00:00 In Palestine, Israel's ongoing sharing of civilian structures continues, helping to
00:14 register 4,460 Palestinians killed in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.
00:22 In Honduras, the government promotes a draft law on land titling and governance, which
00:28 aims to recognize and protect the rights of indigenous and Afro-Honduran peoples' territories.
00:36 In Kenya, Angolan President Yolo Renzo is on a two-day state visit to strengthen bilateral
00:40 ties between the two countries.
00:46 Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Luis Alberto Matos from Adelazú Studios in
00:50 Havana, Cuba.
00:51 We begin with the news.
00:52 In Palestine, the Israeli siege continues.
01:06 To date, more than 4,460 Palestinians have been killed in the Gaza Strip and the West
01:11 Bank.
01:12 The Palestinian Health Ministry reported that 4,385 people died in the Gaza Strip and more
01:18 than 14,000 injured since the beginning of the aggravation on October 7.
01:24 Meanwhile in the West Bank, Israeli forces killed 84 Palestinians and wounded more than
01:29 1,400.
01:30 Seventy percent of the dead are children, women and the elderly.
01:34 The Health Ministry warned that these figures could multiply in the coming hours as the
01:38 relentless Israeli attacks continue and as bodies are pulled from under the rubble of
01:44 their destroyed homes.
01:45 According to local media, during the ongoing bombardment of the Gaza Strip, the Israeli
01:58 occupying forces completely destroyed more than 14,000 homes, while another 133,370 were
02:06 partially damaged, including 10,127 which are no longer fit for living.
02:12 The destruction of 5,500 residential buildings, including 14,200 apartments, was also reported.
02:19 Among the affected infrastructure are also dozens of service facilities and 160 schools.
02:24 Also the number of mosques completely destroyed by the occupation amounted to more than 17.
02:33 On early Saturday, at least 30 people, including three children, were killed in Israeli bombings.
02:38 Local sources say that the bombings targeted several areas in Rafah, south of the Gaza
02:41 Strip.
02:42 Also in Rafah, six members of the civil defense team were seriously wounded as a result of
02:46 Israeli shelling on a civil defense headquarters.
02:54 On Saturday, the Rafah crossing, the border crossing between Gaza and Egypt through which
02:58 humanitarian aid can be delivered to the Israeli-occupied Palestinian enclave, was opened.
03:03 Some 20 trucks carrying food and medical supplies, among other cargo, began passing through the
03:07 crossing.
03:08 The humanitarian aid will be handed over to representatives of the Egyptian Red Crescent
03:12 for distribution to civilians in the Gaza Strip affected by the Israeli bombardment.
03:17 However, CNN correspondent on the Egyptian side of the border said the Rafah crossing
03:21 was closed shortly after the 20 vehicles filled with humanitarian aid for Palestinian civilians
03:26 passed through.
03:27 Egypt's President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi said his country did not close the crossing but
03:32 that the Israeli shelling hindered the entry of aid into Gaza.
03:35 At the same time, Al-Arabiya sources reported that Egyptian-U.S. coordination is underway
03:42 to evacuate foreign nationals from Gaza to Egypt through Rafah.
03:51 The Peace Summit, a forum for world leaders to discuss a way out of the Palestinian-Israeli
03:54 conflict opened in Egypt.
03:56 With the presence of more than 20 countries and international organizations, the Gaza
04:00 Peace Summit, organized by the Egyptian government, started this Saturday.
04:03 Two weeks after the beginning of this new conflict in the Gaza Strip, the international
04:07 community is trying to prevent the situation from spreading to the rest of the Middle East.
04:12 Although the meeting is attended by the Palestinian President and other Arab leaders, it is worth
04:16 noting the absence of Israeli representatives at the summit, which aims to achieve a ceasefire.
04:28 Egypt affirms and reiterates its complete rejection of the forced displacement of Palestinians
04:36 and their exodus to the Egyptian territories in Sinai, as this is nothing but a final liquidation
04:44 of the Palestinian issue, an end to the dream of an independent Palestinian state, and the
04:51 eradication of the struggle of the Palestinian people and the Arab and Islamic people.
04:58 UN Secretary-General António Guterres called for action to end the ongoing conflict during
05:03 the International Peace Summit in Cairo.
05:06 The time has come for action, action to end this God-awful nightmare, and action to build
05:14 a future worthy of the dreams of the children of Palestine, Israel, the region, and our
05:20 world.
05:21 Meanwhile, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas warned against displacing Palestinians from
05:26 Gaza, West Bank, and Jerusalem.
05:30 We warn against attempts to displace our people from Gaza to elsewhere.
05:37 We also warn against any expulsion of Palestinians from their homes or displacement from Jerusalem
05:44 or the West Bank.
05:45 We will not accept displacement and we will remain steadfast on our land, no matter what
05:52 the challenge is.
05:54 In India, despite a police ban on rallies in support of Palestine, hundreds of people
05:58 gathered on Friday night in different cities to express their solidarity with the people
06:02 of Gaza, who have been suffering from the relentless Israeli airstrikes for more than
06:06 10 days.
06:07 In Mumbai, Kerala, Bangalore, the Indian people continue to demonstrate their support for
06:13 the Palestinians in one of the displays in South Chennai.
06:17 G. Ramar Krishan, member of the political bureau of the CPI, condemned Israel's brutality
06:22 against the Palestinians in the occupied territories.
06:25 India's Muslim community, the second largest in the world with over 200 million followers,
06:29 dedicated its fasting and prayer day on Friday to solidarity with its brothers under siege
06:34 by the Zionist regime of Benjamin Netanyahu.
06:37 In Mumbai, the day before, Muslim organizations held a congregation of solidarity with Palestine
06:42 and later, a crowd of followers of the Prophet Mohammed gathered in Islam Ghimkhana, one
06:48 of the most prominent avenues to demonstrate their rejection of the Zionist actions.
06:58 Australia also held demonstrations in support of the Palestinian resistance.
07:02 The mobilization took place this Saturday and was attended by thousands of people who
07:06 marched through the streets of Sydney from the City Hall.
07:09 The event was attended by both Australian sympathizers and Palestinian migrants residing
07:14 in the country.
07:15 During the march, the protesters denounced the crimes committed by the Israeli occupation
07:19 forces and demanded an immediate ceasefire.

08:55 in the Senate.
08:56 Instances are renewed in parts every two years.
09:01 On Saturday, more than 76,000 workers of the Argentine Post Office continued the distribution

09:30 nuestro país; and Miriam Bregman, Frente de izquierdas y trabajadores de su unidad.
09:33 In order to win in the first round and occupy the Casa Rosada, a candidate must obtain more
09:37 than 45% of the ballots or 40% with a difference of at least 10 points with respect to the
09:44 second most voted, failing which it will be necessary to go to a runoff election which
09:49 is scheduled for November 19.
09:52 The Government of Honduras is promoting a draft law on land titling, regulation and
10:00 governance which aims to recognize and protect the rights of indigenous and Afro-Honduran
10:04 peoples' territories.
10:05 The National Agrarian Institute of Honduras announced that the proposed regulation will
10:09 undergo a socialization process to decide whether or not to authorize the indigenous
10:14 people to exploit the natural resources in a sustainable and well-organized manner, respecting
10:20 the cultural beliefs of the ancestral peoples.
10:23 According to the Vice President of the Confederation of Indigenous Peoples of Honduras, José Ramón
10:29 Melgar, the draft law has already been discussed with other government entities such as the
10:34 Forest Conservation Institute and more recently with representatives of nine indigenous communities.
10:39 The law is intended to have a gender focus with opportunities for indigenous women and
10:43 youth to make proper use of the resources it protects.
10:47 In Panama, social and environmental groups reject the agreement between the state and
10:56 a transnational mining company denouncing legal violations and irreversible damage to
11:01 the environment.
11:02 Despite the rejection of the mining contract, the country's President, Laurentino Cortizo,
11:07 approved this Friday a contract between the government and Panama Mining, which establishes
11:12 a minimum yearly income of more than $170 million and state supervision of the mining
11:17 operation.
11:18 The signing, published in the official state gazette of the law, led to clashes between
11:23 demonstrators and local authorities, with injuries and the use of tear gas.
11:27 A spokesman for the Allianza Pueblo Libre por la Vida said they will continue to fight
11:32 until the mining contract is overturned.
11:40 Peru's government admitted that the national economy is in recession, to official figures,
11:44 in spite of repeated denials.
11:46 The Minister of Economy and Finance, Alex Contreras, made the statement in a visit to
11:51 the Parliament, in which he asked for the approval of a supplementary credit that will
11:55 be used in the allocation of funds for the reactivation of the economy.
11:59 The situation was made clear in a report by the National Institute of Statistics and Information
12:04 Technology, according to which the economy suffered a 0.63% drop in August.
12:09 Until a few days ago, Contreras had denied that the country was in recession, as economists
12:14 of different tendencies had warned months ago and stated that the economy would recover
12:19 in the third and fourth quarters of this year.

12:41 Welcome back from the South.
13:05 In Pakistan, thousands of supporters of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif demonstrated on
13:10 Saturday for his return after four years of self-exile in London.
13:14 Earlier this week, the Islamabad High Court granted Sharif protective bail until Tuesday,
13:18 October 24, removing the threat of immediate arrest once he returns to the village.
13:23 Numerous banners and posters were put up in Lahore to welcome his arrival.
13:28 Sharif's return was publicized for a month by Sharif's party, whose leaders hoped his
13:33 presence could revive a now-flagging popularity.
13:36 The former Prime Minister was removed from office by Supreme Court in 2017 following
13:41 a special investigation into money laundering and corruption stemming from the disclosure
13:46 of the so-called Panama Papers.
13:48 The current situation in Pakistan is related to inflation.
13:55 The people are very poor.
13:57 Only Sharif can control the situation.
13:59 We worked on construction sites, but now with these conditions, we are all jobless.
14:04 Because all the construction sites are closed now, they will return.
14:08 We have full faith in them that they will promote the construction sector as well.
14:13 In Kenya, President William Rudolph received his Angolan counterpart, Joao Lourenço, at
14:17 the official presidential residence in Nairobi.
14:20 The Angolan president is on a two-day state visit to strengthen bilateral ties between
14:24 the two countries.
14:26 After the meeting, the Kenyan president announced that both nations will push for the resumption
14:31 of direct flights between Nairobi and Luanda.
14:34 Adding, Kenya-Angola trade has been on the rise in the past four years.
14:38 Besides flights, President Rutu announced the activation of a visa-free regime to ease
14:43 the free movement of people.
14:45 The two leaders also had a joint media briefing where Kenya pledged to support Angola's candidature
14:50 for membership in the African Union Peace and Security Council.
14:55 Kenya President William Rudolph and his Angolan counterpart Joao Lourenço called on the M23
15:03 rebels to move to military quarters in order to move forward towards achieving peace in
15:07 the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
15:10 I have briefed Mr. President on what Kenya is doing alongside our East African community
15:21 partners in stabilizing eastern DRC.
15:28 I have also congratulated President Lourenço for his not just participation but leadership
15:36 in especially the mediation efforts between DRC and Rwanda.
15:42 And we believe that it is an achievable aim to engage in consultation, stabilize eastern
15:52 part of DRC and allow the people of DRC in general to benefit from their progress, from
16:00 their development and from stability and progress in their region.
16:08 We have jointly made great progress both in the Rwanda and the Nairobi processes.
16:15 Jointly we have made good progress but we have become stagnant on one item.
16:20 We need to have the M23 cantonment carried out.
16:25 On Saturday, India successfully launched the first unmanned trial run of its upcoming crew
16:30 orbital mission, the latest milestone for the spacefaring ambitions.
16:34 The Ganga-Yan Mission, Skycraft in English, is slated to send three astronauts into Earth
16:40 orbit in 2025, an important drastic of the Indian Space Research Organization's technical
16:46 capabilities.
16:47 Saturday's rocket tested the emergency escape system of its crew module, which separated
16:52 from the thruster and made a soft sea landing about 10 minutes after the launch.
16:57 The Indian Space Research Organization will conduct a series of 20 major tests, including
17:02 preparing a robot to enter space before the final manned mission takes place.
17:06 Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced plans to send a man to the moon by 2040, following
17:12 a year of triumph for India's space program.
17:16 The crew escape system for the Ganga-Yan program through a test vehicle demonstration, in which
17:26 the vehicle has gone up to a Mach number, which is a speed of sound slightly above that,
17:32 and initiated an abort condition for the crew escape system to function.
17:38 It took the crew escape system, took the crew module away from the vehicle, and subsequent
17:47 operations of the crew module separation from the crew escape system, all the parachutes
17:51 opening, and touchdown in the sea at the required velocity has been very well accomplished,
17:57 and we have good confirmation of the data of all of this.
18:18 Thank you.
