00:11That's a really good play. I know it doesn't get the first down, doesn't keep them on the field, but
00:16what it does is it keeps that defense on us.
00:19And I promise you, the next time in that situation, they'll have that run in the back of their minds.
00:24Don't want to punt from here, but too far for a field goal as well. They're going for it here.
00:30Now tumbled by Loa on four. He finds it beyond the marker, and he's blocked out right in the neighborhood
00:36of that 40-yard line.
00:38That's a gain of 10, and staring at that turnover on downs. Instead, they pick up the first.
00:44I just love that kind of execution because it's able to make an impact, Kate, beyond simply getting the first
00:49down.
00:50That yardage, it really sets them up now to be aggressive with a new set of downs.
01:03Tua, off the play fake.
01:06Oh, look at this. Here he goes.
01:10They rip off a big check of the field, and it sets them up to the first and goal.
01:13Obviously, a defense wants to take away all the reads and prevent any kind of big throw for the first
01:18down.
01:20Well, this QB will just lower his head and gash the defense with one of the biggest runs of the
01:25game.
01:25That's a seven-yard line.
01:31Drive has kind of seemed destined for the end zone, partner. First of a few chances now to reach it.
01:38Here's Robinson.
01:39And that's already just a lone yard.
01:41That brings up second down.
01:43Showing some patience in their ground game early here, Brock.
01:46Continuing to feed their guy despite the lack of results so far.
01:50I know this will sound kind of silly, but you've got to run the ball to run the ball.
01:54And what I mean by that, there's no way to get this run game going
01:57is unless you continue to give him the rock to try to warm it up.
02:03Second down. Here's Tua.
02:05Here's Tua.
02:06Hits his target in the end zone.
02:09Touchdown, Atlanta.
02:12This coaching staff has got to be a happy partner, a calm and calculated opening drive.
02:17Really impressed with the score, how they controlled the football, and they played at their own pace.
02:22Yeah, it's one of those drives that just pays dividends.
02:24I know it's the opening drive, but you're just taking some of the starch out of that defense
02:28and putting some doubt in their mind like, man, they just methodically shoved it right down our throat.
02:49Nick Fulk now for the extra point.
02:57Accuracy perfect there as it's center cut.
03:00And that's good for a 7-0 lead.
03:03That goes nothing.
03:31It's all lined up.
03:32Fulk ready to send this one flying.
03:36Here's RJ Harvey on the return.
03:39He stopped on the run back of the 27.
03:41So we'll see the Broncos offense now for the first half.
03:44And it's going to be the third-year quarterback leading the charge.
03:48The winner of double-digit games in each of his first two seasons, Bo Nix.
03:52At his best, Bo Nix is a point guard facilitating an offense.
03:56Getting that ball in and out of his hands as quickly as possible.
04:00But don't you dare sleep on his legs because he will hurt you with his athleticism too.
04:05And oh, by the way, did I mention a maturity well beyond his years?
04:11Putting a receiver in motion.
04:13First run to Gator for J.K. Talbis.
04:16He's able to manage a couple on that run.
04:18I don't think that's the amount that they were looking for there, Kate.
04:21Going to lead to some shuffling around here in the playbook.
04:24And a more aggressive call on second.
04:26At the 29-yard line.
04:31Following that little two-yard run, it's second and eight.
04:39Nix looking to throw.
04:43This finds Franklin.
04:45And now he goes after picking up a company.
04:47Brings that third down.
04:49It's not just imperative that a quarterback goes man for his own.
04:53Same thing for a receiver, especially on a drag route.
04:55When he sees zone coverage like that, just settle down.
04:58Find the soft spot.
04:59Give your quarterback a chance.
05:01They come to the line here.
05:02This is third and six.
05:10Now Nix.
05:15And he's going to go down.
05:16They haul him to the turf of the 21.
05:19Jalen Walker.
05:20That's going to bring up four through 15.
05:23That's exactly how you drive it up defensively.
05:25A three and out and a sack on top of it.
05:28Create that negative play.
05:29Create a little doubt in that quarterback's mind.
05:32And offensively, that's the worst way to start it.
05:35No rhythm.
05:36No tempo.
05:37And now you give the ball right back to the opponent.
05:42Collects this at the 32.
05:45Gets him something back on that return.
05:47They're up in the neighborhood of midfield.
05:49On to the field comes the Atlanta offense for the second time.
05:53And so far, they've executed exactly how they drew it up, Brock.
05:56Early lead.
05:56No points allowed.
05:58And a chance now to seize control of the game on their second possession.
06:01And Kate, generally, offenses love to script their first 10 to 15 plays.
06:05Well, this entire game script is playing out just the way they want to.
06:12Good starting spot here for the Falcons, Brock.
06:14This is first and 10.
06:19Man in motion, headed right.
06:40Last catch went the wrong way.
06:43It's second and 12.
06:46To throw.
06:47Tunga Vailoa.
06:50No one open, it looks like.
06:51So he's just going to chop into a different pair.
06:54Well, that's one can chop up to the pressure of earning that incompletion.
06:57They came in before he could find a target, hit him.
07:00Altered that last second attempt to get rid of it.
07:06So after that prior incompletion, we've got third down.
07:13Tunga setting up to throw.
07:15Tunga Vailoa.
07:18Just got it away before the hit, but it doesn't matter.
07:21It's incomplete.
07:21Fourth down coming up.
07:23I think that was the type of play we expected out of this defense to start the game.
07:28They can undo that opening drive touchdown they gave up.
07:31That can sure help to get yourself off the field with that third down stop.
07:35Fourth down.
07:36And on comes the former All-Pro Jake Bailey to punt.
07:48The Broncos headed down for their second drive of the game.
07:51And they haven't gotten their legs under them on offense just yet, Bronc.
07:54Three plays and a punt on their opening drive.
08:09All right, first and ten going heavy to the right side here.
08:11Three tight ends.
08:16They'll start at the ground with Dobbins.
08:18And that's an eight-yard chunk to start this one.
08:20That brings up second and two.
08:22Nice run there on first down, Bronc.
08:24Now his defense a little vulnerable ahead of the second down play.
08:27Sure is.
08:27And just kind of sets the table.
08:29Everything in that playbook is open to you.
08:31And if you want to be aggressive, right now might not be a bad time.
08:48I don't know about you, Kate, but he sure may have getting that first down look really easy.
08:52A lot easier than it's supposed to be for that defense.
08:55I think they'll hear about it when they get to the sidelines.
09:00You've set a downs for them from the 31.
09:14I think my favorite part is the magic he worked after the catch.
09:19The way he took the completion and made so much more out of it by adding all the extra yardage.
09:35First down from the 42.
09:45Here's Nix.
09:48He finds his running back, RJ Harvey.
09:51And he's marked down.
09:52Looks like at the 32-yard line.
09:54They get an even 10 on that play.
09:57And that's good for a Broncos first down.
09:59Play like this, that's exactly where you want to get in the ball.
10:02Right on the outside, where he's got the space and a lot more room to work.
10:07First and 10 from the 32.
10:13Over on the counter with Dobbins.
10:16Shoots away from one.
10:17And he works it inside the 30.
10:19It's a gain of seven.
10:20And already we're seeing the mind games.
10:22They can play with personnel.
10:23You talk about this all the time, Brock.
10:25Looked like a passing set.
10:26Left him zoom on the ground.
10:2810, 11, heck, even 20 personnel.
10:31Doesn't matter.
10:32Offensively, you get to dictate the terms.
10:34Kind of like those pitchers and catchers that once in a while will pitch backwards.
10:38Keep your opponent off guard.
10:40Throwing on second.
10:41Nix.
10:42Has him on the quick hitter.
10:44And he's brought down.
10:45They're going to mark him at the 14.
10:4712 yards on that play.
10:48A good call.
10:49That's him the first.
10:50I know the combine tries to test everything and possibly can physically.
10:53But I don't know how you test courage at the combine.
10:56Because there's nobody defending you.
10:58Nobody wants to hit you.
10:59Because that was the epitome of courage to make that in-cut and make the catch.
11:06Off the plate fake.
11:07Here's Nix.
11:09And he gets home.
11:11Touchdown, Denver.
11:14It seems like a lot of the time, Brock, even if the results aren't quite as flashy every
11:18rep, tight ends are even more reliable scores than a lot of receivers are when it comes
11:23to the passing game.
11:24Yeah, I would agree with that.
11:25But there's also a lot more real estate for them to work with.
11:28Think of the receivers.
11:29They've got to deal with the sidelines.
11:30That 12th defender.
11:31Many of these tight ends, they've got a ton of field to work with.
11:34And when they prove to the quarterback they can be a difference maker, they'll look for
11:38them.
11:43Will Lutz now on for the extra points.
11:51Sent right down.
