02:36with another episode of Two Guys, One Video Game, the special throwback edition!
02:43Throwback.
02:43We're throwing it back to an old school game.
02:46You might recognize some of the props behind us.
02:49Super Mario Kart 64.
02:51Oh, yeah.
02:52It's really the only racing game I've ever given a crap about.
02:55Like, Super Mario Kart 64, I think it brought a lot of new stuff to the table.
03:00A, at the time, like when the cartridge games first came out, this was like the racing game
03:05for the Nintendo 64.
03:06It brought four players can race at the same time on one system.
03:10It also had verse mode, which was new to a racing game.
03:14So, I don't mean verse mode like you could race each other.
03:16I mean verse mode like you battled each other.
03:18So, you're shooting red shells, you're shooting green shells, throwing banana peels at your
03:22opponents live on the same console, on the same TV.
03:26So, it was cool.
03:26You could sit next to your friend and race and fight and do whatever.
03:30It's funny now, like when you look back on it, that this game brought a lot of that to
03:35the table.
03:35Yeah.
03:36And now, almost every game has to have features like that.
03:38It almost set the standard.
03:40You know, obviously we have an age gap between us, and I think you were at like the perfect
03:44age to like play the game, party when the game was out.
03:48Yeah.
03:49And I was a bit beyond it, but, you know, for me, I hook it up at home, and my kids instantly
03:56play it still.
03:57It doesn't even matter that it's an old game.
03:59They still love it.
04:01I guess Mario Kart hasn't really changed a ton.
04:05It's always the same concept, really.
04:08Even from like the Super Nintendo version to the 64, like they just keep adding more elements
04:13to it.
04:14Yeah.
04:14The tracks are getting harder.
04:15You know, now you're racing online, so you're taking on 13-year-old Korean kids that can
04:21race way faster than what you can race.
04:23Yeah, they will beat you.
04:24Yeah.
04:25You mastered this game.
04:26Yes.
04:27Like, this is one of the games that James said, I'm going to see this all the way through.
04:32Which, especially back then, it was tough to get to the end of games.
04:35Yeah.
04:35You know?
04:36Exactly.
04:37Perfectly said.
04:37But back then, if you could play this game online against other opponents, I guarantee
04:41you, I would have been like ranking the top 10 in the world.
04:43In having kids and seeing, you know, how many different Mario Kart games they have.
04:49You know?
04:49It was cool to see where it all began.
04:51Yeah.
04:51It's one of those rare games that's like fun for adults and also yet still kid-friendly.
04:57Yeah.
04:57Which is kind of hard to find nowadays.
04:59I feel like if I let you play this game with my kids, it wouldn't be kid-friendly very long.
05:03Yeah, I don't keep things very kid-friendly in many environments.
05:06No, you don't.
05:07Especially when I lose.
05:08Or if you hit me with the big, like the first plate shell with the spikes.
05:12Oh, yeah.
05:12I got some words for you.
05:15Like, f*** you.
05:17Suck a s***.
05:19Words like that.
05:20Yeah.
05:21My kids wouldn't know how to react to that.
05:27No.
05:28It's probably for the best that they don't know, that they don't have a reaction.
05:31I figured they'd hit me in the nuts or give me the finger or something.
05:34Stella might.

05:36Yeah.
05:36Well, I'm not going to play with Stella.
05:37Don't.
05:38For me, like, I love this game because it had, like, a couple little secrets in there.
05:42I believe this was, Mario Kart 64 was the first one where you could, like, shoot yourself off the track on a rainbow road and land and get, like, an advantage over people.
05:51A couple different little shortcuts.
05:53You had to drift.
05:55I tried to hit a shortcut for, like, six races in a row, I think.
05:59I was trying to hit a ramp and make it into some little cave, and I just sucked so bad that I couldn't make it in there.
06:05But it's hard.
06:05It takes a lot of practice.
06:07Yeah, a lot of practice.
06:08Yeah, see, you would have pwned me if we were head-to-head battling in this game.
06:11Yeah, dude, I'm telling you, I know every trick, every secret to the 64 version of Mario Kart.
06:16Yeah.
06:16So I've unlocked all the circuits from the 50ccs to the special circuit, all the levels, first place, best time, everything.
06:25He's proud of himself.
06:26Dude, if it's one accomplishment that I can say in video games, it's that one right there.
06:31I wish it could be more like I was a master at Halo or Call of Duty, but I'll take Mario Kart.
06:35I'll take it where I can get.
06:36It's not bad.
06:36At least you're a master of one.
06:38Yeah, master of one.
06:39Yeah.

06:43Plus, we got to wear these cool costumes, and you can see my gorilla nips somewhere.
