00:03My advice is always just like, not to focus on anyone telling you you can't do anything or the politics

00:21I'm like very smart and successful and I'm hot but I like don't even know it which makes me even

00:25Women, especially young women, especially young women of color, want to see someone on TV who is not playing a
00:32terrorist or someone in IT
00:34but is someone good who makes good decisions and is a good mother and wife and girlfriend and teacher and
00:40leader.
00:40I am a hot, smart woman with an ass that doesn't quit.
00:43I had to go through the heartbreaking experience of sitting in a room with other much thinner, much more traditionally
00:51attractive young women.
00:54And so I was forced, I was sort of pitted against other women who were auditioning for the role of
00:59Mindy Kaling.
01:00I wear these outfits and stuff and it's like this weird, I live in this, because I'm not skinny but
01:05I'm an actor which is virtually, that never happens in the world of regular sized people.
01:09But I also am like the recipient of like a lot of kind of backhanded compliments about it.
01:15Where people are like, it's so nice that Mindy Kaling doesn't feel she needs to subscribe to the ideals of
01:22beauty that other people do.
01:26And I'm like, I do subscribe.
01:28I am not overweight, I fluctuate between chubby and curvy.
01:32By the way, I like run and workout.
01:35It takes a lot of effort to look like a normal slash chubby woman.
01:38Being called fat, being called not pretty, these are just weapons that men can use against women that we can't
01:43use against them.
01:44I am fairly impervious to when people say those things about me because it's like, well, I was born this
01:50way and I can't really change that.
01:52I was told that they don't put girls who look like me on TV.
01:58I guess they can't say that anymore.
