00:35signing him to a little extension there and the guys kind of earned it so far so what can you

00:40us about greg newsome and what that could mean for any other guys they may be looking at to to
00:46lock up
00:47before the season ends well it's a great it's a great message isn't it you know what i mean uh

00:53newsome was a former first round pick um didn't do great last year with the jaguars different
00:58scheme um signs a one-year eight million dollar totally prove it contract right you know some
01:04incentives in there but you know he was a better player than that but didn't think the market was
01:10great some guys got signed earlier comes here and prove it i did not think he would be able to
01:14prove
01:15it in six games he only played six games he didn't play last week he was out with a concussion
01:19so giants
01:21take advantage of the bye week and signed him to a three-year 46 million dollar extension you know what
01:27is he 26 27 years old he's played terrific he is a um he's got a presence you know he's
01:33one of
01:33those northwestern guys you know they they kind of have a thing to them you know they're sharp guys i
01:39mean that's kind of a generalization but i think it often is true fit in like a glove wants to
01:45play
01:45you know aggressive press man corner stuff he's a big statuesque guy speaks very well already has
01:51leadership qualities so why not lock him up right now it's interesting because you know a month or
01:58two ago we said oh my gosh we don't know what they have at cornerback right you know deontay banks

02:01unproven newsom is you know didn't do well with the jaguars paulson adibo's not coming off a good year
02:07colton hood's a rookie okay now what do we do uh well how do we look at it now deontay
02:13banks is playing
02:13the best football of his career by far um newsom has been terrific um adibo lost his job lost his
02:20starting job got hurt came back and played well last week and colton hood got some reps early and
02:26now is taking the um assuming the typical rookie wait and learn and you know earn it type thing um
02:32where do we go from here adibo's under contract for next year newsom is now under contract for three
02:37years colton hood is under contract for three more years as a rookie that brings us to deontay
02:44banks right he's gonna get paid right he's going to get paid and whether they can work out something
02:52now i don't know if they can um here's the way i was told look newsom earned it and now
02:59you have
02:59insurance in case you lose deontay banks and you have colton hood a second round pick a high second
03:05round pick waiting in the wings along with adibo are they better with deontay banks at this point
03:11unquestionably you can't sign everybody so i don't think they chose newsom over banks i just think
03:18newsom was the easier sign right now and you know it feels that the banks is probably going to want

03:23play this out and maybe test free agency and um if he keeps playing like this he will get a

03:45point he's whatever he signs for in the offseason he's earning this season but yeah great insurance

05:16they're going against each other you know the eagles decided to bench tanner mckee did not play

05:26um you know joe milton has been one of those guys that like giants fans have always oh why don't

05:30sign joe milton why don't we sign joe milton um didn't wasn't great with michigan was better but
05:36not great with tennessee um six five 235 pounds an unbelievably strong arm you know people say he can
05:44throw it 80 80 um yards you know he so he he's big arm good athlete has never made a
05:51start in the
05:52nfl giants played him don't forget last year in week 18 right remember the cowboys dac prescott started
05:58and left at halftime and um you know they kind of put their backups in joe milton was a backup
06:04for the
06:04cowboys uh did not play well play well against the giants the giants won that game going away um you

06:10i have no idea what to expect from joe milton i do have something that i think i expect from
06:16denard
06:16wilson and that is we're going to get after this kid in his first nfl start um you know he's
06:21been
06:22around the nfl block a little bit milton but it's his first start it's his he's been in five games

06:28games right uh in his nfl career not starting so um very interesting unexpected and yeah jj mccarthy
06:35um you know it's funny talking to him in the locker room you know going on the podium he's an
06:41incredibly accessible player you can just go shoot the shoot the you know shoot the stuff with him
06:47anytime you want just go talk to him very pleasant i talked to him the other day about his wife
06:53and his
06:53one-year-old son coming finally after after a month coming to live with him he said that's going to
06:58really help him a lot because he really missed him for a month you know facetime with a one-year
07:03-old
07:03brandon you know is not the same right is tucking him into bed at night and you know giving him
07:08his
07:08break no no not the same you know you know it's funny jj said you know you forget these guys
07:12he's
07:1323 years old okay he's been married he he knew his wife when they were 15 year old sweethearts okay
07:19they've been together a long time uh he said when he left minnesota you know you had to leave right
07:24you know you get traded to the giants you got to leave the next day he said his son was
07:28kind of
07:31walking stumbling moving around he said you know i mean he was walking but he didn't miss his first
07:37steps but a month later he said he's running around he's running backwards he's running forwards
07:42so you miss a lot in a month right so he's glad to have them back and it's it's kind
07:47of hard to forget
07:48that it's kind of hard to remember that he's been around a month you know i mean he he's fit
07:54in so
07:55seamlessly right now as james is back up and now he's the starter he's going to be the starter
08:00unless something crazy happens he gets hurt or there's a series of games where he doesn't play
08:04well but we have to pump the brakes a little bit he started one game for the giants and and
08:10so
08:10um let's see it will be this is fascinating right you have no idea what to expect from him
08:16and neither do i unless you tell me you do i don't know what to expect from him is he
08:20going to be great
08:21is he going to be like he was in houston is he going to be okay is he going to
08:25revert to maybe
08:25some of that vikings form um he's he seems comfortable comfortable confident you know going
08:32i asked him about going on the road he's played in all the biggest road venues in college football
08:36ever um you know he's played in some certainly in the nfl so this is a work in progress and
08:43it's
08:43going to be very interesting to see how he does in the link where we have both been many times
08:47on the very wrong end of the score for the giants i think we see his legs a little bit

08:54going up against this big fangio defense that cover four rush four drop you know play quarter
09:00coverage behind it a lot over the top you know they're going to try and take malik neighbors out
09:04of there i think he did a great job against that against the texans and kind of somewhat of a
09:09similar
09:09scheme and then if they do try and i mean they had a lot of success throwing the football to
09:14the
09:14outside of the field so anytime you have a young quarterback and you don't have to have him force
09:19the ball across the middle you know like they say tips and overthrows got to have those on defense i
09:25think that that could just keeps matt naggy comfortable with the play calls they can have for
09:30him um but if he again if he needs to use his feet he didn't have to use his feet
09:35that much i believe
09:36sack like two or three times but no real design qb runs or he didn't really scramble that much so
09:42i think it's that's just just go be yourself in this moment paul you know that's what i would say
09:48to the kid just go because you it's already set up for you your success story your redemption story
09:55if you want to call it that for a 23 year old and only his i guess you could say
09:59his second year in
10:00the nfl even though you know it's his third uh you could already going through a redemption season
10:05like it's it's right there his story the storyline is right there in front of him and all he has
10:11to do
10:11is just go use the weapons that's already there it's not like you're stepping into what let's see
10:17a giants quarterback of the past like had like like a jake i guess jake from or glennon or or

10:25glennon or one of those guys didn't have the the playmakers as a whole on the perimeter like a jj
10:33mccarthy jackson dart james winston has had so it's been a luxury for this year's giants quarterbacks
10:40to be able to have the upgrade and tight pass catcher and tight end run game uh but kind of
10:47pretty much about the same and then now you have oh outside we'll have in saquon but the production
10:53was still kind of the same anyway because the offensive line was was really kind of weak when
10:58saquon was here but i'm talking as a whole the weapons on the outside malachi fields uh malik neighbors
11:05and these guys then i i think the jj mccarthy and these backup quarterbacks are in a position
11:11to win and all he has to do uh is be himself paul been talking to the fans they love
11:17the show whether
11:18it's i'm at a watch party or i'm walking around at the games you have a lot of fans around

11:42out of this bye week where do you see the new york giants headed in this second half of the
11:46season
11:49a lot of people looking ahead of of the season to the playoffs or the second half of the season
11:55uh we've been kind of talking about this this eagles game concentrating on that but paul the
12:00giants this is the kickoff to their second half of the season or at least after the bye
12:05do you think this team can handle now being the favorites in these football games well you know
12:11what tune in on friday right because they've got the eagles on sunday and the commanders on thursday
12:16night back at metlife stadium so it comes you know john harbaugh said right after they beat the
12:21texans these next two games will kind of set the foundation and and the pathway for us for the rest
12:27of the year and it will i mean if they win these next two games they're completely in the driver's
12:31seat in the division there's no question about it they will have buried the eagles they will have
12:35buried the commanders and um the cowboys are doing a pretty good job of burying themselves you know what
12:41i mean so um you know the giants certainly still have to go to dallas you know if you look
12:45ahead at
12:45the schedule we all said oh my gosh you know the beginning they have to get through some of these
12:49easier games quote unquote because then it gets really tough they have what of the next nine games
12:56including the commanders let's take the eagles out because we're talking about them this week
12:59they only have four games against playoff teams you know because the cowboys are not a playoff team
13:05the eagles are not a playoff team the jaguars 49ers at seattle at detroit so they can if they can
13:13navigate their way look they're not going to run the table here they're they're not in the same class
13:18of the 49ers i don't think you know going to seattle is is not mission impossible but it's the
13:24next thing going to detroit that is a real difficult assignment we're getting ahead of ourselves here
13:30but i i want to look to to i don't want to sound like john harbaugh want to know but
13:36i have been to
13:38the link so many times and seen so much bad football and some good football but no wins since 2013
13:43that i
13:44think they can purge a lot of demons certainly with the fans i mean harbaugh doesn't have these
13:49demons jj mccarthy doesn't have these demons um you know some of the players don't have these demons
13:53you know malachi fields and isaiah likely don't have these feeling of these demons um you know
13:59malik neighbors has some of them certainly uh andrew thomas yeah they have those because they've lost
14:04in in the link uh they win this game i think it really the eagles aren't good we know that
14:10right
14:10now but they're not an easy team to beat even though they're so depleted so if you can go in
14:15there and do that i think that really says a lot to set them up for the second half i
14:19really do

15:00of 2012 i'm a one game at a at a time guy paul i i can't even i can't look
15:06but i can't look past
15:08practice today let alone the playoffs is there is the storyline at least can is do you think the
15:18storyline there is home playoff game or bus for this giants team without everything looks in the
15:25path that's in front of them well yes i mean boy john harbaugh did not give us these questions did
15:31he because he would he does not like these kind of questions but they're if i say they're in the
15:36driver's seat to win the division that means they get a home playoff game you know that's what happens
15:40whether you win seven eight nine or ten games if you win the division you get a home playoff game
15:45and so you have to readjust the the the bar as the season goes on you know in in the
15:52summer if i said
15:53to you the bar was winning the division you would say that's unfair that it's an unfair bar to set

15:59the giants seven games in you say that is totally fair so yeah i mean i remember the met life
16:04stadium
16:05has had what one home playoff game between the giants and the jets it was was that the falcons game

16:11the uh the falcons game yeah they gave up what two points the giants in that game um they totally
16:17dominated who would have thought that all these years later they would still have not have been a
16:22playoff game in met life stadium i'm sure that's what season ticket holders and and and you know
16:26staunch fans are thinking man if we can just get a home playoff game in the cold in that gray

16:33building in january right that's what you want um we're getting ahead of ourselves you know the next
16:39home game will be thursday night against the commanders there's a game sunday at the link as

16:57leave the people anything have you feeling uneasy when it comes to this matchup on sunday well a couple
17:04of things uneasy yeah who's going to be the running back you know i mean it's going to be motor
17:08singletary he'll probably start don't forget he was so down on the depth chart that he was a healthy
17:13scratch in three straight games right and then he you know they they finally you know they they cut
17:18naji harris and he comes in he and oh by the way he he runs for 30 yards in the
17:23game winning
17:23touchdown in houston right cam scatteru did not practice wednesday or thursday don't forget on that
17:2842 yard run in houston he he pulled up he hurt his hamstring he's i i'll say it right now
17:35he's not
17:35going to play on sunday he's not going to be ready you don't come back from a hamstring if you
17:39don't practice so he's not going to play tyrone tracy is on ir he's not going to play for the
17:44next four games so i mean if any giants fan can just rattle off the names of the running backs

18:22these injuries they signed him you know jim harbaugh must have talked to john and said yeah

18:57will run the ball that's a big concern so paul with those concerns do you feel as though john harbaugh

19:28jonathan taylor is going to be moved right now out of indianapolis you know what i mean i mean they
19:32don't i mean jonathan taylor is beloved he's very close to the owner with the colts he is a class
19:39act he is the face of the franchise daniel jones isn't the face of the franchise you know quinton
19:44nelson was a you know a hall of fame caliber guard but he wasn't the face of the franchise
19:49jonathan taylor is the face of the franchise if you trade him you have to get an unbelievable haul
19:54because it is not a popular move in the building out of the building anywhere um and i don't know
20:00if anyone's going to give them an incredible haul right now for jonathan taylor if i were the giants
20:05would i give him a second and a third you know one in 27 one in 28 i probably would

20:10terrific and he's still 27 and he's signed for good money but not crazy money considering what
20:16these running backs are getting um i think he's a difference maker do i think it puts the giants in
20:21the super bowl i do not um i i would be surprised if the giants don't get a running back

20:57want to be aggressive i don't think they're going to be crazy stupid just throwing draft picks you
21:02know f them picks like the rams did but um um you know don't forget the trade deadline is tuesday
21:08so we will if nothing happens before sunday we will know after sunday what happens if the giants
21:15lay an egg in philly maybe they say oh my gosh we need help or maybe we got to hold

21:21win they go when we got to keep moving we got we we've got this we got to keep going

21:27colts really going to let jonathan taylor play on sunday which it seems like they are that is a huge
21:34risk for a guy you want to trade or you're thinking of trading he's he's one turned ankle away from
21:41saying okay we had a deal but now it's off now it's off so um a lot moving on i
21:47think the giants
21:47would like to be aggressive but um it takes two to tango um put it this i'll be surprised if

21:52don't bring someone who can either help in the running game or help stop the run by tuesday
