Her 1-bedroom is full of plants, art, and life, but Megan's favorite thing about it is finding her boyfriend across the street.

00:00Hey guys, I'm Megan. Welcome to my sweet digs.
00:04What's coming fun?
00:06Every day I come in, I like put my jacket away in the closet
00:09and I sit down in what I call my Mr. Rogers chair
00:13and I sort of take off my shoes.
00:15It's just sort of what I do.
00:17I live in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn
00:19in a traditional one-bedroom apartment, railroad style.
00:23I pay $2,000 a month, which is a lot,
00:26and it's about 600 square feet.
00:32Here you have my kitchen.
00:33The sunlight in the kitchen is probably one of my favorite things about this apartment.
00:38I grew up in Florida and I don't really, like, miss the beach or anything,
00:42but I really do miss just being around plants.
00:46I like to joke that being a plant lady is the new cat lady.
00:49So I actually do a lot of cooking.
00:52I also like to keep some stuff that I can make some easy meals.
00:56I am not like one of those New Yorkers that just order Seamless all the time.
01:01This is my little nook that I eat at.
01:03I have people over.
01:04We sit here.
01:05Above it is where I keep, like, all my little tchotchkes and things I've gathered from travels.
01:11The person that owned the building originally owned a 10-ceiling company,
01:16so each room in the building has a different 10-ceiling pattern, which is really cool.
01:21So now I'll show you guys my bathroom.
01:25Small but mighty.
01:26My least favorite part about the apartment is probably my shower.
01:31It's just really small and tight.
01:34It's, like, kind of like the tube you would roll up to at a teller's window.
01:37I picked this sort of dark teal color.
01:40It's somewhere in between hunter green and navy blue
01:42because I like the way it looks with black and white tile.
01:46Welcome to Sacred Digs.
01:47All about witchcraft and the modern world.
01:50I'm just kidding.
01:51So I like to burn different scents.
01:54Palo Santo is one of my favorite smells.
01:57Growing up, I lived in eight different houses all in the same city.
02:02My parents, on the side, they build and sort of design houses.
02:07It's definitely affected my home sensibility in the way that home is really important.
02:13It's a part of me.
02:15It is something that reflects me.
02:17It's something that evolves over time.
02:19This is my living space.
02:21This is one of my favorite faces.
02:22It's from the Memphis Group Collective, Sud Sauce.
02:26I just like it.
02:27I don't know why.
02:29This is my couch.
02:31It was $650.
02:33I got it second hand.
02:35I sort of bought it with the intent to reupholster it.
02:39This is my art nook where I keep all my art supplies, books.
02:42I do my painting.
02:43I started painting patterns as a way to relax and zone out, listen to music.
02:47It has since just become something I do on the side.
02:51So I paint everything from wrapping paper to textile designs for clothing.
02:57Art's a huge part of my life.
02:59It's sort of influenced my home style in the way that like just having sort of a space to be
03:03able to do it and to constantly create.
03:05But also to sort of like honor this that it will always be in motion and changing and nothing will
03:11ever be perfect.
03:12So sort of embracing like a wabi-sabi mentality of liking imperfections and sort of embracing them.
03:20Lastly, I'll walk you into my bedroom.
03:22I was going for I think just like a very chill and serene vibe.
03:26I really try not to bring electronics into the bed, specifically my laptop.
03:31If I have to work late or from home, I'll work from the kitchen.
03:35I'm super neat.
03:36I've been that way my whole life.
03:38It frees up brain space basically for me to be more productive and more creative and just the way I
03:44like to live.
03:44Walk you through my closet, robes, more robes, more hair ribbons.
03:50I think you can never have too many of those.
03:52I like to keep my closet sort of meticulously organized.
03:57Sweaters, pants.
03:58I like to fold like a store.
03:59I love Curl Gardens because it has a great sense of community.
04:02It's the kind of place that you can go in and get to know the people that work at the
04:06coffee shops.
04:07Actually, the day I moved in, I was getting groceries downstairs at the sandwich shop that I live above.
04:13And I got to know the owner and a couple months later, we started dating and he's my boyfriend.
04:19So that's probably my favorite part about this apartment was meeting someone really special.
04:25And it just feels like a special little New York story as well.
04:28I think it's hard to describe like my home style.
04:31I think of it in like different regions.
04:33So like maybe my kitchen's like your English grandmother and my bedroom's sort of like your hippie sister that lives
04:42in LA.
04:43And then my living room is sort of like your really eccentric New York aunt.
04:50Living alone in New York was definitely a goal for me.
04:53I don't have like a lot of roommate horror stories from my New York experience, thankfully.
04:57But I think there's just like an element of living alone that is more serene and calm.
05:03I started looking for one bedroom apartments about two years before I moved just to sort of get a sense
05:09of market pricing.
05:10And then I adjusted my lifestyle then so I knew I would be able to do it.
05:17I also wanted to have like pocket of adulthood that was like really special when it was just me.
05:23It's been wonderful.
05:24I think living alone builds character.
05:26It's given me like a really big sense of pride.
05:29So yeah, I love living alone.
