Why is body hair everywhere? Do you let it bother you?
Transcript
00:00That mustache, I wish that mustache would leave forever.
00:03Oh my gosh, I wish I could get rid of this nasty arm hair.
00:07Like, it's, like I can't.
00:09And I wish I could get rid of the hair on my toes,
00:12that's super nasty and gross, and the hair on my legs,
00:14because I wouldn't have to shave anymore.
00:16I never cared about my body hair at all.
00:18I think I stopped, like, caring about, like, taking care of down there,
00:22because, like, it was itchy when I grew back.
00:25I don't be caring.
00:26Like, today I have on a dress, these calves aren't shaved.
00:29It's fine with me.
00:30Like, you know, like, when your legs rub together,
00:32when you're, like, in bed or something?
00:33I don't like that feeling.
00:34Shave this, shave that, everything shaved, wax, wax, wax, wax.
00:38I'm good.
00:39Every now and then I get a little goat chin hair or something,
00:41but I just be plucking that out, and it's not a huge deal.
00:44My body hair has been an insecurity for me.
00:47I think it's one of my biggest ones,
00:48because I have incredibly hairy eyebrows, I have a hairy face,
00:52I have hairy arms, I have, like, hairy knuckles.
00:54Like, I'm, it doesn't feel feminine to me.
00:57Yes, I do think that there is an idea, a notion that,
01:04that it isn't cute or sexy or beautiful for women to be hairy.
01:12I think shaving or waxing could easily be a defense mechanism
01:16for some girls who just grow hair a little faster than others.
01:20Just, like, talking to my friends, they stress so much about their body hair,
01:24and, like, even if it's, like, a little bit, like, it has to be off.
01:27Like, it's a problem if their body hair is showing at any amount.
01:31They just want women in general to be bare. Bare and bald.
01:34But I also, like, just don't give a . If it's long, it is what it is.
01:39Like, I've never really had any complaints.
01:42You know, you don't see people on TV and magazines with body hair.
01:47So I think even at a young age, when we go through puberty, we're handed a razor.
01:51Like, we're kind of conditioned to remove the body hair.
01:53My mom, like, always told me, like, everything on your body is there for a purpose.
01:59That hair's purpose is to, like, block bacteria from getting in there.
02:04Body hair down there, like, plays a role in just, like, overall health.
02:07I know that there are some people out in the world, there's some women, there's some men,
02:13some non-binary folks who do not do anything to the body.
02:16I am not that brave. I don't like hair in certain places.
02:21Oh, my God, I groom my body hair. I groom, like, the hell out of my body hair.
02:24I don't have, I barely have any.
02:26I have really sensitive skin. I always have.
02:30And to be honest, that could have, like, been a reason why I, like, just let the hair do its
02:36thing.
02:36I do groom about 80% of my body.
02:41I don't think I've shaved my legs in about a year.
02:45I remember I tried Nair once when I was younger.
02:48Oh, my God, like, like, I tried to do, like, the bikini area.
02:51You know, like, the little strips that would hang out of the bikini.
02:54Called myself doing that.
02:56Whole skin was burnt up red.
02:59Mmm.
03:00And it stinks. Nair stinks. Oof.
03:03I shave maybe twice a month.
03:08So I just started waxing actually about a month ago.
03:10And honestly, it was a life-changing experience.
03:12And I will never go back to anything else.
03:15Well, waxing, obviously, I like because it's like the hair is just gone.
03:17But it's just time-consuming and painful to do all of that.
03:20It's not, oh, my God, yay, let's wax. Perfect. No, you feel it.
03:24I get my vagina waxed every five to six weeks.
03:29I do wax my legs. Right now I look like Monique.
03:32I do not wax. Not because I don't like wax. I just, um, it's expensive.
03:38I feel like I have to book an appointment when I could just, like, go to the bodega and get
03:42some razors and take care of that joint myself.
03:45I do want to look into laser hair removal, though.
03:48But I think I'm going to have a, it's like because I'm dark skinned, I also need, like, a laser
03:53to, like, pick up the hair.
03:55That is, like, a research process that I'm looking into. I'm not there yet.
03:58But I'm interested.
03:59I definitely am happy to see that there are other women out there who are embracing their body hair,
04:03who are growing it and wearing it and sporting it however they feel most comfortable.
04:07But just me personally, society got me brainwashed on removing it all.
