00:02my mom made an appointment for us to get photographs taken portraits I was maybe six
00:09years old and I don't know why but I wasn't wearing my prosthetic legs I remember picking
00:15out a blue dress with white polka dots and it was my favorite and I thought it made me look
00:23really
00:23pretty and they sat me on this little platform I guess and I remember arranging my dress in such a
00:34way that it covered my legs perfectly because I wanted it to look like I was sitting on my feet
00:42like they were folded underneath me and I was sitting on them and that's how I took that picture
00:49and so even at the age of six I knew how vastly different I was and all I wanted
00:58was to look like everybody else to be like everybody else and I think I still have moments of
01:06wishing that things could be easier I don't feel like I still wish to look like everyone else or
01:13be like everybody else and I wish I could go back in time and tell that little girl
01:20that those things that make you different those are the things that make you extraordinary don't hide
01:27or shy away from the stuff that makes you different because it's the stuff that makes us the same that
01:34makes life boring it's really leaning into those differences is where you find the good stuff I think
01:41we're starting to get it right more and more it's in inches it's not in miles but we are starting
01:49to
01:49see people wanting to tell these stories striving to reflect the world around us and for girls and women
01:57to look at something and say there are other people out there like me there are other people who have
02:04my experience there are other people who understand me and I'm not alone in this world
02:09I'm not alone in this world
