00:00 Hello, welcome to From the South, I am Heidi Maurel from the Telesur studios in Havana,
00:14 Cuba.
00:15 We'll be with the news, stay with us.
00:26 The 15th Summit of the BRICS Group started on Tuesday in Johannesburg, South Africa,
00:31 and will conclude on August 24th.
00:34 The day began with a business forum with the participation of ministers from the participating
00:38 countries.
00:39 Later, the leaders of the organizations led by Brazil, Russia, India, China and South
00:45 Africa made their speeches before meeting behind closed doors.
00:49 34 heads of state and governments from Africa and Asia, as well as Latin America, are expected
00:54 to participate in the summit.
00:57 To date, 24 countries have formally expressed their interest in joining the BRICS.
01:02 The summit will address issues such as the dollarization and the entry of new members
01:07 of the bloc and the creation of a new common currency of their own.
01:16 The President of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, denounced the intention of the far right to
01:24 sow hatred in the country and continued the destabilization attempts.
01:29 The head of state warned about new attempts to destabilize the country and gave instructions
01:34 to strengthen the country's security.
01:37 At the same time, he reiterated his support to Venezuelan migrants, for which he confirmed
01:42 an oncoming world conference on migration, where he will demand international organizations
01:48 to respect the human rights of migrants.
01:50 Likewise, he ordered the restructuring of all the state media in order to update them
01:55 according to national and global needs.
01:58 Finally, he made a call to all the population to support the institutions and protect the
02:03 country from destabilization attempts.
02:11 Hatred and division are being sown because extreme right-wing sectors are leading the
02:16 country once again to the Guarimbas, once again to division, once again to hatred, once
02:23 again to the attempted coup d'état, to call for military intervention by the US imperialism
02:30 on our country.
02:31 It was not enough for them to impose 900 sanctions on Venezuela.
02:36 It is the same sector, the same group, by confession of parts, rely on evidence.
02:42 Here's the statement.
02:43 It cannot be clearer.
02:45 Today, the prosecutor of the Republic, Tarek William Saab, gave some statements.
02:51 He acted fast, on time, and we must accompany and support to everything the institutions
02:58 so that justice is done in Venezuela.

03:33 Welcome back to From the South.
03:35 After three years, the first international flight from North Korea landed in Beijing,
03:39 China's capital.
03:40 Air Koryo flight is estimated to have arrived at Beijing Capital Airport at around 9.17
03:48 a.m. local time on Tuesday.
03:50 It is officially the first commercial flight on the North Korea state-owned airline since
03:55 early 2020, after North Korea closed its borders in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
04:01 The Chinese foreign ministry had announced on Monday the reactivation of the passenger
04:05 A route between Beijing and Pyongyang operated by Air Koryo.
04:10 Although, the first flight between the two capitals had been cancelled.
04:19 In Thailand, the Bikamera Parliament started a session for the selection of the country's
04:23 next prime minister.
04:24 Sreta Thavishin is the only candidate in the session after being nominated for the position
04:30 by the Puhu Thai Party, the runner-up in the elections and the leader of the Broad Coalition.
04:36 The 500 members of the House of Representatives elected last May and the 249 senators had
04:44 been picked in 2019 by the defunct military junta, are scheduled to debate the candidates
04:50 sustainably for a few hours before voting.
04:53 To be elected prime minister, Sreta needs to reach at least 375 votes during the process
05:00 and therefore requires the backing of at least 61 senators or elected members of the House
05:06 of Representatives.
05:12 In this context, on Monday, Zimbabwe's largest opposition party, the Citizens for the Change
05:18 Coalition, held its campaign's closing ceremony in the capital.
05:23 Harare, more than 10,000 people, many of them dressed in bright yellow, gathered to provide
05:29 the last sign of support for the opposition leader before the elections.
05:33 The demonstration was the end of the Thaw campaign, in which a dozen campaign meetings
05:38 of candidate Nelson Chamisa were banned and some of the supporters were attacked by alleged
05:44 activities of Thanu PF, the ruling party.
05:47 In his speech, Chamisa assured that he will be victorious and that it is the only guarantee
05:53 for a better future, although the latter's polls show him below his opponent.
06:00 "Go and vote for your future.
06:11 Go and vote for opportunity.
06:14 Go and vote for happiness.
06:17 Go and vote for light.
06:22 We are going to have a president for everyone.
06:26 We are going to have a government for everyone.
06:29 We are going to have an economy for everyone.
06:33 We are going to make Zimbabwe to be a Zimbabwe for everyone."
