00:04She was one of the most adored Nickelodeon stars that captivated a wide audience.
00:10Her talent was very apparent and it seemed like the sky was the limit for the young actress.
00:16Unfortunately, she would stumble down a dark road and her life would take a drastic turn.
00:22Let's take a closer look at the story of the former child star known as Amanda Bynes
00:27and find out what actually happened.
00:30It didn't take long for Amanda's career to take off in thrive in show business.
00:35Her parents saw she had the performative gene early on.
00:39And like most child stars, she was encouraged to take it serious.
00:43Her folks booked her for multiple television commercials and theater plays before she reached
00:49the age of seven.
00:50But comedy was her real bread and butter as she could easily make others laugh in an instant.
00:56With support from her family, they went all in on building Amanda's skill set, choosing
01:01to enroll her in a children's camp dedicated to comedy.
01:05The Nickelodeon network, in their constant pursuit of young talent, eventually discovered the
01:10energetic pre-teen.
01:12Bynes was immediately offered a spot to join their ensemble sketch comedy show.
01:17Hi everyone, it's me Amanda!
01:19Hey, what's up?
01:20I just want to tell y'all how happy and perky I am to be joining the cast of all
01:24that.
01:25At just 10 years old, Bynes was stealing the show, with unforgettable character portrayals.
01:31Not only was she able to showcase impeccable comedic timing in sketches, she was also extremely
01:37professional on set.
01:39Amanda made very few mistakes during tapings, she always came prepared, and could make scenes
01:45better with her unique style.
01:47When it came to figuring out who should be next, to get their own show on the network.
01:52Amanda became the obvious choice for the showrunners in charge.
01:56It only took three seasons to get her own series, and she would not disappoint when her number was
02:02called.
02:03The self-titled Amanda show, focused on what she did best, which was playing a variety of
02:08amusing characters.
02:10But she too showed she could do an excellent job at hosting, in front of a live audience.
02:15Amanda quickly became one of the premier performers for the network.
02:19When the series finally ended after Bynes turned 16, numerous offers came her way in the world
02:25of comedy.
02:26When the Nickelodeon showrunner Dan Schneider was developing a new sitcom for the WB, he
02:32had one person in mind for the part.
02:35The new series would become a primetime hit on television.
02:39The show was able to attract a wide range of viewers, especially young adults and teens.
02:45While Bynes was no longer doing multiple characters for quick laughs anymore, Amanda showed she
02:51could still very much carry a traditional sitcom with her acting range.
02:56Her success was no fluke, the rising star won a number of awards throughout each chapter
03:01in her short career.
03:03However something would change, after her breakout years where she thrived as a teenager.
03:09Despite showcasing supreme skills in the realm of clean comedy, the offers and roles seemed
03:15to only dry up after her teenage years was over.
03:18Like many child stars that became popular during their youth, being typecast often becomes a
03:24serious hurdle to overcome.
03:26Throughout Bynes' entire career, she was known best for a youthful perky and wholesome persona,
03:32with the squeezable cheeks to match.
03:34While this innocent image helped early in her career for playing a likable teenager, it
03:40didn't translate well to the more mature roles available in her current age range.
03:45Bynes became more self-conscious about her youthful appearance as the offer slowed down
03:50within the industry.
03:51With plenty of money to burn and tons of free time on her hands, recreational drug use seemed
03:58to become more prevalent in her daily life going forward.
04:02When a role in a future cult classic came along, where she could showcase a different, more
04:06seductive side.
04:08The struggling actress who had been experimenting with substances began exhibiting odd behavior
04:13while on set.
04:16Unfortunately for her, the inability to perform at a professional level would lead to Bynes being
04:21replaced during the production of the film.
04:24The talent swap was handled quietly, and no ill words were spoken about Amanda to the press.
04:30But it was a major lost opportunity that could have benefited her career greatly during the
04:36transition period.
04:37But her odd and erratic behavior would later reach headlines for other reasons.
04:43Amanda was involved in several serious traffic incidents, including fleeing scenes of car accidents.
04:49One even while a police stop was being conducted.
04:53Around this time her appearance also started to dramatically change.
04:58The innocent, well put together look disappeared, and replaced with tattoos, odd hairstyles, and
05:04facial piercings.
05:06Social media also became a place where public concern was raised about her mental well-being.
05:12Her Twitter post would come frequently that suggested she may no longer be operating with a clear
05:17state of mind.
05:19Bynes called out other celebs, made emotional rants, and started making bold claims unprovoked.
05:26One post even suggesting she was abused sexually by her own father.
05:30And another saying he implanted a microchip in her brain when she was younger.
05:35Her mother would later confirm what many had already assumed, that Amanda was struggling with
05:40her mental health.
05:42Things reached ahead when her neighbors claimed they witnessed the actress start a small fire
05:47near someone's home.
05:49Well at first they asked me if I knew a shorter lady with fuzzy blonde hair carrying a chihuahua,
05:58and I said no, and I don't know.
06:01I've never met Amanda or her family.
06:04So it was just a random act of vandalism?
06:07I think so.
06:08The police would be called to the residence, and Bynes was put on a psychiatric hold following
06:13the unusual incident.
06:15Her mother finally stepped in, and she petitioned the court for a conservatorship over Amanda.
06:21Going forward with the new arrangement, Bynes would slowly but surely get back on track.
06:26She finally was able to receive the proper medical attention she desperately needed.
06:32Amanda even was able to graduate from a college fashion program during the recovery process.
06:38The conservatorship would last for nearly a decade and save her life.
06:43It later was revealed she had been diagnosed with a bipolar disorder.
