00:03is this the future of absorbent materials it just may be if these researchers from
00:08maryland university have anything to say about it this is the new super absorbent material
00:13they've developed which they say can take in some three times as much liquid as others the
00:17researchers say they've combined the absorbent properties of both paper towels and hydrogels
00:21with this gelatin-like material the result something that can absorb 100 times its own
00:26weight in liquid and while the material might be good at cleaning up in the kitchen its uses might
00:30exceed those in the home when used on blood the small piece of material was able to absorb pretty
00:35much all of it in seconds that's compared to traditional gauze which was only able to absorb
00:39just over half but drips afterwards but as they might say in an infomercial that's not all the
00:45material might actually help stop bleeding as well meaning it could be used for bandages however the
00:49most incredible thing is that it's made out of fairly ordinary materials that undergo a fairly
00:54extraordinary process resulting in this super absorbent paper towel of the future
