00:00Imagine you're a fish in Yerba's Blue Lagoon.
00:02This looks like a perfect shelter, but there is no exit.
00:06It's a ghost trap, lost by fishers and now a threat to the whole lagoon.
00:10Fishers use them to hunt blue crab, an invasive species that became their livelihood.
00:14Hundreds of thousands are believed to lie forgotten on the seabed.
00:18They never stop fishing.
00:19Whatever swims into a trap, dies.
00:21And where the traps settle, the seagrass dies too.
00:25This endemic seagrass produces a vast amount of oxygen,
00:28supports countless underwater species and is a major carbon sink.
00:33Now, divers are retrieving them.
00:35An NGO's app maps lost traps by GPS.
00:39Onshore, they are repaired and reused.
00:41Every trap recovered is one less ghost on the seabed.
