00:00I'm Lucy Fink and this is 5 Days of DIY Makeup.
00:04Hey guys!
00:05What's up?
00:05Welcome back to another Try Living with Lucy 5 Day Challenge.
00:09Over the past few months, I've received a ton of DMs on Instagram asking me to try 5 Days of
00:14DIY Makeup.
00:15And to be completely honest, I avoided this topic for a really long time because I don't really know much
00:20about regular makeup, let alone DIY makeup.
00:24But then I took a moment and I thought about it and I was like, Lucy, that is exactly what
00:28this series is about.
00:30I'm not an expert on any of the topics that I dive into in Try Living with Lucy.
00:34I just do my research and I learn about it and then I try something and that's the point.
00:38So, I took to the internet and I did a ton of research and I discovered so many different DIY
00:45makeup techniques that I'm going to try out this week and share it with you.
00:48I also decided to turn this into a challenge whereby I'm only allowed to wear the DIY makeup that I
00:54make this week.
00:55So, as you can see, I'm starting out on Monday fresh-faced.
01:01Day 1.
01:02Ooh, sorry.
01:04I started out today with a product that I was most excited to make.
01:07A lip kit.
01:08For this recipe, I followed YouTuber Yvette Polanka's tutorial for a DIY Kylie Jenner lip kit.
01:15Ah!
01:16I mixed a matte liquid foundation with a matte eyeshadow and then stirred them together.
01:21However much foundation you pour in is how much lipstick you're going to get.
01:24And then the eyeshadow is used to color it.
01:26On my wrist, I swatched my favorite Kylie lip kit color and then I swatched my version next to it
01:31to see how the colors were different.
01:33And then based on that, I knew what other tones I needed to add in to achieve my desired color.
01:38Once I had my color, I added some olive oil in to smooth it out and then I spooned it
01:42into an empty pot.
01:44I put it on and I really, really liked the final texture and color.
01:48Truthfully, it was very similar to my Kylie lip kit, but it just didn't get that dry, crumbly feeling that
01:54the lip kit sometimes gets.
01:55Next, I found a recipe for a DIY peppermint lip balm on Refinery29.com that calls for 3 quarter cups
02:02of coconut oil,
02:031 quarter cup of melted cocoa butter, and 1 quarter cup of beeswax.
02:07I heated that together in a small saucepan and then I poured peppermint oil into a jar and swirled it
02:12around a bit before adding the mixture to it.
02:14I let it harden in the fridge for 20 minutes before trying it on and then I tested it out
02:19and it is officially my new favorite lip product.
02:27I was looking at my face in the mirror this morning and I noticed that my skin was looking a
02:31little blotchy,
02:32so I decided that what I needed most today was some sort of foundation and cover-up situation to smooth
02:38everything over.
02:39Very necessary. I think it looks pretty good now.
02:42I really liked how I made yesterday's lip balm entirely from scratch using non-makeup ingredients,
02:47so I wanted to replicate that and make a very light foundation powder entirely from scratch.
02:52Once again, there were no exact measurements for this, I was just mixing different ingredients together to get the right
02:57color tone.
02:58So I added cocoa powder for a bronzing glow, beet powder for a blush look, and turmeric powder which can
03:05reduce acne causing bacteria.
03:07The powder went on very smoothly and interestingly enough, once all of the ingredients were mixed together,
03:12they each lost their individual smells, so the mixture together was entirely odorless.
03:18Gave me a little natural color. I like it.
03:21Next, I followed Yvette Polanka's YouTube tutorial for a DIY EOS concealer.
03:26I removed the original EOS lip balm from the case, popped out the grate, and then cleaned the EOS container
03:32and set it aside.
03:33Then I mixed together beeswax, coconut oil, and liquid foundation and popped it into the microwave at 30 second intervals.
03:39Once it was all mixed, I put the grate back into the bottom of the EOS container, poured the mixture
03:45in, capped it, and then popped it in the freezer.
03:47I kept it in there for 30 minutes, and pro tip, store it upside down if you want to achieve
03:52that dome shape on the top,
03:54and not to toot my own DIY EOS concealer horn, but when I opened it about 30 minutes later, it
04:01was perfect.
04:02Perfect!
04:02It went on a little sheer, so next time I'd probably use more concealer and less coconut oil.
04:08It does not stay in formation unless you keep it chilled, so keep this in the fridge.
04:15So today I decided I wanted to dive in to one aspect of my daily makeup routine that is usually
04:22so essential for me.
04:24Eyebrows.
04:24I think I said it in my 5 days of no makeup video, but if I had to pick one
04:28type of makeup to wear every day, just one, it would be brow powder.
04:33I started out super easy today, and I just wanted to see what it would look like if I used
04:38nothing but raw organic cocoa powder as brow powder.
04:42I have never thought to do this before, and I don't know why, because I'm a huge chocolate person. Huge.
04:47But it was not a bad technique. Plus, it's all natural, and who really uses all of the cocoa powder
04:53in their pantry before it expires anyway? Am I right?
04:56Then I took it up one level, and I made myself a DIY brow gel.
05:00Sometimes I actually do really like that full-brow, bushy, messy look, but other times I just want them to
05:06sit still and calm down.
05:09Calm down.
05:10I got this idea from the YouTube channel Moda Mob, and I just mixed hair gel with brown powder.
05:15And it's so simple. You just mix them together until they're blended, twirl a wand into the gel, and apply
05:20it.
05:21Because it's tinted, it also helps fill in the gaps, and this really worked just as well as any store
05:26-bought brow gel.
05:27I would highly recommend it.
05:29It's quite a nice tint.
05:35Notice anything different about me?
05:37Maybe about my eyes?
05:39I got eye makeup on!
05:41It's been three days of wearing only DIY makeup, and even though everything I've made this week has brought me
05:48a little bit closer to having on a full face of makeup,
05:51I haven't worn anything yet that's really dramatically changed my look.
05:55Until today.
05:57So I wanted to make products today that would really add that final pop.
06:01Eyeliner and mascara.
06:03I started out with this blue eyeliner using a tutorial that I found on Carly Bible's YouTube channel.
06:08You mix eyeshadow in whatever color you want your liner to be with MAC Fix Plus.
06:13The Fix Plus helps turn the eyeshadow into a liquid form and gets it all smooth so that you can
06:18apply it with a really skinny brush.
06:20I'm usually a black eyeliner girl, but I'm loving the blue, and I'm thinking this is my new thing.
06:24Next, making the mascara was the most difficult and involved process of the entire week so far.
06:31This idea came from a YouTube channel called Alternative Channel.
06:35I started by placing slivered almonds on a pan and then heating them up until they became completely burned and
06:41black.
06:41Once the almonds were charred, I put them into a baggie and I crushed them using the back of a
06:45water bottle.
06:46I mixed them with one teaspoon of Vaseline and then the original recipe wanted me to heat this mixture on
06:52a stove top with a double boiler,
06:54but I decided to just throw it in the microwave.
06:56Once the mixture had better consistency from the heat, I spooned it into a syringe and then I pumped it
07:01into an old, cleaned out mascara container.
07:04TBH, this mixture stunk.
07:07You would have thought that something died.
07:09So I don't know how I felt about this product because of how it smelled, but it did work nicely.
07:14I mean, it looks like regular mascara.
07:15And it's pretty cool.
07:16It was made out of burnt almonds.
07:18I literally have a smokey eye.
07:23For my final day, I felt that I had made enough DIY makeup products for an everyday natural look,
07:28so I decided instead of making another makeup product, I'd make my own DIY makeup remover.
07:34I found this recipe on Refinery29.
07:36Have you heard of it?
07:37Place 12 cotton squares into a sterile mason jar and then set it aside.
07:41Mixed 1 8th cup of melted coconut oil with 1 8th cup of apricot kernel oil, 3 drops of lavender,
07:48and 2 drops of vitamin E oil.
07:51I poured the mixture over the cotton pads and then poked around a little to make sure they absorbed as
07:55much liquid as possible.
07:57Refrigerated the pads for at least 1 hour and then tested it out.
08:00The mixture smelled really good and it worked really well, but it was definitely a little bit oily, so it
08:05requires you to wash your face with soap and water after using it.
08:09What?
08:11And after I trial tested the makeup remover pads, I actually put all of my DIY makeup back on because
08:18it's Friday night and I'm going out in DIY makeup.
08:20Can't stop me.
08:21I officially made it through the entire week wearing only DIY makeup products.
08:26I feel like I gave my skin a much needed rest from the typical makeup products that I use everyday,
08:31which are a lot heavier and are not necessarily all natural.
08:34Bye!
