:52It's good to see
34:52that you,
34:54opposition government
34:55and the centre
34:56working together on this.
34:57You had written to
34:58J.P. Nada
34:59and the union government
35:00and they have brought down
35:01now anti-cancer medicines.
35:03Are you satisfied
35:04or do you believe
35:05now this should extend
35:06to all drug prices,
35:08not just anti-cancer medicines?
35:14One way I am happy
35:15that at least a little part
35:18have been successful
35:19and I thank all the
35:21state and national media
35:22because whatever
35:23we have published
35:24it has taken a discussion
35:25by you all
35:26in national level
35:26and Supreme Court
35:28has taken the observation
35:29and suggested
35:30the central government
35:30also.
35:31Now I appreciate
35:33the central more
35:34for reducing the prices.
35:36This will benefit
35:37a lot of patients
35:38throughout India
35:39and for other
35:41kidney,
35:42heart
35:42and eye
35:44cost prices
35:45of the drugs
35:46are there.
35:46They should be reduced.
35:48Why unnecessarily
35:49the people of India
35:51should spend
35:51from their pocket
35:52for this treatment?
35:53No, but the question
35:55is whether
35:56this steep price
35:58cut
35:59Mr. Kadar
36:00in cancer medicine
36:01will translate
36:02into savings
36:02for patients
36:03because as you
36:04yourself had pointed
36:05out earlier
36:06in the month
36:06of September
36:07when you wrote
36:07to JP Nanda
36:08that the worry
36:09is that there
36:11is a substantial
36:12markup between
36:13procurement costs
36:14and the prices
36:14that are charged
36:15to patients.
36:16Will that change
36:17or not?
36:19Yeah.
36:21It should change.
36:22That is what
36:23the new system is.
36:24What is the
36:25landing cost means
36:26at what cost
36:27the hospitals
36:28and pharmacy
36:29get this medicine
36:30and the MRP
36:31means and what
36:32they are selling.
36:32The both should
36:33be mentioned.
36:34At least the people
36:34will come to know
36:35how many profit
36:36they take.
36:37So there will be
36:37a control on
36:38the price limit.
36:39This will benefit
36:39the patients.
36:40So you are saying
36:41there will be an MRP
36:42now on all
36:43anti-cancer drugs
36:45and that will
36:46include it
36:47even at the level
36:48of the pharmacy
36:48or the hospitals.
36:49Am I correct?
36:50That there will be
36:51no difference
36:52between what is
36:53in the entire
36:54supply chain.
36:59See,
37:00even now
37:00with the MRP
37:01the issue is
37:01if for example
37:02one pharma company
37:04produces an injection
37:06for 5000 rupees
37:07this my selling cost
37:09in the hospital
37:10was it is
37:1165,000 rupees
37:13and now
37:13only the 30% cap
37:15it will be
37:16only 6500 rupees.
37:17so there is
37:19so much
37:20rise
37:20there should be
37:21cut down
37:21and
37:22it should be
37:23mentioned
37:24what is the
37:25what rate
37:26the hospital
37:27pharmacy
37:27getting the
37:28medicine injection
37:28and what
37:29they are selling
37:30also should be
37:31mentioned in the
37:31bill also.
37:32So at least
37:33there will be
37:33a transparency
37:34will be there
37:35and people
37:35will have
37:36got confidence.
37:37Others people
37:37who have lost
37:38their confidence
37:38because they
37:39think it is
37:39more 1000 times
37:41200 times
37:42300 times
37:42the more
37:43what is
37:43before
37:44there should
37:45erase
37:46there should
37:46be trust
37:47between the
37:48hospitals
37:49and the
37:49patients.
37:50I take your
37:51point
37:51let's bring in
37:52the hospital
37:53guest
37:53Dr. Swaminathan
37:55you are a
37:55director of a
37:55hospital
37:56will the
37:57benefit of
37:57anti-cancer
38:00prices being
38:01capped
38:02be passed
38:03on to the
38:03patient
38:04and do you
38:04believe it
38:05should just
38:05be anti-cancer
38:06or medicines
38:06in general
38:07should have
38:07a very clear
38:08MRP now.
38:11We have
38:11already started
38:12that process
38:13many of
38:13the antibiotics
38:14were already
38:15capped by the
38:16government of
38:17India which I
38:17believe was a
38:18positive step
38:18because healthcare
38:19inflation is
38:20something which
38:21is really scary
38:22and the cost
38:23of healthcare
38:23today is
38:24becoming
38:24astronomically
38:25high.
38:26There are
38:27various factors
38:27to this and
38:28one of the
38:28important factors
38:29is obviously
38:30medications.
38:31This reminds
38:32me of the
38:32Salk-Friedman
38:33discussion where
38:35Jonas Salk who
38:35invented the
38:36polio vaccine
38:36refused to
38:37patent it and
38:38his question
38:39was would you
38:39patent the
38:40sun?
38:41Now obviously
38:42when we talk
38:42about life
38:43saving medicines
38:44it has to be
38:44in the public
38:45domain and it
38:46has to be for
38:46the greater
38:47good of the
38:47humanity while
38:48at the same
38:49time there has
38:49to be skin in
38:50the game and
38:50some incentivization
38:52for research and
38:53further development.
38:55No but how will
38:57hospitals disclose
38:58the actual
38:59procurement or will
39:00they disclose the
39:01actual procurement
39:01prices of these
39:03medicines, the
39:04implants, the
39:04other medical
39:05supplies along with
39:06the margin
39:06charge?
39:07Will there be a
39:07disclosure from
39:08the hospital?
39:09I don't expect
39:11that to happen.
39:11The point is
39:12that the only
39:13thing that can
39:14be regulated is
39:15the MRP.
39:16The only thing
39:17that can be
39:17regulated is the
39:18MRP and I
39:19think that's the
39:19only way to go
39:20because procurement
39:22price again is a
39:23negotiation.
39:24Very often a
39:25larger institution
39:26when it has larger
39:27volumes can
39:27negotiate better
39:28prices.
39:29So therefore the
39:30procurement price
39:31even for the
39:31same brand may
39:32vary from hospital
39:33to hospital and
39:34that's not something
39:35we should use as a
39:35benchmark.
39:36I think the
39:37government setting
39:37a clear MRP for
39:39the important
39:39drugs is definitely
39:41a good idea and
39:42that's the only way
39:42to do it.
39:43You know Dr.
39:44Sareen during the
39:45proceedings in the
39:46Supreme Court an
39:48example was given
39:48an injection
39:49reportedly purchased
39:50for around 11,000
39:51was billed at
39:52rupees 1.3 lakh
39:54by the hospital.
39:56Do you believe now
39:57therefore that there
39:58needs to be what
39:59we what has been
39:59done with anti-cancer
40:01will have to go to
40:02other medicines and
40:04that there will be
40:04have to be complete
40:05clarity.
40:06Should the center
40:07amend the drug
40:08price control order
40:09to place a clearer
40:10in a way a clearer
40:12limit on hospital
40:13markups?
40:16I also salute you
40:17and Justice
40:19Vikram and Justice
40:21Mehta for having
40:22taken this.
40:24It is a very
40:25important issue and
40:26we face it every
40:27day.
40:27A simple IV drip
40:29you know drip set
40:31costs about 15
40:32rupees but patients
40:33are charged to 50
40:34rupees.
40:34It is just not the
40:36drugs but it is
40:37also the consumables.
40:38Clearly there is a
40:40need for us to
40:40define the process
40:42and I will list
40:43out the things.
40:44What is the
40:45factory output
40:46price and what
40:48is the cost for
40:49the retailer?
40:50What is the
40:51procurement cost to
40:52the hospital and
40:53what is the selling
40:54price?
40:55Selling price is
40:56MRP.
40:56All these four
40:58should be clearly
40:59mentioned that the
41:00production is only
41:01for 2 rupees and
41:02you are selling it
41:03for 500 rupees.
41:04This is not
41:04acceptable.
41:06Number two we
41:06should prioritize
41:07which are the
41:08drugs.
41:09Besides anti-cancer
41:10there are more
41:11you know cancer may
41:12still patient may
41:12still live for a few
41:13months but a
41:14patient in ICU
41:15needs antibiotics,
41:18antifungals,
41:19anticoagulants,
41:20maybe albumin,
41:21maybe many such
41:22ICU related drugs,
41:23drugs for the lungs
41:24and for the kidney.
41:26There is really a
41:27need for at least
41:285 to 7 such top
41:29areas which should
41:30be prioritized and
41:31the drugs should be
41:32discussed by a group
41:33of people.
41:34Yes for first top
41:35100 drugs which
41:36are used every day
41:37in emergency must
41:39become now price
41:40kept.
41:40So what you are
41:41saying is what's
41:42happened with
41:43anti-cancer must now
41:44extend to other
41:45drugs and medicines
41:46as well?
41:47Yes but I want to
41:49put two things
41:49before you that
41:51WHO in fact have
41:52said that you
41:53should have a
41:53regressive price
41:55markup system.
41:56More expensive the
41:57drug, lesser the
41:58margin.
41:59The weaker, the
42:00cheaper the drug
42:01then you should
42:02give more margin
42:03because you have to
42:03go to the rural
42:04area.
42:04If the drug costs
42:0550 rupees, the
42:06guy will store,
42:08pharmacist will
42:09never store it and
42:10you will have no
42:10simple aspirin or
42:11paracetamol available.
42:13So we should make
42:14sure that this is
42:15available.
42:16Also government
42:17and maybe the
42:18Supreme Court has
42:19a huge mandate
42:19that the quality
42:21control of genetic
42:22drugs should be
42:22maintained but it
42:24must extend to
42:25drugs which are
42:26essential life
42:27saving drugs.
42:27You know, how are
42:28you going to
42:29monitor it Mr.
42:30Kader?
42:31It's one thing from
42:31November 9th that
42:32these anti-cancer
42:33drugs will get
42:34cheaper.
42:35How are you going
42:35to monitor it?
42:36How will the
42:36government monitor
42:37that hospitals,
42:38pharmacies are all
42:39adhering to this
42:45MRP?
42:46See, we have got a
42:47system in the
42:48drug, our food and
42:51drug department.
42:52How we have
42:53found out the
42:53landing cost and
42:54the MRP what they
42:55are doing till now,
42:56our officers will
42:57find out this also.
42:58And along there I
42:59want to tell one more
43:00thing.
43:00The rate shouldn't be
43:01for the medicines on
43:03high risk, high cost
43:04drugs on the brand.
43:07It should be on the
43:07formula.
43:08The formula is same,
43:09the brand is different
43:10when the why the
43:12rate should be
43:13different on brand
43:14or any formula is
43:16same, then the rate
43:17of the price, the
43:18rate of this medicine
43:19should be same only.
43:21The medicines for
43:22the common people
43:23given should not
43:23come on brand.
43:24It's common formula
43:25that we should see.
43:26Let me ask Dr.
43:27Swaminathan that.
43:28Is that possible
43:28Dr. Swaminathan?
43:31So the problem is
43:33that the manufacturing
43:34process also varies.
43:35Please understand
43:36that the same molecule
43:37may be manufactured
43:38by two different
43:39processes and that
43:41makes a difference to
43:42the bioavailability
43:43of the drug.
43:43We have had
43:44situations where
43:45we have had
43:46generic drugs,
43:47good companies,
43:48where they show
43:49good amount of
43:50drug in the
43:51tablet or the
43:53preparation.
43:53But unfortunately
43:54in the patient's
43:55body the levels
43:56may not be adequate.
43:57So what we need
43:58is also like Dr.
43:59Sarin pointed out
44:00we need to have
44:01stronger systems in
44:02place where we
44:02just don't look at
44:03whether let's say
44:04300 milligrams,
44:05not just whether
44:06300 milligrams is
44:06there in the drug
44:07but also whether
44:08it achieves blood
44:09levels in the
44:10patient which are
44:11comparable to the
44:12original molecule and
44:13things like that.
44:14So please keep in
44:14mind that this is a
44:15very complex area and
44:16there are multiple
44:17moving parts.
44:18All of it has to be
44:18accounted for.
44:20Dr. Sarin, you
44:21remain hopeful though.
44:22Are you hopeful that
44:23we will, that finally
44:25there is at least a
44:25recognition that this
44:27is an important step
44:28forward?
44:29Is the hospital
44:30community going to be
44:31the medical community
44:32on one page on this
44:33or will there still be
44:35a temptation for
44:35profiteering?
44:37Well, the medical
44:38community will certainly
44:39like the patients to
44:40benefit but we don't
44:41want to have a cheap
44:42drug as Dr.
44:44Swaminathan says
44:45which also costs
44:46something and also
44:47you lose a life.
44:48You must have quality
44:49standards for generic
44:51drugs before we issue
44:52pre-qualification bits.
44:54We must have testing
44:55facilities.
44:56I give you a very
44:57simple and useful
44:58formula.
44:59WHO as well as the
45:01nation has an
45:02essential drug list.
45:03Now, you can have
45:05pricing at two levels.
45:06One, you have X price
45:07but if you want to get
45:08into the essential
45:09drug list means
45:10everybody will have
45:11to have their drug.
45:12You negotiate at that
45:14time.
45:14Look, you were selling
45:15it for 5,000 but if
45:16you want to be in the
45:17national drug list,
45:18essential drug list
45:19of WHO, bring it to
45:211,000.
45:21So you maintain the
45:22quality but you give
45:24the pharma a huge
45:25market space.
45:27I also would like to
45:28say that there is a
45:30need for us, all the
45:31citizens also to be
45:32aware.
45:33You go to a drug store,
45:34don't buy over the
45:35counter.
45:36Make sure it is a
45:37doctor's prescription
45:38and that you take the
45:40right drug from the
45:41right company but I
45:43would all, I am afraid
45:44that if you give same
45:45pricing to everybody
45:47with all respect to the
45:48Karnataka minister,
45:49you will have black
45:51marketing coming.
45:52You will say, I want
45:53that company's drug.
45:54Sir, it is not
45:55available.
45:56Sir, I pay you some
45:56extra and the drug
45:57comes out.
45:59I think we have to
46:00be careful.
46:00Okay, we have to be
46:02careful but I want to
46:03today say, I don't say
46:04this too often on the
46:05show but Mr.
46:07Kadar, both to you and
46:09JP Nadda, the health
46:10minister, I think both of
46:12you and the courts
46:13deserve compliments for
46:14at least having taken a
46:15major step forward.
46:17We want to see more
46:18such public interest
46:19moves made by the
46:20government.
46:21So good on you, Mr.
46:22Kadar, good on you,
46:23Mr. Nadda.
46:24We need to see that
46:24happen more often in
46:26this country.
46:26Health and education
46:27are the key really to
46:29the future.
46:29Yes, Mr. Kadar, very
46:30quickly.
46:31Yes.
46:32If I get it, one
46:33second, one second.
46:35Yes.
46:36See, I request
46:37central government, why
46:38always the court should
46:39come in between?
46:40The central government
46:41should come forward,
46:42take a decision for the
46:43benefit of the public.
46:45We shouldn't wait for
46:46the court always.
46:46The government can't
46:48wait for the court
46:48decision always.
46:49I think that's well
46:51said.
46:51If Mr. Nadda, you're
46:52listening to this, please
46:54move beyond anti-cancer
46:55to other essential
46:56medicines as well.
46:57Do not wait for the
46:58courts to intervene.
46:59Mr. Kadar, Dr.
47:00Swaminathan, Dr.
47:02Sareen, thank you very
47:02much for joining us.
47:03To a big story coming
47:04from Tamil Nadu, where
47:05former Tamil Nadu
47:06minister K.N.
47:07Nehru is facing raids
47:09in an alleged 634
47:10crore rupee cash for
47:12job scam.
47:13The raids follow a
47:13Madras high court
47:14directive.
47:15The DMK is accusing
47:16the ruling TVK
47:17government of using
47:18the action to
47:19intimidate party
47:20members.
47:20But clearly, the DMK
47:22too will have much
47:24to answer.
47:24Take a look.
47:32First, Senthil Balaji
47:34was raided.
47:38Then, Anbil Mahesh
47:39was arrested.
47:44Now, it's K.N.
47:46Nehru who is raided.
47:47DMK's former ministers
47:49are facing the heat
47:50as Vijay government
47:51carries out a crackdown
47:52on corruption.
47:54K.N.
47:54Nehru is the second
47:55former minister to face
47:56action in one week
47:57with the Directorate of
47:59Vigilance and Anti-Corruption
48:00conducting raids in an
48:02alleged cash for job
48:03scam.
48:04Around 25 locations
48:05across Tamil Nadu
48:06linked to K.N.
48:07Nehru were raided.
48:08The DMK MLA has
48:09called the raids
48:10a witch hunt
48:11against his party.
48:16K.N.
48:42The DMK is accusing
48:44the TVK government
48:45of using raid
48:46to divert public
48:47attention from
48:48criticism over the
48:50deteriorating law
48:51and order situation
48:52in the state.
48:53The party also
48:54took a dig at
48:55Chief Minister Vijay
48:56using a jailer
48:57to poster to mock him.
48:58The TVK has hit back
49:00saying no one
49:00involved in corruption
49:01will be spared.
49:03Now since they are
49:04getting exposed
49:05and since people
49:07started knowing
49:08about their
49:09original face
49:10and how they
49:11have collected
49:12party funds
49:12and how they
49:13have looted
49:13this terminal
49:13so DMK
49:14they don't have
49:15anything
49:15they are just
49:16blaming on the
49:16government
49:16see on the
49:17law and other
49:18there has been
49:18no procedure
49:19perhaps like
49:19what happened
49:20in the previous
49:20DMK government
49:21so CM has
49:22ordered for a
49:23clear cut
49:24inquiry
49:24in all type
49:25of cases.
49:27Adding to the
49:28DMK's troubles
49:29another party
49:30leader
49:30a close aide
49:31of former
49:32minister Anvil
49:33Mahesh
49:33has surrendered
49:34before a court
49:35and was
49:36subsequently
49:36arrested.
49:37DMK leader
49:38Muthu Kumar
49:39is a suspect
49:40in an alleged
49:41bribery case
49:42involving approvals
49:43for private
49:43schools.
49:44The TVK has
49:45accused the
49:46previous DMK
49:46government of
49:47looting public
49:48money and
49:48leaving the
49:49state's finances
49:50depleted.
49:51These are
49:52politically
49:52motivated tactics
49:53ahead of the
49:54Tiruchi
49:55bipoles.
49:57With Anagar
49:58Keshav,
49:58Bureau Report,
49:59India Today.
50:03Let's from
50:04there today
50:05end with a
50:05very special
50:06story.
50:06Three men
50:07sentenced to
50:07life imprisonment
50:08in a cow
50:09slaughter case
50:10in Gujarat.
50:10But it is
50:11the court's
50:12reasoning for
50:13sentencing them
50:13that has now
50:14drawn attention.
50:15A Gujarat
50:16court cited
50:17the Vedas
50:17and the
50:18Manusmriti
50:18while sentencing
50:20the three
50:20accused to
50:21life imprisonment
50:22invoking
50:22religious beliefs
50:23about the
50:24cow,
50:24to underline
50:25the severity
50:26of the
50:27crime.
50:27Take a
50:28look.
50:33Three men,
50:34a cow
50:35slaughter case
50:36and a
50:36life sentence.
50:37But it is
50:38not just the
50:39punishment that
50:40has put this
50:41Gujarat court's
50:41verdict in
50:42focus.
50:43It is the
50:44scriptures the
50:45judge cited
50:45while delivering
50:46it.
50:47The case
50:48dates back
50:49to August
50:502024.
50:51Police raided
50:52a location in
50:53Jamila village
50:54seizing 277
50:56kilograms of
50:57beef,
50:58sharp weapons
50:59and a
51:00vehicle.
51:00The three men,
51:02according to
51:02reports,
51:03had bought
51:03old and non-milking
51:05cattle at low
51:06prices and
51:07slaughtered them
51:08for business.
51:09Of the six
51:09accused, one died
51:11during the
51:11proceedings and
51:12two were
51:13acquitted.
51:14The remaining
51:15three, all
51:15Muslims, were
51:16convicted.
51:17The Kalol
51:18court sentenced
51:19each to
51:20rigorous
51:20imprisonment
51:21for life and
51:22imposed a
51:22fine of
51:23three lakh
51:23rupees.
51:24The three
51:25accused were
51:26convicted under
51:26the Gujarat
51:27Animal Preservation
51:28Act, among
51:29other laws.
51:32But the
51:33judgment went
51:34beyond the
51:35legal provisions.
51:36In its
51:36observations, the
51:38court cited
51:38the Vedas and
51:39the Manusmriti
51:40invoking the
51:41religious significance
51:42of cows in
51:43Hinduism.
51:45It referred to
51:46cows as the
51:47mother of the
51:47universe and
51:49noted the
51:49belief that
51:5033 crore
51:51deities reside
51:52in them.
