Ahh, the infamous smoky eye. You're either a master at it or end up looking more racy raccoon than seductive siren. Pro or novice, it's a common misconception that when creating this look, black and gray are the obvious (and only) choices. We're over that and are ready for a new spin on the go-to going-out eye.

Fortunately, CK One Color global makeup artist Kayleen McAdams shares our passion for the unconventional. Her updated take on this classic look incorporates a whole lot of purple — a great unexpected color for fall — plus a hint of metallic to add a textured flair. It's perfect for a night out and can be done in five minutes (yes, really). Watch the video above to see just how easy it is to recreate this stunning smoky eye.

00:03I'm ready.
00:10Hi, I'm Kayleigh McAdams, CK One Color Global Makeup Artist.
00:14And I'm here with Rachel.
00:16And I'm going to show you how to do a metallic eye with a modern twist.
00:20I'm going to start with the eyeliner first.
00:22You want to make sure you line really close to the root of the lashes.
00:25You can see on the top, I brought the liner a little bit outside the lash line.
00:31And this is to give it that elongated feel.
00:33At the bottom, you can line it up with that.
00:36And I'm going to use a matching purple eyeshadow to set the eyeliner.
00:41I'm using this Eggplant Shimmery Purple.
00:45Don't choose anything with big chunks of glitter when you're using it all over the eye like this.
00:49But a little bit of shimmer really helps to capture the light and bring a lot of dimension to your
00:54eye.
00:55I'm using a short brush with really stiff bristles.
00:59It's going to deposit a lot of color.
01:01And you can go right on top of the liner.
01:03And I'm really pressing the color in.
01:06And then for the bottom, I'm going to use an angled brush.
01:10Just because it's a lot more narrow and so I really want to get it between the lashes on the
01:14bob.
01:15You can see it's kind of a harsh line and I want to soften that.
01:18So I'm just going to use a fluffy brush and this CK1 eyeshadow.
01:22And just deposit a little bit of product on the brush.
01:25So it's really sheer and light.
01:27And if you don't apply it very heavily, it's just going to give you that beautiful glow.
01:32So now to really embrace the metallic trend, I'm going to choose this Shimmery Green eyeshadow.
01:38I'm not going to put it all over the eye.
01:41The thing that makes this really modern and different is going to be that subtle hint of metallic on the
01:48center of the lid.
01:49And I'm just tapping it on.
01:51Okay, so this is the final look.
01:53My take on a modern metallic eye.
01:55It might look really complicated, but I promise you it's really easy.
01:5910 minutes max.
02:00Experiment.
02:01Have fun.
02:01Be adventurous.
02:02You can do it.
