00:05He was one of the biggest young stars, that rose to fame in the early 2000s.
00:11The pop star was able to create a massive following in a very short amount of time.
00:16He had sold out concerts, sold millions of albums, and had multiple celebrity romances
00:21that drew attention.
00:24Unfortunately, the success wasn't sustainable, and he would stumble down a long and dark path.
00:30Let's take a closer look at the story of the former teen sensation Aaron Carter, and
00:35find out what actually happened.
00:39The Carters were just an ordinary middle-class Florida family, though slightly dysfunctional,
00:45many would say.
00:46The parents drank often, the children routinely fought, but they all came together at the end
00:51of the day.
00:52But the normalcy would quickly fade away when the eldest son Nick in the family found great
00:58success in the music industry.
01:00The Backstreet Boys would become the most popular boy band in the world by far.
01:05They sold millions of albums, toured the world, and was every little girl's crush.
01:11The Carter family would see great fortune come flying in quickly and ferociously.
01:16Their lifestyle saw a huge upgrade, with the extra income that came with a famous singer
01:21now in the family.
01:22It didn't take long for Rob and Jane Carter to see another golden opportunity with Nick's
01:28younger brother.
01:29But unlike Nick, Aaron couldn't sing much at all.
01:33However, this wouldn't stop the parents from attempting to get him in the business as well.
01:38In an era where manufacturing an artist was all too common and highly profitable.
01:44The family would try to make a music career work regardless, as it wouldn't be outside the
01:49realm of possibility.
01:51The primary focus would be selling the packaging of an adorable boy singer.
01:55Pushing pure vocal talent was an impossible task.
01:59Also being the brother of a very famous singer was just enough to work with at the time.
02:05Nepotism would be a recipe to cut the line in the industry and garner instant interest with
02:10the media and also appeal to the younger demographic.
02:13By the age of just nine, Aaron had his first highly engineered album on store shelves.
02:20He also was opening for the Backstreet Boys at sold-out concerts.
02:24The heavily engineered Freshman Project went on to go gold, subsequently propelling the youngster
02:29into the spotlight.
02:31His success would grow even larger with a follow-up release only a few years later.
02:37For the new album, the creative team decided to switch things around, in order to make
02:42up for the lack of singing talent.
02:44While the original style worked commercially, it wasn't received so well critically.
02:50With hip-hop's popularity growing even larger around the globe and now dominating the music
02:55industry.
02:56The updated version of Aaron as an artist would now incorporate fun and kid-friendly raps.
03:02The change would pay off in a major way, and the new album sold like gangbusters, going
03:08three times platinum.
03:10The Carter parents would benefit greatly, now having two of their children bringing in massive
03:15amounts of money.
03:17Nick and Aaron basically became the sole providers for the family, upgrading their lifestyle tremendously.
03:23They got more luxurious cars, bigger homes, and expensive wardrobes as a result of the success
03:29of their children.
03:30While massive hits from Aaron's albums were taking over radio airwaves and music networks.
03:36He also appeared on many of the most popular Nickelodeon and Disney shows.
03:42The young pop star even began dating a few of the rising stars in the entertainment industry.
03:47But like many that reached supreme fame as an adolescent.
03:52The stardom and success often doesn't last very long.
03:55As Aaron began to get older, his fan base just didn't stick around.
04:01Much of his initial demographic that he catered to early on simply moved on as they matured.
04:07His music was no longer appealing to the very same fans who had his posters taped on their
04:12pink walls.
04:14Aaron's latest releases tanked in sales, seeing a major decline in profits.
04:18The once adored pop star began to fade into obscurity as the years went on.
04:25Despite multiple attempts to revive his struggling career as a teenager, nothing seemed to work.
04:38The singer accused others around him of taking advantage of him, including managers and even
04:44his parents.
04:46His relationship with his family became more messy and suffered greatly as a result.
04:56Carter ventured down a path of substance abuse to cope with all his developing issues and
05:01past trauma.
05:03And as the years went by, Aaron's life only seemed to get worse.
05:08He would file for bankruptcy in his early twenties, be arrested multiple times and have to undergo
05:14stints in rehab centers.
05:16The public also saw his appearance undergo a major change.
05:21Long gone was the clean cut image many had become familiar with.
05:25The Aaron Carter that once was a fan favorite in the early two thousands was truly a thing
05:30of the past.
05:31Things would reach ahead in the winter of 2022.
05:35The former child star was found deceased in his bathtub after overdosing on unknown substances.
05:41Aaron was only 34 years old.
05:45The remaining members of his already fractured family were deeply devastated by the tragedy
05:50that occurred.
05:51But they also were very aware he wasn't in the best space mentally and hasn't been for
05:56quite a while on his journey.
05:58The former star was unable to recover from the less than ideal upbringing where he was thrust
06:03into stardom at a young age.
