Russell Brand found guilty of rape and sexual assault: the British comedian and actor was convicted at Southwark Crown Court in London on Thursday, 5 November 2026, of one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault, and remanded into custody to await sentencing on Monday, 9 November.
A jury at Southwark Crown Court delivered the verdicts after a three-week trial and three days of deliberations. Brand, 51, was found guilty of raping a 21-year-old fan he met after a stand-up show at the Hammersmith Apollo in 2009, and of sexually assaulting three other women between 2004 and 2009. He was cleared of two other rape charges and one count of attempted indecent assault. The seven charges involved six women, with alleged offences spanning 1999 to 2009.
Brand denied all the charges, telling the court the encounters were consensual or had been reinvented or reimagined. Prosecutors said he used his fame to take what he wanted. The case followed a 2023 joint investigation by The Sunday Times and Channel 4's Dispatches, after which five women accused Brand of sexual offences. He was first charged in April 2025, with further charges in December 2025.
The judge, Mr Justice Bennathan, told Brand he faced a significant custodial term. Once one of Britain's most famous broadcasters and a Hollywood actor, Brand now awaits sentencing on Monday.
