Harold will raise the risk of flash flooding in parts of Texas through the middle part of the week.
Transcript
00:00 Well it's the first landfalling storm of the season earlier today just south of Beth and Bay and north of Ports Mansfield in Texas.
00:09 All of this by the way occurring underneath our huge upper level high.
00:15 Look at the strength of this upper high you could see it on satellite.
00:18 And when it comes to the tropics if you have a strong high you always look underneath the belly of the upper high for tropical development.
00:24 That's exactly what happened.
00:25 This system Harold coming right across the Gulf of Mexico but I'll tell you what it was tightening too.
00:30 It was getting stronger as they typically do right before landfall in southeast Texas.
00:34 It ran out of time otherwise we could be looking at a much stronger storm.
00:38 Now it continues to weaken.
00:40 Big story is going to be the rainfall.
00:41 And also take a look at this.
00:43 You get these inflow channels here along the eastern and northern side of the storm.
00:49 Watch that area as we go forward here.
00:51 Those inflow channels they can produce isolated tornadoes and you're also going to get a very thin band of flash flooding.
00:59 Heaviest rain will be in the middle and upper part of the Rio Grande Valley here as our storm continues to move south.
01:05 South side of San Antonio certainly getting some showers and thunderstorms.
01:09 We could be looking at flash flooding just on the south side there.
01:12 The rain will continue to move west.
01:14 And by the way we'll track Harold's moisture into the southwest tomorrow into tomorrow night.
01:20 So Wednesday, Wednesday and that's going to increase the amount of showers and thunderstorms across the four corners.
01:25 Rain is going to be the big problem here.
01:27 At least a couple of inches rain, some flash flooding.
01:29 Now this whole area has been parched so far this summer.
01:33 So this will be much needed rain but it will come with a price.
01:36 And that's isolated flooding.
01:39 We have an AccuWeather local storm X by the way in some of these higher terrains here south of Del Rio of over a foot of rain.
01:45 By the way all this rain in north central Mexico does flow into the Rio Grande River as well.
01:51 So overall this is going to be a benefit for the area but there will be some flash flooding.
