00:00 Now relief organizations are mobilizing
00:02 to get help to those impacted by the Hawaiian fires.
00:07 Now Samaritan's Purse is a Christian humanitarian aid group
00:10 that is helping on the ground.
00:13 On that note, Jason Kimak is Senior Director
00:15 of North American Ministries for Samaritan's Purse.
00:18 Jason, thank you so much for joining us this morning.
00:21 I imagine you're very busy
00:22 and we appreciate you being here.
00:25 Good morning, Justin and Christina.
00:26 I appreciate the time.
00:27 Of course.
00:28 First, I'd love to ask you, what are you hearing
00:31 from your teams that are on the ground right now in Hawaii?
00:34 The situation on the ground is really grim.
00:39 As you reported, there's over a hundred people who've died
00:42 and I'm sure they're gonna find many more bodies.
00:45 A lot of the families are being asked to try to come
00:48 and recognize and identify them
00:51 and they're not able to do it.
00:53 They're having to use DNA tests
00:54 to try to find who these people are.
00:57 Most people have lost everything.
00:59 Their businesses are gone
01:01 and it's a really hopeless situation.
01:03 Jason, thank you so much
01:05 for all that your organization is doing.
01:08 What unique challenges are you finding in this disaster
01:11 for getting food and help to those in need right now?
01:15 Well, at the moment, as you reported,
01:18 that they are still closed off
01:21 and they're still searching for more people.
01:24 So we're not in the area yet,
01:27 but what we do, we have sent a DC-8 cargo plane
01:30 full of supplies and equipment.
01:33 And so we have volunteers also that are on the ground
01:36 with our staff and they're there to help sift.
01:40 And when we can get in,
01:41 we're gonna help people with sifting
01:44 and to help find areas that may have things
01:46 that they've lost.
01:48 Wow, so you're going to be able to truly make an impact
01:50 on the people in need.
01:52 As Justin mentioned,
01:53 we really appreciate you doing this.
01:54 As you mentioned, the situation is just dire right now.
01:57 And I have to ask,
01:58 because I know there are people listening who want to help.
02:02 I know there are people seeing these videos
02:04 and their hearts are breaking.
02:05 Is there any way that we and our viewers
02:08 can help Samaritan's Purse?
02:09 What do you need in order to help the people of Hawaii?
02:14 Well, I'd also say we have Billy Graham chaplains
02:16 on the ground from Billy Graham Evangelistic Association,
02:18 and they're there with the families
02:20 and they are praying with them, spending time with them.
02:23 And what I'd ask your viewers today is to pray.
02:25 Pray for those families, pray for emergency management,
02:29 pray for the local government.
02:31 And if you want to see how you can help out more,
02:34 please go to SamaritansPurse.org.
02:36 Jason Kivak, senior director
02:39 of North American Ministries at Samaritan's Purse.
02:43 Thank you again so much for joining us here this morning.
02:46 Thanks for having me.
