00:02In this video, I'm going to show you how to add black boxes to a PDF
00:05so that the data is redacted, it can't be searched,
00:07and it can't be recovered on your iPhone.

00:15So there is no built-in way to redact a PDF on our iPhone.
00:18You can draw over it, but there is a chance that that data may be recoverable
00:23when you send the PDF or if someone downloads it.
00:26So the tool that I recommend to redact a PDF on your iPhone
00:29is going to be pdfgadget.com.
00:31And full disclosure, I created pdfgadget.com
00:34because I wanted to be able to recommend a tool
00:35that doesn't require you to upload your PDFs to a server.
00:38All the tools on this website work directly in the browser on your iPhone.
00:41It also works on other devices such as Android, computers, things like that.
00:45Check the description. I'll have a link down there.
00:47Once you get to pdfgadget.com, just select more tools
00:49and then just find redact PDF right there under edit.
00:53Once you get to redact PDF, it's going to give you a quick warning
00:56that this does permanently remove the data that you redact from the PDF.
01:01So it's not going to be recoverable and that's just something you should know.
01:04Once you get here, just tap this box, find and select the PDF that you want to redact
01:08and then it will load the PDF pages right here.
01:11So now all we need to do is simply drag where we want the box to be.
01:16So it'll give you a quick example.
01:17If you mess up, select undo.
01:19You can also select clear and that will clear all the redactions for that page.
01:23So you just need to zoom in and make sure that you get the part that you want
01:29and then you can go to another page and you can redact a section of it right there as well.
01:34So after that, once you've made your redactions, select the output quality
01:39and if you're trying to send this somewhere or you're worried about the size,
01:43select balance or smaller file.
01:45But if you're not, you can select maximum quality.
01:48I'm just going to go ahead and use balance and then select download redacted PDF.
01:52It's going to process it and then it will open up the PDF right here
01:55where as you can see, it is now redacted.
01:58Now on an iPhone, it'll just open it up and show you an example.
02:01To save it, we need to select these lines down here and then select share.
02:05After that, scroll down and select save to files.
02:10Then just give it a name and then select save.
02:14So now when I open up the files app, I can see the redacted PDF right there.
02:17And there we go.
02:19I can open it up.
02:20I can share it and this data is now redacted and it can't be recovered.
