00:00Okay, this is a weird question.
00:01Someone has said to me once that they were like,
00:03maybe you shouldn't get your hair bleached if you're on your period.
00:06Is that true?
00:07I've never heard that.
00:08I mean...
00:09I was like, really?
00:11Hey guys, it's Mi-Anne and this is Beauty With Me.
00:13Today is a very, very exciting episode of Beauty With Me
00:17because last week I did something kind of crazy.
00:21I dyed my hair pink!
00:23You might be wondering why I'm wearing a hat right now.
00:25It's because I filmed the entire process from start to finish,
00:30but I don't want to show you what it looks like yet
00:31because I have a final reveal at the end.
00:34So I am here at Spoken Wheel in New York with Madison,
00:37my lovely colorist who's going to be helping transform me from this to pink.
00:43I have many questions for you before we start though.
00:45Alright, what do you want to know?
00:46So what should people do before they're going in for a big bleaching process like I am?
00:52I don't want you or any type of client to wash their hair several days before.
00:57We want to let the oils kind of build up on the hair.
01:00It kind of gives a nice little coating on the scalp.
01:03And also if you wash your hair the night before or the day of,
01:06you can cause some type of irritation and then when you're putting a chemical on it,
01:09it can cause stronger burning sensation than what you would normally have.
01:13I haven't washed my hair in like five days, so it's really stringy right now.
01:17What should people with very dark hair like mine keep in mind when they're bleaching?
01:21A lot of people being super dark naturally, it's going to be a lot harder for them to reach this
01:27platinum level.
01:28Alright, I think I know everything I need to know.
01:31I think that all I need to do now is start bleaching.
01:34After I chatted with Madison a little bit, she started mixing my bleach.
01:38So she used a mixture of hydrogen peroxide.
01:40They applied the solution to my mid-lengths and ends.
01:44Let that sit for about 30 minutes before they apply the same solution to my roots.
01:49I thought that the bleach would really hurt or that it would burn,
01:53but Madison told me that if you're getting your hair bleached and it really hurts or it really burns,
01:58you should tell your colorist right away because it should not do that.
02:01And she was totally right.
02:02In terms of the sensation, it was more of a prickly, almost itchy sensation,
02:06but it definitely wasn't painful.
02:09Draco Malfoy vibes?
02:11That's my new aesthetic.
02:16But my hair was definitely on the brassy blonde side.
02:20So when they washed it out, which, by the way, felt amazing.
02:25When you have bleach in your hair for like an hour and it's like kind of itchy, kind of uncomfortable,
02:29the cold water, it just, it felt so good.
02:32They put a gloss in my hair to neutralize the brassy tones and then followed up with a pink gloss
02:38that would serve as the base for my pinky rose quartz-y hair color.
02:43And we actually mixed the color together.
02:45I can add a little bit more lilac and if we're like, hmm, maybe a little pink, I can just
02:49add more pink to it.
02:50Okay, let's try that.
02:51And then Madison and Becca applied the whole solution to my head and then we chilled for 20 minutes while
02:58it all absorbed.
03:00Madison washed it out to reveal my brand new color.
03:05Ta-da!
03:07This is my hair and I'm so pleased with it.
03:10It is the exact color that I imagined in my head.
03:13I've had this hair for about a week now and I'm still getting a little bit used to it.
03:17I look in the mirror sometimes and I forget that I dyed my hair and I'm just like pleasantly surprised
03:22again.
03:22And I'm like, oh, there's pink hair now.
03:25There's a lot of work that goes into the upkeep and the maintenance.
03:28The first thing Madison warned me was that the more I wash my hair, the faster my color will fade.
03:33So in the past, I would wash my hair every other day if not every single day.
03:38Now that my hair is bleached, my hair is drier, so it's been absorbing a lot of the oils on
03:44my scalp.
03:45I've been using the Whey Repair Shampoo.
03:48My hair feels so soft.
03:51I also use the Repair Conditioner from the same brand.
03:54So this fella from VIRB is a non-aerosol dry shampoo.
03:58You squeeze the powder into your roots and then you massage it in and it absorbs so much oil.
04:05It also gives your hair a little bit of a gritty texture that's really nice for styling.
04:10But in terms of maintaining the color, apart from fewer washes,
04:15Madison said that I can use a product like Uberless's Bond Sustainer that you can mix together,
04:21put on your hair, and it kind of like almost re-dyes your hair.
04:25So after a few washes when my hair is sufficiently faded, sad, I'm going to do this.
04:31Getting hair like this is not cheap.
04:34It's also not fast.
04:37It costs around $300 to $500 to get your hair double processed and colored like this in New York City.
04:43And then touch-ups can be another couple hundred.
04:46Technically, according to Madison, you're supposed to get your hair touched up every four to six weeks.
04:51That's like when my root regrowth has come out.
04:53If you wait longer than six weeks, it becomes much harder for your colorist to dye your hair back evenly.
05:00So that is all. That was a lot.
05:03I hope you guys learned something from this.
05:04Now that I've gone lighter, I'm so excited to experiment with more colors.
05:09Let's take a look at more colors.
05:10Let's see.
05:10Let's see.
05:10Let's get to the cima.
05:10Let's do it.
05:10Let's take a look at the top.
05:11Let's start.
05:11Let's go.
05:11You
