00:00Nice to meet you.
00:01Nice to meet you.
00:02Love your tattoos.
00:03I have a bunch of bad tattoos, but I'm trying to get a little better as I go along.
00:07I am going to show you the Winnie the Pooh ink I got when I was 16.
00:10I have a fairy on my shoulder that makes you feel better.
00:13So I hear you have a new book coming out.
00:15This one?
00:17What was the most surprising part about the whole writing process?
00:20There was a lot that I wanted to say that I found when I was writing about some of the
00:24trauma and, like, my sexual assault.
00:26It was hard kind of connecting with those emotions again.
00:28And then when I did, I kind of found myself going down a rabbit hole a bit.
00:32Did you run into any writer's block while you were writing your book?
00:35I found it hard to stop.
00:36I have so much to say.
00:37I never shut up.
00:38So obviously it was knowing when to, like, pull it back and stop, which I found quite hard.
00:44Being in the public eye means getting lots of opinions, some of them good, some of them
00:49bad.
00:49How do you deal with haters?
00:50The best advice I've given was by Ice-T, and Ice-T told me haters hate up.
00:54The people that are hating hate themselves.
00:56They're projecting.
00:57I try not to take it personally, but if they're just being rude, then I block them or I let
01:03my fans roast them.
01:04What, for you, is the craziest part about being a mother?
01:08Bodily fluids that get on you.
01:11Like, so much poop and so much pee and so much vomit and so much drool and, like, mashed
01:18up food.
01:19Is there one beauty product that you keep with you at all times?
01:21Probably lipstick.
01:22I have probably, like, 20 lipsticks in my bag.
01:26Can you give me, like, one of your best pieces of beauty advice?
01:29I feel like I'm so boring, but I love skincare.
01:33Making sure you take your makeup off at night, making sure you wash your brushes regularly,
01:37like, once a week.
01:39Tell me about your obsession with Disney.
01:41I love Disneyland because no one judges you because everyone's just a big nerd.
01:47Or they're, like, experiencing it for the first time and it's just, like, really fun.
01:51Is there one thing that you do when you first wake up?
01:53I wash my face, then I use an exfoliating, it's like a rice enzyme powder, then I use what
01:59they call their essence water, so it's basically a toner, but you put it in your hand and you
02:02press it into your face.
02:03Then I use moisturizer, then I use sunscreen, and then if I put on makeup, then I put makeup
02:08on.
02:08How does fashion and beauty make you feel empowered?
02:12I don't know if it does because, unfortunately, you're seeing kind of the same bodies and the
02:18same kind of people and, like, it can feel like maybe I'm not doing enough because there's
02:23not enough diversity out there.
02:24What are you most excited about for this fall?
02:28I love, like, the holidays at Disneyland and feel like it's wintertime, even though they
02:33have fake snow falling and you're, like, melting.
02:35What's your favorite drink?
02:36I'm asking my husband, what's your favorite drink?
02:39I love a lemon drop, he's right.
02:41What was your first job?
02:42I worked at a day spa called Southern Styles.
02:46It was in a strip mall in Laurel, Mississippi.
02:48I was a terrible employee.
02:50I was supposed to wipe down the tanning beds when people were done.
02:53Sometimes I didn't.
02:54If there was something on I was watching, I would just be like, ugh.
02:57You've always paved your own way.
02:58What advice do you have for younger girls who might want to follow in your footsteps?
03:02I think it's important to have people around you that understand where you're going and
03:05support you, and if you're not getting it, maybe they can't be in your life, really.
03:09That's so real.
03:10What was the last thing you Googled?
03:12Aw, it's, this is so narcissistic.
03:14I Googled getting images of myself from the Empire State Building, but look how cute that
03:20photo is with my taxi, my Kate Spade taxi bag.
03:23What was it like to walk the runway in London Fashion Week for Simply Be?
03:28It was really nice to be surrounded by women of all ages and women of color.
03:34You're a mom, you're a model, you're a body image activist.
03:38How do you just recharge, like, from all of that?
03:41It's quite hard.
03:42I have a hard time relaxing.
03:44It's part of the reason why my husband travels with me.
03:46We work together, but it's because he tends to be the only person that can get me to eat
03:51when I'm, like, so stressed.
03:53What's your favorite scent that's not a perfume or a fragrance?
03:56Disneyland churros.
03:57That is true.
03:58That is true.
03:59That's a good smell.
04:00Disneyland churros, yeah.
04:02What advice would you give to someone who is struggling to kind of be comfortable in
04:06their own skin?
04:07Loving your body is a journey, not a destination.
04:09Just because I wrote a book about confidence doesn't mean that I feel good about myself
04:1324-7 and allowing myself to feel bad.
04:17What would be one thing that people would be surprised to know about you?
04:21I can be a bit shy.
04:22Like, people forget that I'm just a normal person.
04:24What's your favorite movie of all time?
04:26Probably Drop Dead Gorgeous or BAPS.
04:30Yeah.
04:30You're a woman after my own heart.
04:32I love BAPS.
04:33What's the one success that you're, like, truly proud of?
04:36Probably my book.
04:37I started it when my baby was just a few months old and it was really tough, but the overall
04:43message that I'm hoping people get from it is that it helps them and empowers them and
04:47makes them feel a little less alone in the world and that anything's possible.
