00:00Hi, I'm Amber. Welcome to my sweet digs. Come on in.
00:03I live in a 100-year-old Art Deco building in the Miracle Mile District of Los Angeles.
00:09I pay $17.50, which is a little high for my taste, but it's actually pretty relative for the area.
00:15What I really love about the neighborhood is that you can pretty much walk anywhere,
00:19and I'm 10 minutes from Beverly Hills, 10 minutes from Hollywood, and about 15 minutes from downtown,
00:25which is pretty great for me.
00:26This is my vanity room. I remember growing up, my grandmother and my mom always had a really nice little
00:31vanity,
00:32so this is kind of my version of that.
00:34I really love being in this room because it kind of puts me in the zone before I get ready
00:38for my day.
00:39I have a lot of fun makeup that I like to play with, all of my hair products, and, of
00:44course, my wigs.
00:46I have over 25 wigs. I love straight, curly, wavy hairstyles, and it's just fun.
00:52I really like to sit in here and kind of get in the zone, play some really good music,
00:56have a glass of wine or coffee, depending on where I'm going, and just get dressed up.
01:00So this is my bathroom.
01:02What I love about it is taking long, luxurious baths in my bathtub.
01:06The one thing that is my pet peeve is this really loud fan
01:12that won't turn off unless I turn the lights off.
01:15So that's the one thing that I could say is probably a little bit tricky about this room.
01:20One of the main reasons why I decided on this place was because of this giant closet.
01:29I decided on an open storage solution for this closet,
01:33and I had seen a bunch of really cute things on Pinterest,
01:36but I decided to go with this really inexpensive set of drawers from Ikea.
01:41And I like that they slide out so I can kind of see where things are living,
01:45and it's very sturdy, and it's going to last me a long time.
01:47This couch was actually my splurge item for the apartment.
01:51I spent about $650 on this couch.
01:54I found this at a warehouse in downtown LA, and I instantly fell in love with it.
02:00My family altar is really important for me to have.
02:03I personally believe in guardian angels,
02:05and my great-grandmother is kind of my guardian angel,
02:10so I decided to build something really special
02:12that represented her being in the space with me
02:15and her kind of watching over me and protecting me.
02:18One of my favorite memories is actually growing up
02:20and being kind of underneath my mom and watching her cook,
02:24so having a fun kitchen was really important to me.
02:27I love making pasta with lots of creamy sauces and cheese,
02:31all that stuff that isn't good for you.
02:34I like making that stuff because it makes you feel good.
02:36I really appreciate the look of vintage glasses.
02:39Whenever I can, I try to buy glasses and pieces
02:42that remind me of a time gone past.
02:46For me, that means colored glasses or things with a unique stem,
02:50things that have really unique small details on them.
02:53It just gives it an extra little elegance to the space.
02:55I bought a bunch of flowers and dipped them in gold paint,
02:59threw some little string lights on there,
03:01and I think it came out really cute.
03:03Because I'm always working with other people's energy,
03:05I wanted to create a really neutral, kind of calm bedroom,
03:10not overly stimulating, and that's why I like it so much.
03:13Because when I'm in here, it kind of feels like very soft and gentle.
03:16I'm a proud plant mom.
03:17I like having something to take care of.
03:20I have a peace lily.
03:22I think it has separation anxiety.
03:24I won't water it for a few days,
03:26and it'll be fine if I'm in the apartment,
03:27but I leave for one or two days,
03:29and it's completely wilted.
03:31I have to take extra care of her.
03:33Some of the art in the place is actually original.
03:35I love to draw and paint.
03:37The rest of the art I have bought
03:39from this really fancy gallery called Target,
03:42and I love going to Target for art and home decor.
03:49Sorry.
03:50AKA Target.
03:51I love shopping at Target for art and easy, fun home decor pieces.
03:58I'm a Gemini, and a big part of my personality
04:01is being able to have freedom
04:02and utilizing versatility in my space.
04:05I love being able to rearrange my furniture.
04:08I like being able to add new accents.
04:10I'm always adding and removing things
04:12to make the space feel really new to me and exciting.
04:16I realized I was a medium probably about five or six years ago,
04:20but I've always had this kind of weird knowing
04:23that's, like, freaked my family out.
04:26So I decided to kind of learn more about what my abilities were,
04:30and now I use them to help other people.
04:33I do intuitive readings for people,
04:35and I also do Reiki and energy healing
04:38here inside my apartment, which is really cool.
04:41I really love using my gift to help other people.
04:44My spiritual journey has a lot of impact
04:46on the types of things that I put in my home
04:49and the placement of things in my home.
04:52What I really like is finding beautiful objects
04:55to put in different corners of the home,
04:57whether it's a stone or a nice photograph.
05:00I'm a big believer in writing down what you want
05:04and asking for it,
05:06and I remember when I was looking for a place,
05:09I wrote down exactly what I wanted the apartment to look like,
05:12exactly where I wanted it to be,
05:14how much I wanted to pay,
05:15and I wrote it on a piece of paper,
05:18folded it up, and put it away.
05:20And two weeks later, I found this place.
05:22I walked right in,
05:23and I was like,
05:25oh my God, this is my apartment,
05:26because it was everything that I really wanted in a place,
05:29and it was perfect for me.
05:30When I was a little girl,
05:31I always wanted to live a different life.
05:34I remember thinking about coming to L.A. one day
05:38and having this amazing experience.
05:41One day when I was cleaning my kitchen,
05:43I looked up and I realized
05:44that I could see the Hollywood sign,
05:46and it's tiny, tiny, tiny,
05:48but it meant a lot for me.
05:49It was kind of like my confirmation,
05:51my pat on the back that I'm where I'm supposed to be.
