Cristiano Ronaldo has retired from international football, ending a record-breaking twenty-three-year career with Portugal.
The forty-one-year-old announced the decision on Thursday in an emotional video message, saying the day had come to hand back Portugal's famous number seven shirt. Ronaldo made a record two hundred and thirty-four appearances for his country, scoring a record one hundred and forty-six goals, and lifted the European Championship in twenty sixteen and the Nations League in twenty nineteen and twenty twenty-five. He will keep playing club football with Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia.
