00:00I'm net neutrality so it's sounds complicated and technical but it's
00:04actually pretty simple idea anybody who's ever used the internet intuitively
00:08understands net neutrality so when you sit down in front of your computer and
00:12you go online to surf the web every website that you look at whether it's a
00:16C-SPAN website or the CNN website or the Fox News website or your neighbor's blog
00:22all the websites load up the same you can access all of them just the same
00:26there's equality on the internet it's the great equalizer of network
00:31communications everybody gets treated alike by the network owners why do you
00:36when members of your organizations feel that it's threatened well for the whole
00:42history of the internet we've had this neutrality principle written into the
00:46law the engineers at the Department of Defense who built the network which we
00:50now know as the internet the university researchers who developed it and the
00:54companies who ran it once it was privatized all abided by this neutrality
00:59law in August of 2005 the neutrality principle was removed from the internet
01:06as a matter of law for the first time in the history of the internet the CEOs of
01:11the major telephone and cable companies go to Wall Street that fall and they tell
01:15Wall Street you know open up your pocketbooks boys we're about to take over
01:20the internet in a whole different way we're going to change the way the internet
01:23works we're going to create tears on the internet where we've got super fast
01:27websites medium fast websites and everybody else is going to be on the slow
01:30lane and we're going to charge a fortune to be in that super tier and we're going
01:34to make a pile of money so get ready the internet's going to change because the
01:37Congress took such an interest in the issue and because the public made such a
01:41fuss about the issue the operators who could technically violate neutrality
01:45without breaking the law are wary to do so because they see the possible
01:50backlash that would visit upon them if they did
01:53the top two make sure they'll be able to address those of our horizons that
01:53has hundreds of an interesting possibility that they form a deal they can
01:53allow for public making sure they Bradley Ma u s
