00:00Many spots here seeing light rain, but there are some peskier thunderstorms moving into places around
00:06Alamogordo and other spots in southern New Mexico.
00:08Also, storms between Midland and Odessa and Lubbock beginning to flare up there.
00:13So here they are, a little more lift in the atmosphere, getting a little noisier with some thunderstorms there.
00:19Other areas to the east soaking rain, a steady rain, less lightning,
00:23but steady rain falling across much of central Texas and moving into the Dallas area too.
00:28So tropical moisture is fueling this flash flood threat.
00:32A fast-moving storm system is bringing drenching thunderstorms and rain.
00:35Flash flood threat will be impacting much of the Lone Star State.
00:39Currently, it's tropical depression advance that is a secondary contributor to this,
00:44but the bulk of the moisture is coming directly from the Gulf,
00:46the western part of the Gulf, feeding the moisture into the region.
00:49And overall, this is going to be painful with flash flooding and interruptions to your holiday plans,
00:54Halloween trick-or-treating impacted, but it is reducing the drought.
00:58So there's a little bit of good news in this.
01:00And again, Vance is helping to pump some moisture northward.
01:04Some of it's coming from the Gulf, but some of this has been fed into the atmosphere by Vance.
01:08Plumes of moisture getting sheared into the mid-levels of the atmosphere up into Texas.
01:13It is a tropical depression right now, by the way.
01:15Latest stats here.
01:16Max sustained winds back down to 35 miles per hour.
01:19Moving north at 7, really when I track the low-level swirl, probably more north-northeast,
01:24if not almost northeast, at least visually that appears to be the heading that this low-level,
01:30there's the low-level circulation, but it's flaring up some deep convection as well.
01:33So we're watching this one, and it's going to become not just a tropical depression,
01:37but stepping down to a rainstorm and sending some heavy rain ultimately into Mexico,
01:42but in a secondary way, it's pumping some additional moisture into west Texas.
01:47Friday, a very stormy day.
01:49They're plotting it as a tropical rainstorm over western Mexico,
01:52and the wind will be down at this point.
01:55But overall, soaking rain continues, and again, some contributions from Vance
02:00coming in from the Baja California Peninsula.
02:02We have some soaking rain in west Texas, the moisture from the Gulf,
02:05all working together to bring us a soaker of a setup here in the southern plains and into west Texas.
02:11And here is that 4-8-inch zone, small zone of 4-plus inches, including Del Rio.
02:16So we're really concerned about that.
02:17But Abilene, 2-4 inches, 1-2 into Amarillo, and areas around well west of Dallas, Fort Worth.
02:23It may be out near Weatherford, Texas.
02:26Showers, thunderstorms push east into other areas on Saturday as areas to the west dry out.
02:30Here's an updated look at that Arizona-Texas Tech forecast.
02:33Cooler, drier, mid-60s.
02:35Other areas will have to face some thunderstorms on Halloween, so be careful.
02:40Lightning safety is key.
02:41I'm going to use the weather.
