AccuWeather meteorologists say conditions will dry out through the weekend after more wet weather impacts the region on Friday.
Transcript
00:00 Well, it's no secret we've seen a
00:02 tremendous amount of rain in the
00:04 Northeast and Mid Atlantic,
00:05 but I wanted to put this into numbers for you.
00:08 Take a look, for example,
00:10 at Montgomery, New York.
00:11 Since June 21st,
00:12 we've seen nearly 14 and a half inches
00:14 of rain where the historical average
00:16 for this time stretch is just about
00:18 3 1/2 inches. We are more than double
00:20 the historical amount of rainfall in so
00:22 many cities across this part of the country.
00:25 We just keep being hit with wave
00:27 after wave of storms and soaking
00:29 rainfall and unfortunately we will
00:30 see more of that today and tonight.
00:32 You can see the area where most
00:34 concerned about for flooding and
00:36 flash flooding in the deep forest.
00:38 Green looking from Southern Canada,
00:39 Quebec and Montreal all the way
00:41 back toward Burlington, Vermont,
00:42 Albany, New York, Worcester,
00:43 Massachusetts,
00:44 back down to North Jersey as well.
00:46 Just stretching into the Pocono
00:47 Mountains we could see some flash
00:49 flooding even in the areas in the
00:51 lighter color green towards Syracuse
00:53 and Scranton there is a concern for
00:55 more isolated flooding as well.
00:56 With slow moving thunderstorms,
00:58 some of these storms could even be
01:00 strong to severe today and tonight,
01:02 so please make sure you're staying
01:03 weather aware here for the flooding
01:05 downpours, but also we can't rule
01:07 out an isolated tornado and damaging
01:09 gusty winds into this part of the
01:11 country here stretching from New York
01:13 City up toward Albany back into
01:14 central and western Massachusetts
01:16 toward Chicopee and North Adams.
01:17 Even looking into western Connecticut,
01:19 stretching all the way back through
01:20 the Adirondacks and the Green
01:22 Mountains of Vermont,
01:23 even stretching through New Hampshire as well.
01:25 Let's time out these storms here
01:27 and you will see more of those
01:29 little dots on the screen with
01:30 future satellite and radar as we
01:32 push through the afternoon here.
01:34 234 o'clock there goes that line
01:35 from Philadelphia up to New York
01:37 back through again central New
01:39 England here and it's the rounds
01:40 of rain that are going to cause
01:42 the flooding problems in New England.
01:44 You can see we lose a few storms in
01:46 the area and then we gain a few
01:48 more as the clock ticks onward.
01:50 678 o'clock.
01:50 I know it's a Friday and a lot of
01:53 people have dinner plans.
01:54 Maybe you're going to see a movie tonight.
01:56 Make sure that the Accuweather
01:58 app is part of your plans.
01:59 Check on the app before you leave the house.
02:01 The last thing you want to be doing
02:03 is driving away from the house
02:05 and in towards severe weather.
02:06 As we move into the late night,
02:08 the storm starts to push to the east
02:10 and we lose some of our thunderstorms.
02:11 We're also losing the heat,
02:13 which means we're losing fuel for the storm.
02:14 So good news as we get into late
02:16 Friday early Saturday morning.
02:17 But look, I love giving good news,
02:19 so I'm going to give you more
02:20 of it as we head to the weekend.
02:22 Still a spotty thunderstorm or two in
02:24 Maine as we move into the first half
02:26 of the day, a shower or two as well.
02:28 In the Adirondacks and northern
02:30 Vermont and New Hampshire,
02:31 but a large part of the Northeast,
02:33 the Ohio Valley and the Mid Atlantic.
02:34 We are drier, we are sunnier,
02:36 and my gosh, we are less humid.
02:38 It's actually some good weather
02:39 as we start the weekend.
02:41 Boston,
02:41 we could squeak out a thunderstorm,
02:43 but it's not going to be dawn to dusk rainfall,
02:45 so you can still keep your outdoor plans.
02:48 Just again,
02:48 check the weather before you
02:50 spend the day outside New York,
02:51 Philly and Washington DC.
02:53 Plenty of sunshine.
02:53 No concern in terms of storms.
02:55 We have temperatures in the 80s and
02:57 again the humidity stays low.
02:58 Heading into Sunday we gain a
03:00 little bit of humidity back.
03:01 He'll feel a little more moisture
03:03 in the air in cities like Columbus,
03:05 Ohio, even toward Charleston, West Virginia.
03:06 You'll notice more of the same stretching
03:08 across the Delmarva Peninsula heading
03:10 out toward Washington DC, Baltimore,
03:11 and then again up toward New York City.
03:13 But even Sunday we stay largely dry.
03:15 We could squeak out a shower in New York,
03:17 but again,
03:17 it's one of those situations where
03:19 you're not going to see rain all day.
03:21 Just have the umbrella on hand
03:22 if you really hate getting wet.
03:24 Otherwise you'll be good to go.
03:26 Philly 89 degrees and sunny on Sunday,
03:28 81 in Pittsburgh and 80 degrees
03:29 in Buffalo, New York.
03:31 Enjoy the sunshine.
