00:00There's no question who runs at this group of taekwondo athletes.
00:03They dance to the tune of Sherylann Sanka and while they may enjoy this social experience, training is not for
00:10kicks.
00:10I'm very competitive and the same thing, you know, I'm still in with my athletes.
00:16She sent two female athletes to the Columbia Fourth Kids Open, Aria Lala and Alexis Serby, both medaled.
00:23It was a very nice experience, it was really fun.
00:27And, um, had lots of very skilled fighters.
00:33Sanka was satisfied with their performance.
00:36I was very pleased with them, what I saw from them, you know, they improve a lot, you know, from
00:40the year back we've been, we've been traveling, going to the tournament, competing, you know, with our program.
00:46And outside there what I see is not, you know, less, they are not doing what we are doing.
00:52It's just, they're explosive, more out, they have more experience in the ring and with you.
00:58But I am very pleased with their performance, what I saw in them.
01:02The work continues.
01:04They are always training for the next tournament.
01:07It's never easy for the girls.
01:08So, I train about 15 hours per week.
01:13The type of training I do varies.
01:15So, over the summer vacation, my coach and my classmates and I would go to Chancellor at 5.30 in
01:24the morning to run and then we'd reach the top of the hill, we'd do drills.
01:27And I'd say that was very, very good training.
01:31And as of now, we just do more, like, drills and conditioning training here in Dojang and I try to
01:40do whatever I could do extra at home.
01:42As part of Lala's birthday celebrations, it's tradition that she battles each of her teammates consecutively.
02:14Ten-year-old Serbi is also learning the ropes.
02:17She enjoys delivering the spin kick once her opponent survives the death stare.
02:24Sanka has been getting the support from the Ministry of Sport to make the trips possible.
02:29Next up, they are hoping to go to the Canadian Open in 2027.
02:33It will be a new start for Sanka, who recently lost her mother.
02:37I look at my mom very, very strong.
02:39And I guess because of that structure built there, you know, I get that from her, you know, she was
02:44a very strong, powerful person.
02:46And I think I, well, that's what she instilled in me, it has worked for her, who I am today.
02:52It's the kick in the end that keeps her going.
