00:00What do you think is wrong with the Rams, coach?
00:03You know, that's a hard, hard question because he's a terrific coach.
00:06I think the world of him, but there's something wrong there.
00:09And usually there's something going on in the locker room.
00:12The locker room, Tony LaRussa and I used to talk about this all the time.
00:16The most important aspect of any team is the locker room.
00:19And a lot of problems get solved without you knowing it when you have a real strong locker room.
00:24And then you know that.
00:25And you've got a good locker room like that.
00:26But I don't know what's going on, but they're just not playing up to snuff.
00:30The other thing that's missing with them is they just don't have any explosives down the field in the passing
00:35game.
00:36They just don't have it.
00:36And they've got this great quarterback.
00:38But there's something going on.
00:40I don't know what it is.
00:42You know, I'm befuddled when I look at them.
00:44I know they're doing good stuff, but they just don't score points.
00:48They don't get the ball down the field.
00:49They're just kind of in a day, so to speak.
00:51And I don't know why.
00:53Coach, I'm going to throw this at you.
00:55You tell me, too many mercenaries on a team?
00:58And what I mean by that is you've got all these stars, and you don't really have guys that go
01:03back and look how the New England Patriots were built with Belichick.
01:06Those were all dudes that Bill picked personally.
01:09Put them on the roster.
01:10And you look at the superstars on that team.
01:13There weren't really Edelman, Amendola.
01:15I mean, those guys were just guys that Bill picked.
01:19And then you look at the guys like the Colts.
01:21They had Reggie Wayne.
01:23They had Marvin Harrison.
01:24They had all those players.
01:25And yet sometimes when you look at the mercenaries that you bring in, these guys are all on an island
01:30by themselves.
01:31You know, they're not homegrown guys.
01:33Could that be affecting the locker room a little bit, too, that guys are just in there?
01:37I mean, you bring in a guy from Kansas City.
01:39You bring in Miles Garrett.
01:41You bring in all these other guys.
01:43Are you really a team?
01:46Well, that's why I was talking about the locker room.
01:48I think you hit the nail on the head.
01:49Absolutely.
01:50And I think what it becomes is a bunch of independent contractors.
01:53And I think when you look at the Cowboys over the years, they've had all this talent for a number
01:58of years.
01:59There was like a two or three-year stretch here every now and then where they'd be very talented.
02:02They couldn't win.
02:03And it's that independent contractor mentality.
02:06There's just a lack of leadership there in the locker room.
02:09And it's really difficult to deal with.
02:11You know, when I was at the Rams, we had that crew, those great receivers.
02:15You never heard those guys promote themselves ever about anything.
02:19You never saw their face actually in commercials.
02:22And they didn't do any of that stuff.
02:24You know, at the core of every great team, I don't care what sport it is, every great team is
02:29unselfishness.
02:30You know, they play for each other, and they get excited about each other's success on the field, and they
02:35don't toot their own horn.
02:36And, you know, I guess that's old school, but at the heart of it, that's where the real satisfaction, when
02:42you win, you win it, you enjoy it with your buddies that you're playing with, your brother, so to speak.
02:47And, you know, when you don't have that camaraderie, it's hard to compete at the highest level because you've got
02:53different pistons firing at different times, you know.
02:56And it's just – that's why I say the locker room may be a problem because I just don't see
03:00the leadership and the fire in there.
03:02They just don't have that pizzazz that you like to see out of really good football teams.
03:07Coach, I'll say it to your face, and I think I've said it to you before.
03:09I think you're one of the great play designers and one of the great offensive coordinating minds that the game
03:15has ever had.
03:16Oh, thank you, Dad. I appreciate that.
03:18And, you know, I go to Dallas, and I see Brian Schottenheimer.
03:21I get the last name, and I loved his dad, Marty.
03:23But, you know, he self-proclaimed himself as being a great play designer, a great play caller.
03:29And, Coach, I'm still waiting to see this.
03:31I mean, I really – I mean, I just don't see it.
03:35Do you think I'm wrong when I'm making the comment?
03:39I think that what they do is good.
03:40I think they do a lot of good stuff.
03:42Great – I don't know if it's great, but it's good enough.
03:45I think the toughness and lack of discipline isn't there.
03:50And it's just like we're talking about that incident in practice, the receivers not run full speed.
03:55You know, I've seen their receivers sometimes during games cut out.
03:59I can't imagine that happening in the NFL.
04:01A guy just choking it down because he didn't think he was getting the ball.
04:04And you see that with them a little bit.
04:06But their biggest issue is all on the other side of the ball.
04:08I mean, they're good enough on offense to be a decent team.
04:10But, man, I tell you, defensively, they're a disaster.
