00:01I grew up in a neighborhood where there was like a large amount of white kids at
00:05my school and so I was always the pretty black girl like you're pretty for a
00:09black girl you have nice hair for a black girl and I hated that comment that
00:13would always follow any compliment I received I felt like I could never just
00:17be pretty not only was I being objectified by men but I was being
00:21fetishized by my friends and I didn't appreciate it so when I chose to shave my
00:25head I was really insecure because I was kind of just picking myself apart and
00:29dissecting who I was and why I had certain ideologies there was a period
00:33of time where it was fresh and I was kind of really confident because it felt
00:39like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders there wasn't demand for me to
00:43look a certain way or to do certain things it was more just kind of lift this
00:47burden off of my shoulders reprioritize and I didn't do it and say like hey I'm
00:51a feminist I did this and say hey I'm an independent person and I don't need
00:54anyone to tell me that I look good because I know that I'm a decent person
00:59on the inside if I believe in something I'm gonna do everything in my power to
01:03kind of set myself in that way of thinking I'm gonna address gender
01:07inequality and racial inequality because those are things that affect me in my
01:11daily life this is the way I look and I can't not look this way because I want to
01:16fit in that's fine with me I appreciate who I am and where I come from and so I
01:21have nothing to hide from and that's kind of why being bald or like having a
01:27shaved head is so important to me
