00:00A British judge just ruled against a mystery celebrity accused of sexual misconduct. The
00:05Telegraph reports that Mr. Justice Nicklin handed down a decision dismissing the claim,
00:10but an interim injunction keeps the celebrity's anonymity while he decides whether to appeal.
00:15The court was told the mystery celebrity is not well enough to make that decision on whether
00:20or not to appeal. This follows a month of legal proceedings as the celebrity fought
00:24to conceal his identity.
00:26The case went to London's High Court after an anonymous, well-known UK celebrity, revealed
00:31to be a man, had his legal team warned the court of dire consequences if his identity was unsealed,
00:38along with the allegations against him. The celebrity was seeking an injunction to block
00:42articles from being published, revealing allegations of him having inappropriate and exploitative
00:47sexual activities with a large number of girls and young women. The lawyer said the celebrity
00:52attempted suicide twice after being asked by The Guardian and ITN to comment on the allegations,
00:58adding that the mystery client was hospitalized for months. The anonymous celebrity was released
01:03from the hospital after the first attempt on their life, and allegedly, soon after, tried
01:07again.
01:08The BBC reported lawyers said the anonymous celebrity male would be highly likely to attempt
01:13suicide again if the allegations were made public. His legal team claimed a future attempt
01:18would be a result of concern about trial by media rather than any wrongdoing. They went
01:23on to argue the only reason why the published articles wouldn't be fatal is if the man was
01:27locked up and prevented from his desire to end his life. The anonymous celebrity denies the
01:32accusations of sexual misconduct against him, which includes that he used his power as a celebrity
01:37to forge relationships with young women and teenagers to try to have sex with them. The lawyer also
01:42said the anonymous celebrity has no intention of returning to public life. However, multiple
01:47UK news organizations, including The Guardian and ITN, argued in court they have the right
01:52to publish articles about the misconduct claims with the man's identity. But ITN and The Guardian
01:57also argued there was no legitimate basis to restrain the publication of public interest journalism
02:02and that the celebrity's suicide risk could be lowered with proper mental health treatment.
02:07Per the BBC, a medical report for the celebrity said treatment could improve their mental state,
02:12but not completely mitigate the risk of an attempt on their life.
02:15A lawyer representing ITN and Guardian News said journalists have completed wide-ranging
02:20investigations, interviewing 100 people. The attorney representing the two news organizations
02:25said many of the women who have come forward have been traumatized by the alleged conduct by the
02:30anonymous celebrity, and have suffered mental health crises and mental illness as a result.
