00:00Hey! You guys are here early. Come on in.
00:06Hey guys, what's up? My name's Julia. I'm a filmmaker here in Brooklyn, New York.
00:10I'm normally on the other side of the camera, so this is weird, but welcome to my house.
00:14I live on the border of Bushwick and Ridgewood.
00:17It's about 45 minutes outside of the city. I love my neighborhood.
00:21It's filled with a lot of awesome neighbors who have lived on the block for over 40, 50 years.
00:27There's a lot of life here and it's really great.
00:29I live in a four-bedroom apartment.
00:31It actually used to be two separate units that were combined into one, so we have so much space.
00:36My rent for the entire apartment is $4,000. I pay $1,000 for my room each month.
00:42I feel like that's a pretty inexpensive price overall.
00:45We kind of did the compromise of living farther from the city so we could get more space at a
00:50more inexpensive price.
01:01So this is our living room. I would say that all of the furniture is really eclectic.
01:05We thrifted almost all of it. The architecture of the building is pre-war mixed with new appliances, so I
01:11think that we try to mirror that in our home style.
01:14I live with a bunch of artists and we keep it colorful.
01:16My most exciting home find was actually my living room table.
01:20I found it in Baltimore when I was in art school for $85 and I had absolutely no money then,
01:27but I just, I couldn't pass it up.
01:30So I ate ramen for a week so I could get it and I've lived with it in five different
01:34apartments.
01:34When I was in art school in Baltimore, I was studying painting and then halfway through I realized that I
01:40wanted my paintings to move.
01:42So I switched to video and completely changed industries and I really missed that part about my life so much.
01:48I don't really paint anymore, so it's really nice living with three other painters and just being able to tap
01:54into that past life via them.
01:56This mermaid is one of my favorite pieces in this room.
01:59I think it's because my mom loves mermaids and it makes me think of her.
02:06Let's go over to one out of two kitchens.
02:09I love this space.
02:11I'm a huge foodie and having the counter space to cook is awesome.
02:16For Memorial Day, we had our first barbecue in the apartment and it was so much fun.
02:21I love how food brings me and my friends all together.
02:23This is my first New York apartment with a dishwasher.
02:27Oh my God.
02:28It is such a game changer.
02:31The thing that makes me feel the most adult is my kitchenware,
02:33especially the pots and pans.
02:35I'm Italian, so pasta sundae was something that I grew up with.
02:38And this pot is actually awesome because I don't even have to take the lid off to strain the water.
02:44Highly recommend.
02:45It's a part of this ceramic coated set that I got from Target.
02:48I love entertaining guests and I love cooking, so it feels really nice just to have a full set.
02:53I can just like look super professional and I feel like I have a real home now.
02:57My roommate actually found the apartment.
02:59I was out of town the entire month and she sent me pictures and said,
03:03I'm signing the lease with or without you.
03:05Do you like this apartment?
03:06I need to know today.
03:07And just based off of the pictures alone, I knew that it was such a unique space that I agreed
03:12to it.
03:12And I'm so glad that we did.
03:17This is my bathroom.
03:18As you can see, it's a little bit small, but it does the job.
03:22I love the tile walls.
03:24One of my biggest pet peeves is when my roommate leaves the shower curtain open after she showers.
03:29It just looks so much tidier when the shower curtain is closed.
03:32I also really love these towels because they have this loop so I can hook them up on the wall
03:39and it just keeps everything organized.
03:41In a shared space, it's all about organization.
03:46This is my washer dryer.
03:48We actually have two of them, one on each floor.
03:51It changed my life.
03:55This is our second kitchen.
03:57It's not fully functional because we don't have an oven.
04:00It's more just our party studio kitchen.
04:04But we do have a second fridge, which is super clutch.
04:08This is my computer desk.
04:10The computer was definitely a huge splurge, but I really needed a good editing workstation.
04:16And I like the way it's set up, so it motivates me to sit here and be here.
04:20Organization is really important to me.
04:22So I have all my wires right here.
04:24I have this clear container that I keep all my hard drives in.
04:28I actually named each hard drive after a Greek god or goddess, so that's kind of funny.
04:34This is all my roommate's studio space.
04:37Like I said, I don't paint anymore, which is kind of sad, but it's nice being around their paintings.
04:41It brings so much life into the apartment.
04:47All right, come on into my bedroom.
04:50My style is all about just finding things and trying to make it work.
04:54I get a lot of things from friends, like this plant was from my friend Greg.
04:59I love how much space I have, but it was really awkward trying to configure everything.
05:03So I had to turn my bed sideways.
05:05But it's actually awesome for watching TV and stuff, especially if I have a friend over or something.
05:12This is my reading nook.
05:14I collect vintage magazines, and it's just really fun to come through and look at them.
05:19Sitting in this spot makes me feel like I'm not even in New York, which is kind of cool.
05:25Maybe it's also because I'm so far from the city.
05:27My most sentimental piece in my apartment is probably the picture of my grandparents.
05:32They're sitting outside of their first apartment, and they just look really, really cute, and they're young, and I love
05:39it.
05:39So this is my closet.
05:41The ironic thing about all this color is that I usually have to wear black for my job, but I
05:47love wearing colorful clothes in my free time.
05:50I collect a bunch of accessories, especially scarves, so this mesh organizer is really perfect so I can kind of
05:57see what's there.
05:59I also love this organizer.
06:02It's perfect.
06:03It's so versatile.
06:04Plus, I get to put all my cool chachis and stuff on it.
06:07It fits perfectly within my small space.
06:11And then the last thing, and also one of my favorite things about my room, is these smart lights, and
06:18I can just control the lighting from my phone.
06:20Savannah Sunset.
06:22This one's my favorite.
06:29Oh, you guys found me.
06:31This is our backyard.
06:33My favorite part about the apartment is definitely the backyard.
06:36I have direct access through my bedroom.
06:39During the summer, it's just so nice to go out there and garden.
06:42I love coming out here.
06:43I have basil, mint, rosemary, chives.
06:47I cook with it all the time.
06:49I would say that an aspect of my life that is really reflected in my home is that I'm an
06:53artist at heart and I just love looking at cool things.
06:56My roommates and I are really cognizant of the energy within our apartment, so every couple months we try to
07:02arrange the furniture just to keep it fresh.
07:04That's a wrap on My Sweet Digs.
07:06I was a little bit nervous.
07:06My house is a beautiful place.
07:06I'm a littleiec.
07:06I want to walk out, and I want to walk out.
07:07What you got to walk out with all of my closets, myそう.
07:07I want to walk out.
07:07There's a beautiful place to aller.
