00:02I'm Christina and I write the site Trois Rouge and I am here in Toronto it's my
00:08first time in Canada so I want to discover Toronto I want to like know the
00:11fashion sense the food what's the art like here what are the people about I'm
00:16really excited to discover the city because I know Toronto is so big I really
00:20want to get a sense of the voice of the city. Art and fashion pours out of every
00:26city street so I met up with Marika of nor black nor white who makes clothes
00:30look like art. Yeah so this is a an old vintage piece from a village in Gujarat
00:36in North India and we kind of just added the chains and then lined it with a
00:40tie-dye silk so you can throw it on top of anything. It's really really gorgeous.
00:46So I want to hear more about your collection nor black nor white. All right
00:50so basically it's me and my old friend of mine that used to always wear our mom's
00:56like old textiles and we'd style them a certain way and so we kind of got close
01:00on that visual kind of language and relationship so that was kind of the
01:04essence in the core of nor black nor white is exploring a space that hasn't
01:09been explored before from a contemporary Indian textile kind of form mostly
01:14focusing on women and people of color. That's reversible it's called the Empress
01:18kimono. Oh it's so cool. So Marika is working on a shoe collab with the local
01:25cobbler and I want to see some of the work they're doing. So Soul Survivor is a
01:29shoe repair shop located in Toronto and what we do here is we repair and make
01:36custom handmade leather goods. It's an all-female run cobbler shop so. All-female?
01:41All-female yeah. That's really interesting so what was the idea behind that concept?
01:45I had a hard time finding someone that would take me on because their first
01:48response was oh you're a girl you're probably not gonna be strong enough for
01:51this job and that was true I wasn't at first but all it takes is just to build
01:56up your stamina and practice practice practice and you get good at something.
02:00So what would you think is like a Toronto style like what's the style? Now I feel
02:05because we're such a diverse city people are kind of owning themselves and feeling
02:10more confident with their stuff so I think it's it's a big mashup. Well thank you so
02:15much for showing me the collection I love everything this is really really
02:19beautiful. Thank you. So it was really awesome meeting her and listening about her designs and
02:24like their collaboration process and I'm really excited to see like what they're
02:28actually gonna make. Local culture is super big in Toronto so before I go to
02:34lunch I'm gonna meet up with Chef Suzanne of Saturday Dinette and we're gonna pick up
02:37some local ingredients for her restaurant. So where are we right now? We are in Kensington Market.
02:43I love this area I love where your restaurant is. Thank you. I love everything about it. Thank you thank
02:48you it's all the beauty and it's just the
02:52interesting bits that make up the city. What are we getting? We're gonna get some ground pork today.
02:56Yeah I'm just needing to update get some more for the recipe of my biscuits and gravy.
03:04What's that? I don't know I just like everything.
03:10How long have you been here? Like how did you, what's the deal? What's the deal? Well this is Saturday
03:17Dinette.
03:18This is my baby. This is my first, first restaurant. I'm with my husband partnering for Ain Joni. How did
03:24you find this place?
03:25We stumbled upon this spot. My husband and I lived in the neighborhood. We were like this is hot. It's
03:30on the corner.
03:31Yeah. But there's a little bit of everything for everybody. I mean I think that's a beautiful thing about why
03:36this city really ticks and it's like the little hot spot right now.
03:40Because it's like a serious, a multicultural episode. Like everybody is here. Like the shops, the restaurants, the cafes, the
03:48bars on the east end particularly.
03:50We're kind of like vibing right now. We're really making a little. Everything's very cool. Yeah. But you're in Toronto.
03:55So welcome.
03:56My hands are washed. Hands are washed? You didn't see me but I did it I swear. Are you sure?
04:00I promise you.
04:00We can't mash it. Whoa. Oh my god. I love popcorn. Right here, right here. Right in the middle all
04:07over. Oh more.
04:09Give it a little. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. That's what we do in Canada. Oh my god. It's
04:20so good. Right. That's a great amount.
04:23I am like the sexy, like the sexy chef I've never was. The sexy chef I've never was. Yeah. Hi.
04:30Hello. Pancakes.
04:31There was a lot of love put into this. A lot of love. A lot of love. A lot of
04:34love. And a little laughing. And focus. It was good. I can work here. You can work here.
04:38You want part time jobs?
04:40Suzanne puts so much love and thought into each dish. I feel like I'm at home.
04:48Second City Toronto is the home of comedians. So I popped by to catch a show.
04:58Do you find inspiration like on the streets of Toronto? Oh my god yes. Like people that make you laugh
05:02that you've been able to get that anywhere else? Oh yes. You know what I mean?
05:05That's where comedy comes from. The best and funniest material is stuff that is true to life. Right. And what's
05:11fantastic about Toronto is there are a lot of different types of people. And on any given day you can
05:17look out and see just the weirdest character or hear a line that you're like, what? What does that mean?
05:24I don't know. I want to explore that. And as comedians you have to be really open to what's around
05:30you. And Toronto's fantastic.
05:31I want to walk around now.
05:37Toronto's definitely not what I expected. There's just like mixtures of so many different cultures and I loved it honestly.
05:43It was really cool.
05:45Toronto has a feeling that really anything is possible. And everything is here waiting to be discovered. From hole in
05:51the walls to massive towers and big views, Toronto's vibrant culture and warm hearted, hilarious citizens made me realize that
05:58I've been missing all these years.
05:59Toronto is almost your part of Toronto.
06:00And I love people. And now you walk around next week on TV.
06:01I am inrael fG loved hymns bay.
06:12Awesome for you too.
