00:00I want to briefly just wrap up the answer we were giving to our last caller who was like,
00:04why no questions about the game?
00:06So first of all, I do think the game today is going to get just the nature of our world
00:11right now.
00:11It's going to get swallowed up a little bit by the drama that's going on.
00:14I also think some media members probably rushed out of the press conference
00:18because they wanted to get down the street to Drew Rosenhaus and Brandon Ayuk's arrival.
00:22I also think the third part of that is a little bit asked and answered.
00:27Some of the game-specific questions, they get asked earlier in the week to Kyle Shanahan.
00:34And then I guess the fourth part of that is, yeah, sometimes media members,
00:38like if they're there every day and you ask the question on a Wednesday,
00:43like fans may have these thoughts going through their head on Friday
00:47and the media is like, we're kind of already past that.
00:50And so maybe there's a little bit of a disconnect there sometimes.
00:53Like, you know, I think we all see that.
00:56But anyway, that's my answer to that.
00:58I don't know if you have anything to add on that sort of a thing.
01:01Why did the press conference, why was it so short?
01:04Why does it feel like everybody's ignoring that there's a football game in 48 hours?
01:08Just go back to yesterday where I think Kubiak and Raheem Morris both spoke
01:12and Brock Purdy as well.
01:13And so you can go back to yesterday.
01:15And if you want to get actual pregame football content, it's there.
01:19And today is about this.
01:21And you've got a news helicopter overhead.
01:24You've got the police at the ready or not at the ready.
01:27You've got the super agent and the player coming back to the facility where last time we saw him there,
01:33he was speeding by at 100 miles an hour.
01:35The lascivious or sexy elements of that part of the story.
01:40I'm sorry, it outweighs this, like, concocted, or you would say,
01:45focacca, Niner-Raider rivalry, which doesn't exist.
01:48No, but it's a football game and the Niners need to win it.
01:51There's all of that normal stuff.
01:52So is there some complacency and arrogance in this?
01:55I don't know, maybe.
01:56But anyway, to update what Grandy said a short time ago,
02:01we do now actually have some microphones that were a little bit closer to Drew Rosenhaus
02:06and Brandon Iyuk as they arrive at the 49er business office.
02:10You will hear the helicopters in the background.
02:12News Chopper 5 was up above watching what ended up being essentially less than a minute.
02:19Here is the opening statement.
02:21Drew Rosenhaus and Brandon Iyuk, they get out of a van, and the media is waiting.
02:25Here's Drew.
02:27Out of respect to you guys, we'll make this brief.
02:30Obviously, Brandon is here to meet with the team.
02:34Fortunately, he's feeling good.
02:36Physically, he's healthy.
02:38He's ready to get back to work.
02:40Don't really have any comment about where he's going to play.
02:45We'll keep that between us and the Niners.
02:49But obviously, we're here with all the right intentions.
02:52Okay, that's Drew Rosenhaus.
02:54He then hands the baton over to Brandon, who says this.
02:58Nice to see y'all.
03:00Yeah, I'm feeling great, feeling healthy.
03:03It's a long recovery process, a long rehab process, but I'm back to 100% and looking to get reinstated
03:10into National Football League.
03:11Okay, and then he goes on to give Cam Inman a little shoulder tap as he walks into the business
03:18office.
03:19That's it.
03:20And if you couldn't hear any part of that, I just want to read precisely what Brandon said.
03:26I quote, nice to see y'all.
03:29I'm feeling great, feeling healthy, long recovery process, long rehab process, but I'm back to 100% looking to get
03:37reinstated into the National Football League.
03:41Somebody did throw out some follow-up questions as the guys walked away.
03:47One of them was to Brandon with regard to, after he said reinstated to the NFL, he said something about,
03:56like, where might you play?
03:58And Brandon said the National Football League.
04:01Nice.
04:01Good answer.
04:02Good answer.
04:03And Drew Rosenhaus was asked about the outstanding warrants in Santa Clara, and Rosenhaus said, quote, we're working on that.
04:15So that is what took place today down in Santa Clara.
04:19It's funny in that I think all of this stuff sort of, it's obligatory, like it needed to happen,
04:27but a lot of people put a lot of effort into being there to get one minute from Kyle Shanahan
04:34and one minute from Drew Rosenhaus and Brandon Ayoub combined.
04:37And I get that, and it just takes me back to the nascent or early days of my career when
04:43Barry Bonds had an appearance at the federal courthouse in San Francisco,
04:48and it might have been Gary Radnich or Lee Hammer who thought that it was a good idea to send
04:54me out there to, quote, cover it.
04:57And so Barry's walking out of the courthouse, and I was doing exactly what those reporters were doing,
05:01and it's like throwing nonsensical, they won't be answered questions as I'm live on the air with Gary Radnich.
05:09And so that's kind of what this felt like where they give their statement, and then they're going in, and
05:14it's like,
05:14Brandon, Brandon, have you talked to Jaden Daniels?
05:17Are you going to be at Commanders?
05:19You know, all the, Brandon, will you play on Sunday, but for the Raiders?
05:24Like, you throw out all these stupid questions.
05:26I don't know.
05:26I'm hoping he's going to answer.
05:28He should join one of the teams like the Jaguars or the Panthers or any of those teams so that
05:34he could be a little cat.
05:36I like what you're doing here.
05:37That's what he should do.
05:39So we've got plenty of teams around the league.
05:42They're little cats, and he can be on one of them.
05:46Are those the only cats?
05:47Like, you've got the Jaguars and the Panthers.
05:50There's no Tigers out there.
05:51Well, the Bengals.
05:53Good call.
05:53Yeah, the Bengals are a little cat.
05:55He could be wide receiver six on that team.
05:57Just doing a quick sort of, we've got a lot of animals.
06:01A lot of birds.
06:01Yeah, a lot of birds.
06:03Oh, Lions.
06:05Detroit Lions.
06:06That's a big cat.
06:06That's not bad.
06:07That's not a little cat.
06:08It's a big cat.
06:10I think that's it for, I think that's it for the cat.
06:13For the cat family?
06:14Yeah.
06:14Yeah, he should have said a little bird.
06:16He would have more options.
06:17Exactly.
06:18You got seabirds, and you got, you know, falcons and eagles and whatnot, but I'm just fascinated by what's going
06:24on, and it's 3.09.
06:26The meeting was supposed to start at 3, and we always talk about being a fly on the wall, and
06:31honestly, if you're a fly on the wall, you could get swatted and your life could end.
06:34It's a dangerous place.
06:36It is dangerous, but to be a fly on the wall in that room where, you know, Brandon and Drew
06:41sit down, and it's John Lynch.
06:43Is it?
06:44Is it John Lynch?
06:45I would imagine it's John Lynch, yeah.
06:46Remember now, John Lynch is the general manager of the football team.
06:50Right.
06:51I actually don't, I don't know that John Lynch is there.
06:54This is a business office legal matter.
07:00Maybe he's there, but I would not be surprised at all if he's not,
07:04because as Kyle Shanahan pointed out, this has got nothing to do with our football team.
07:10This has to do with money and the league and lawyers and how do we moonwalk out of this whole
07:18situation,
07:19and do we moonwalk out of this situation?
07:21And by the way, the people in the room don't even necessarily have the ultimate power.
07:26That's an agent, a player, and one team.
07:28He is still on a did-not-report list for the whole league.
07:33The league is the one that submitted the note to Drew Rosenhaus that said,
07:38by the way, your new client owes the 49ers $13 million.
07:42I just think this is above the heads of the actual football team, and they want it that way.
07:47Yes, but at the same time, think about John Lynch as a human being,
07:51and as a Hall of Fame player, he was an unbelievably ferocious safety,
07:56and so if he's even in the room, arms folded, and like shooting glares and glances across the table,
08:04and you're probably right, it's like, you know, John Lynch is in the middle,
08:07and you've got four lawyers here, you've got the other four over here,
08:11you've got somebody furiously taking notes, and it's Drew Rosenhaus,
08:15it's Drew and Brandon across the table, sitting in maybe folding chairs,
08:19and if you're John Lynch, you're basically not going to say anything, you don't have to,
08:23because you made your career out of silently lighting people up.
08:27I mean, it's interesting.
08:28I mean, I think that, you know, they're going to handle it with maturity,
08:32but John Lynch was also called a predator in this process.
08:36If I'm John, if there's no reason for me to be there in this initial meeting,
08:40I'm not going to run over there and be there.
08:43Maybe. I really don't know.
08:44That was, if there were more questions to be asked,
08:48and maybe that would have been a good follow-up for Kyle when he's like,
08:51I have no idea what's going on over there, and I don't care.
08:54Maybe the, like, you know, are you going to be in the meeting?
08:56No, and I don't want to be.
08:58Well, who is?
09:00I'm super curious.
09:01Who's Brandon down there talking to?
09:04Yeah.
09:04I don't know.
09:05We don't know.
09:06Yeah.
09:07Not really given the opportunity to know.
09:09Well, and I just wonder how it begins where, you know,
09:12they sit down and it's, you know, hey, Brandon, good to see you.
09:16What's going on?
09:17What have you been doing?
09:17I mean, I don't know what the icebreaker is, and, you know,
09:20let's go around the room and, you know, say our name
09:23and say an animal that starts with the first letter,
09:25and I don't even know what that's like because basically, you know,
09:28it comes down to what do you want to do, Brandon and Drew,
09:32and if it's, you know, we kind of want to be out of here, then it's okay.
09:36Well, let's walk us through that because you owe us $13 million.
09:40Look, this is a multibillion-dollar organization.
09:43I'm sure they handle themselves with a little bit more decorum
09:46than all of us would.
09:48I'd be pulling that phone out, put it on selfie mode.
09:50I'd be like, smile, Brandon.
09:51I'm going to put this on Instagram.
09:54Right.
09:55Like if I were John.
09:56Like if you, I mean, he defamed them.
10:00Well, him.
10:00He did.
10:02So, like, one piece of this that I appreciate from the Niners
10:06and the way Kyle spoke today,
10:08and we'll play that again here in just a second
10:10if you didn't hear Kyle's press conference.
10:13One thing that sort of, and listen,
10:15I'll admit the personal nature of this.
10:17It's a little triggering for me.
10:19I think all of us have experienced, not all of us,
10:21a lot of us, unfortunately, have experienced this in your life.
10:24If you've ever been a part of any sort of a partnership, relationship, anything,
10:29where you've kind of been mistreated,
10:31I would hope that you arrive at a spot where you're ready to stand up and say,
10:36I'm not taking this from you anymore.
10:39And the 49ers, through social media posting, they were, and by the way,
10:45somebody just turning their backs on their teammates, they were kind of mistreated.
10:50So, this idea that a lot of people have had of, like, hey, we got some injured wide receivers.
10:55Come on back.
10:56It's like, ooh, that, it triggers me.
10:59No, no, no.
11:01You don't get to roll over us and then come back.
11:04So, like, I do like that the Niners today stood up, Kyle Shanahan did,
11:10and was like, this has got nothing to do with anything with this football team.
11:14And I do not care.
11:16And it's been over for a long time.
11:20Like, that's the way.
11:22You don't need to be rude.
11:24You don't need to dance on anybody.
11:26You know what I mean?
11:26You don't need to flaunt it.
11:28I'm not saying that.
11:29But, like, put up a boundary.
11:31The Niners need and have to put up a boundary.
11:35And a lot of people have called this radio station this week
11:38and have advocated knocking that boundary down.
11:43And I am against that.
11:45And so are the Niners.
11:47And I'm glad they are against that.
11:48That is not the way to go.
11:50It depends on what happens and whether or not it's a non-negotiable.
11:54And for some reason, I was thinking about Lisa Left Eye Lopez, rest in peace,
11:58when she burned Andre Risen's house to the ground,
12:01if she would have gone back to Andre Risen and said,
12:04sorry about that, didn't mean to burn down your house.
12:07Well, you burned my house down.
12:09We're not going to be able to walk back from that one.
12:12I'm not saying that Ayuk burned down the house,
12:14but I just wonder when he and Drew go in that room for the meeting,
12:18what's their approach?
12:19Because, you know, the Niners could just sit there and say,
12:22hey, you know, I'm glad you guys came.
12:24Did you bring the $13 million with us?
12:26Because we're going to want to recoup that bonus.
12:28So, I mean, do you want our Venmo?
12:30Yeah.
12:31You can Venmo us.
12:33What is the max you can Venmo?
12:35It's less than $13 million.
12:36Okay, that's what I want to think.
12:38Yep.
12:39Unless you're Shohei, and it just shows up without a text.
12:41Well, he had access, so he didn't need it.
12:45Routing number.
12:46I just, every 49er fan, I get it.
12:50I get it.
12:51Everybody wants to win a Super Bowl.
12:53Imagine you're the head coach of the San Francisco 49ers.
12:57You almost lost an eye in a car accident in the offseason,
13:01and one of your former players who turned his back on you and the teammates
13:08goes to Instagram after your car accident and makes fun of you.
13:14Imagine.
13:15So, what would you do if that player then was like, no, no, no, now I'm ready to play.
13:22What would you do?
13:24Like, that's my question.
13:26I know that we all want a Super Bowl, and Mike Evans has got tendinitis.
13:30I understand.
13:32But, like, what would you, like, try, that's what, try to put yourself in their position.
13:39You almost lost your eye, and as soon as the news came out, this guy went to Instagram
13:45to make fun of you.
13:48Like, you sat there.
13:49You had broken ribs.
13:50You were concussed.
13:51You were wearing sunglasses.
13:54You could not function in your job for the time being.
13:57There's another driver involved that I imagine was hurt on some level as well.
14:01This was an incredibly serious, dangerous moment.
14:04And this person went to Instagram to make fun of you.
14:08And you're going to have him, like, just come back and play football for you on a 6-1 team?
14:14Well, if he's really good, then you could tolerate it more.
14:17But, honestly, you know that the NFL is a zero-sum game, but you don't know how good he can
14:22be
14:23or how healthy he is.
14:24So, on the way in, Drew Rosenhaus, the super agent, and Brandon and I, you basically talk,
14:28and Drew says, yeah, he's 100% healthy and he's ready to go.
14:31So, okay, and if the Niners want to take that at his word, well, there's the physical
14:36and there's all the things that they would have to put him through
14:39before they either trade him or cut him.
14:41So, that's all a part of it.
14:42But I just wonder about the opening conversation, how much of it is, you know,
14:47acrimonious versus, like, you know, here's what we're thinking.
14:51Let's go back to the phones after we let you hear the one minute of Kyle Shanahan today
14:57with regard to Brandon Ayuk.
14:59Kyle, there's buzz about Brandon Ayuk and Drew Rosenhaus coming and going to the business
15:05offices, meeting with team officials.
15:07Ayuk, well, will you have any role in that?
15:10No.
15:11I'm going to talk about Ayuk.
15:13What's going to happen today?
15:14What's that?
15:15I'm going to talk about Ayuk.
15:17What's going to happen today?
15:18No clue.
15:18Your guess is as good as mine.
15:20What would you like to see happen?
15:22I could care less.
15:24Is there an incentive for you guys to, you know, kind of have this thing just be over
15:29as quickly as possible, just with all the noise that's going around with it?
15:33It's been over for our football team for a long time, so I don't hear much except
15:37questions about them today.
15:39But it's not too big of a deal for me to answer.
15:41Is it your understanding that if he comes off the reserve list, that he goes automatically
15:48onto the active list, and that you guys would have to make a transaction to accommodate that?
15:54I'd have to ask a lot of questions to get that answer.
15:57I think it's complicated, so I haven't asked one question.
16:01So I look at this as zero to do with our football team.
16:05Anything that has zero to do with our football team, especially during the season, I will
16:09give zero thoughts to.
16:10But doesn't it affect your roster?
16:12That affects your football team?
16:14I'm sure if it did, people would be letting me know.
16:17Okay, so that's Kyle Shanahan upon arrival down the street at the business office through
16:22Rosenhaus.
16:23Out of respect to you guys, we'll make this brief.
16:27Obviously, Brandon is here to meet with your team.
16:30Fortunately, he's feeling good physically.
16:33He's healthy.
16:34He's ready to get back to work.
16:36I don't really have any comment about where he's going to play.
16:41We'll keep that between us and the Niners.
16:45But obviously, we're here with all the right intentions.
16:49Okay, that's agent Drew Rosenhaus.
16:51And then he hands the baton over to Brandon.
16:54Nice to see y'all.
16:56Yeah, I'm feeling great, feeling healthy.
17:00It's a long recovery process, a long rehab process.
17:03But I'm back to 100% and looking to get reinstated to National Football League.
17:07All right, so that's the sum total of commentary from Kyle Shanahan, Drew Rosenhaus, and Brandon
17:13Ayuk.
17:14We're taking your calls, 888-957-957.
17:17Let's go to Adam in Oakland.
17:18Hi, Adam.
17:19Thank you for checking in, man.
17:22It's pronounced Adam Willard.
17:24That's why I said Adam.
17:25Yeah.
17:25I just want to say this whole thing reeks of CTE.
17:29Okay?
17:29The guy's having issues.
17:31And, you know, I think the Niners, if they come to an agreement, this is business.
17:37They should let him back.
17:40I don't know.
17:41Okay, there's so many questions with your statement.
17:44I didn't get that right.
17:45Your name's Adam, right?
17:46Which is...
17:47What is it?
17:48Yeah.
17:48Yeah, we welcome you.
17:49I just don't know if you can diagnose CTE through a sports talk radio call.
17:54That feels to me like a little bit of a leap.
17:56I'm a radio doctor who takes leaps.
17:58That one feels like, you know, Jackie Joyner-Cersey in the heptathlon.
18:03I mean, Adam, like, with all due respect, like, are you being genuine or are you just
18:09trying to, like, kind of have some playfulness here on the radio?
18:12I'm serious.
18:13He's having mental issues.
18:14He's having mental issues.
18:15So you want him back.
18:16He's crashing out on Instagram.
18:17So he's having mental issues, so you want him back.
18:21He's a great player.
18:23Got it.
18:24Boy, you...
18:25You know what?
18:26You run your stuff...
18:29Raiders!
18:30Ah, there it is.
18:31There it is.
18:31There it is.
18:31And he walked us off.
18:32There you go.
18:32Thanks, Adam.
18:34Right.
18:34I mean...
18:35The idea of he's a great player, I think that you can close your eyes and go in the wayback
18:41machine and think about when he was a great player.
18:43And, well, was it last year when he got hurt?
18:46He was not, at that point, a great player.
18:48Maybe it's because you didn't have a great offense and you were struggling, but it wasn't like
18:52he was Jackson Smith in Jigba the year before that?
18:56Yes, he was a great player, but now we're going back 24 months.
18:59So is he still a great player?
19:00We have no idea.
19:02I mean, this is a story that is as old as time, though.
19:06There are a lot of people who are great players in their given sport.
19:10And then they find themselves to become unsignable or just they've killed a relationship.
19:21It could be directly with the team.
19:23It could be with the world.
19:25Do you know what I mean?
19:26Ray Rice was a great player.
19:28Why weren't all the teams lined up to grab him?
19:32And before you get freaked out, I'm not comparing what Ray Rice did to what Brandon Ayuk did at all.
19:40But what I am saying is, it's fascinating to me how many people, in the name of chasing a ring,
19:49are just like, you need to throw everything that is either moral or emotional or anything else,
19:57personal, thank you, out the window in the name of winning.
20:03I don't look at it that way.
20:05If you do, good on you.
20:06But the other fallacy with all of that is you're making a wild assumption that Brandon Ayuk just comes back
20:14and is immediately the exact same player.
20:17That is a bananas assumption, in fact, that is unprecedented because I've never in my life of watching sports
20:25watch someone take two and a half years off from a league,
20:30also go through major rehab, and then walk onto the field and pick up right where they left off.
20:37That's not a thing.
20:38Think about Aaron Donald this year.
20:40So, ooh, Aaron Donald, he's going to come back and be a Rams,
20:43and even though they were kind of slow playing it like it wasn't going to happen,
20:46well, he came back and he played football and he has been injured,
20:50and he has not been the same Aaron Donald.
20:52I don't think he took two and a half years off,
20:54and Ayuk really missed a year and a half, whatever.
20:57I'm splitting hairs here, but you're right.
20:59The injury was over two years ago.
21:01It was midway through the 2024 year, and so he missed half that year,
21:05and he missed the other year, and so it's basically been two years of football.
21:09So can he come back and be good?
21:11Yeah, but it's less likely that he is good than it is that he's not good.
21:15That's more likely.
21:189-2-5, wasn't Drew Rosenhaus the agent talking to the camera
21:21when T.O. was doing sit-ups in the driveway?
21:24Yes.
21:26Yeah?
21:26Yes.
21:27Yes, that's true.
21:28He is an unbelievable agent, and he's also one to not shy away from theatrics?
21:33That's true.
21:34He's also, though, and I'd have to look at his entire roster,
21:37he's kind of become the PR recovery agent.
21:42It's a little bit of his specialty.
21:43When things go sideways, you hire Drew, see if he can get back in the league.
21:49T.O. had that.
21:50He's Tyreek Hill's agent.
21:52I noticed that Tyreek's not on a team yet.
21:56So that's a little bit of who, I'm sure he's got plenty of clients,
22:01but that's kind of become Drew's thing, if you will.
