00:07Now let's talk about the important rivers, lakes, and seas of Jesus' Land.
00:14In other words, we are going to learn about the hydrography of the Holy Land.
00:20In the interior we find the Sea of Galilee, the Jordan River and the Dead Sea.
00:28And on the outside, the Mediterranean Sea and the Red Sea.
00:34We're not just going to talk about what we find on the inside of these last two.
00:41Let's start with the Jordan River.
00:43This is the main river of the Land of Jesus and it originates on Mount Hermon.
00:49These waters flow into Lake Julé,
00:54which continues its journey south, feeding the Sea of Galilee.
01:00From there it continues its journey until it reaches the Dead Sea,
01:05where the waters will no longer have an outlet and will accumulate in it.
01:13What important events happened on this river?
01:17Well, in Mark 1.9 this evangelist tells us that Jesus was baptized in the Jordan.
01:29Now let's move on to the Sea of Galilee.
01:34It's striking that it's called a sea,
01:37Because when you start studying you realize it's not an ocean,
01:41which is actually a lake.
01:44But its depth and geography cause the winds to raise large waves,
01:52just as it happens at sea, hence its name.
01:57This lake is 21 kilometers long and 12 kilometers wide,
02:04and it has a depth of 212 meters below sea level.
02:11Besides the Sea or Lake of Galilee,
02:15It is also known by other names, what are they?
02:19Kineret, because it has the shape of a harp,
02:22And in Hebrew the word Kiner means harp.
02:27In Matthew and Mark it is referred to as Gennesaret,
02:33that is, a sea of wealth,
02:35and John calls it the Sea of Tiberias.
02:39Among the cities located on the perimeter of this lake,
02:44we find Bethsaida, Tiberias,
02:48Magdala, Tabga, Capernaum, and others.
02:52I suggest that, brother, as you read the Bible,
02:57We already have a lot of information, many names,
03:01that you keep putting, well, what I used to do was,
03:05Look, he put the place names in a little box
03:09to see where Jesus was walking,
03:12And all of that shapes you more than a geographical path,
03:17As I already told you, a Christological path,
03:21what was happening in each place.
03:24And well, that's how you'll realize it.
03:28and you will become more aware
03:30what events took place in each of these places.
03:37Now then, let's see what happened
03:41near the Sea of Galilee.
03:44The calling of his first disciples that Mark tells us about in chapter 1
03:51and its parallels.
03:53There too, Jesus exorcised the demons and sent them into the herd of pigs.
04:01It was where Jesus calmed the storm.
04:05He also preached from a boat there.
04:09And it also happened in this place, on this Sea of Galilee,
04:15the miraculous catch.
04:17I invite you, brother, to start practicing horizontal reading.
04:23The Bible verse is appearing on your screen.
04:27where these events took place.
04:30I invite you to look for the parallel
04:34so you can practice horizontal and vertical reading at the same time.
04:40Let's move on now to the Dead Sea.
04:43The Jordan River ends its course in this sea.
04:46and it is given the name Dead Sea
04:49because there is an absence of life in it.
04:52This is due to its high salt content.
04:56The cities of Sodom and Gomorrah are located on its beaches.
05:01and the fortress of Masada was also located there
05:05built by Herod.
05:08It is more than 397 meters below sea level.
05:14Today, this sea is divided into two parts.
05:20And well, taking advantage of what we have learned about these rivers and seas,
05:29So let's talk about a teaching.
05:34Although we said that the Sea of Galilee receives the waters of the Jordan River
05:40and returns them again,
05:44So now let's imagine that we are that sea.
05:50That Sea of Galilee that receives many things from God.
05:54Look, Miguel Ángel Terán shows us something very beautiful on his blog
06:00And it tells us that the Sea of Galilee receives those waters without retaining them,
06:06but rather lets each drop it receives flow.
06:12Now, let's see ourselves, I was saying, we are like that sea.
06:16Our lives receive many things, both material and spiritual.
06:22This tells us that we should be like this lake,
06:27sharing what we receive to enrich others.
06:31Conversely, what about the Dead Sea?
06:34For it retains the waters that flow to it from the Jordan.
06:38And it doesn't allow life, right?
06:41That's what happens when you receive and don't give, when you accumulate.
06:46So I invite you to make this analogy in your life as well.
06:50and that you wonder what kind of sea you are.
06:55The Sea of Galilee or the Dead Sea?
06:58That concludes this part of the class.
07:03In the following video we will see the important elevations of the land of Jesus.
