Almost two months after receiving his conditional pardon, former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has paid the RM50mil fine that allows him to serve the rest of his jail sentence at home.

However, the conditional pardon covers only the SRC conviction, leaving questions over his 1MDB sentence, his political role and the impact on Umno.

00:00Najib's heading home. What's next?
00:03Almost two months after receiving his conditional pardon,
00:06former PM Datuk Sri Najib Razak has finally paid the 50 million fine
00:09that allowed him to spend the rest of his jail sentence at home.
00:13Actually, UMNO paid it with funds that the party raised from donations.
00:17But what's next for the former UMNO president and Barisan National Chairman?
00:21More importantly, will he still need to go back to prison?
00:25On October 14 this year, the High Court rejected Najib's bid
00:28to stay his 15-year jail sentence and the 11.38 bill fine
00:32arising from his conviction in the YMDB trial.
00:34And that sentence is only set to begin in August 2028
00:37after the prison term for his SRC conviction ends.
00:40So there's still a possibility that Najib may need to go back to jail
00:43if his appeal against his YMDB conviction fails
00:45or if he fails to get a stay.
00:48That's because the conditional pardon applies only to his conviction in the SRC trial.
00:52And with the full conditions of his house arrest yet to be made public,
00:55it remains unclear what political activity Najib will be allowed to take part in, if at all.
01:00The more interesting question now is
01:02how Najib Razak's house arrest will impact UMNO,
01:06especially when the Malacca polls are in full swing
01:08with just a week to go before voting.
01:10And ultimately, will Malaysia ever achieve closure
01:12and put the YMDB debacle behind it?
