00:00 After winning the bronze medal in the 19 Hangzhou Asian Games last year,
00:06 the Philippine Sepak Takraw team will return to action this May
00:10 for the 2024 Eastaf Sepak Takraw World Championship.
00:14 This is what Daryl O'Claris has reported.
00:16 The Philippine Sepak Takraw team is now preparing for the 2024 Sepak Takraw World Cup
00:25 that will be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on May 20.
00:28 The country is excited after their successful campaign in the 19 Hangzhou Asian Games.
00:35 It is said that Jason Huerte, Ray J. Ortuste, Vince Alesson-Torno, and Mark Joseph Gonzalez
00:43 have won two bronze medals for the Men's Reggae and Quadrant Competition.
00:47 These are the first medals of the Philippines in the Continental Meet since the Sepak Takraw debuted in 1990.
00:53 In a statement to the Philippine Sports team captain Huerte, he said that they still can't believe that they won a medal in the Asian Games.
01:01 We don't know if the 19 Asian Games will be a success because we are so happy.
01:10 We have been waiting for a long time to unlock the Asian Games medal
01:16 since after 30 to 31 years of the Sepak Takraw in the Asian Games.
01:22 All the hard work of the coaches, officials, and our players really paid off.
01:29 So whatever color we got for us, it's like this, ma'am.
01:35 This year, our national team will face a new challenge in their competition in the Sepak Takraw World Stage.
01:42 According to Huerte, in 2015, they again participated in the Staff World Cup
01:47 where they finished in third place in the Men's Reggae.
01:50 So aside from winning the medal, they are also looking forward to give exposure to the new players in the competition.
01:56 Actually, it's almost the whole world, ma'am.
02:00 So whoever will send the Sepak Takraw to the World Tournament,
02:06 especially those who we fought in the Asian Games,
02:11 they will be there to try again, ma'am, if they can.
02:20 To the youngsters, ma'am, to expose them, that's what we want.
02:26 So we are also excited about what our performance will be in our campaign in the Staff World Cup.
02:34 Huerte also added that although they will wait for two more years, they are also preparing for the 2026 Asian Games that will be held in Aichi and Nagoya, Japan.
