How to not look like a zombie while sporting a pale lip.
Transcript
00:05I really love that pale lip look but I'm totally scared to do it on myself so I'm
00:11gonna double dare myself to actually give it a try. The dreaded pale lip look. Yeah
00:16it's very cool, it's very mod but when I try it I just look really washed out
00:21kind of zombie-ish which is surprisingly not the look I was going for. And it's a
00:25really popular look right now we're seeing it on the runway we're seeing it
00:28on the red carpet. What I want to do is show you not only how to choose the
00:31right shade but to choose a shade that makes it very easy and very wearable.
00:35Sometimes the most difficult part about wearing a pale lipstick is choosing the
00:38right shade. From the lightest to the darkest skin all you need to do is look
00:43at your own undertone. If you've got a yellow undertone to your skin or
00:45something golden go with that undertone in a lip color. If you've got a pink or
00:49red tone look for that base in a lip color and something beige or neutral is
00:54always going to be very safe for everyone. But what if you don't know your
00:57undertone how do you tell? The easiest trick is to take two products that most
01:01women already have in their makeup arsenal. A wedge sponge and a powder puff.
01:06Wedge sponges tend to be off-white. Something off-white is going to look much
01:10more natural against a yellow skin tone than something stark white. Annie has a
01:15yellow skin tone so the white looks very it pops really hard against it. You have a
01:20pink or red tone the white is going to feel very natural and the off-white is
01:24going to kind of make you look very orangey. So the color that I'm choosing is kind of a
01:29beige-y peach and I'm not applying it with any lip liner.
01:34Why not? Just to keep it easy. I'm also working with an opaque shade to give you the
01:40maximum impact but you could also sheer this down for an even more wearable pale look.
01:47There you go. Take a look. All right. Oh! Almost like you're a pro. I've considered it.
01:56My last trick to make this very wearable because a lot of women say they feel kind
01:59of corpsey or washed out. Take that same color and dot it right at the apple of the
02:05cheek and then using your finger or a brush just blend it right in. And that monochromatic compliment on
02:16the cheek will make that lip even more wearable. Oh cool! This is this is really
02:22subtle color but I feel like I have just a little bit of a glow which was always the
02:26hardest thing when I tried it before. I love that and bringing that little bit
02:29onto the cheek makes it so wearable so you're not just getting that really pale
02:33pow. You know my other trick? Bring a little bit of your foundation over or add a
02:38bit of blush and bronzer and all of a sudden you've got a pale lip that is perfect for summer.
02:42I know. I'm going to wear this out. It's a good summer daytime look. Drinks by the pool.
02:47Let's go. Right now. Let's go. Okay. Thank you so much James. Thank you. And thanks for
02:51watching Refinery29. We should do a whole thing where we just use old fashioned speak
02:56like we're in the Rat Pack. I like that. And deliver every line like we're in one of
02:59those old movies. I need a cigar. Sorry I didn't.
03:01Yeah.
