00:07Now let's look at the ending of Marcos. Marcos has a short ending and a long one. That's why
00:17That is why it is important that when we are studying the Bible we understand how the
00:24Gospels. As I just mentioned, in the case of Mark we have two endings. Originally the
00:33The gospel concluded in chapter 16, verse 8. This is known as a short ending, but
00:41Later, an appendix was added containing a summary of the appearances of Jesus.
00:49This is known as the long ending and spans from chapter 16 verse 9 to
00:57Verse 20. What is contained in this long ending? Well, there is the missionary mandate and the
01:05Ascension. There is also a very narrow or condensed summary of the apparitions to Mary Magdalene.
01:12which we find in the Gospel of John. The appearances to the disciples of Maus that
01:18They also appear in Luke. The appearances to the eleven that appear in the Gospel of
01:23Matthew and the missionary mandate, which also appear in Matthew and Luke. And the narrative of the ascension.
01:33which we find in both Luke and the Acts of the Apostles. Let's read the verses
01:40which includes or where the short ending ends. After Saturday, Mary Magdalene, Mary the one of
01:48Santiago and Salomé bought perfumes to go and embalm him, and very early on the first day
01:56From the middle of the week at sunrise they went to the tomb. They were saying to one another, “Who will take the grave from us?”
02:04The stone from the door of the tomb? But when they looked up, they saw that the stone had already been removed.
02:13And it was very large. Upon entering the tomb, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, dressed
02:22He was wearing a white robe and they were frightened. But he said to them, “Don’t be afraid, I know you are looking for Jesus.”
02:30Nazareth, the crucified one, but he has risen, he is no longer here. Go from the place where they laid him and without
02:41However, he told his disciples and Peter that he would go ahead of them to Galilee. There you will see him.
02:49as he told you. They fled from the tomb, for a great trembling and terror had seized them.
02:59of them and said nothing to anyone because they were afraid.
03:06Whenever I read this passage and think, the Gospel of Saint Mark would have ended here,
03:16I want to ask you, what are your thoughts on this? Probably just indifferent, right? Like something's missing.
03:24It's as if the ending isn't complete. So the question arises, what happened next?
03:33Undoubtedly, the ending here is abrupt. This bewilderment makes us think that no one expected it.
03:43that Jesus had risen from the dead. They approached to anoint him, but they received that great news.
03:50And the empty tomb indicated the resurrection of Jesus. On the other hand, we have that long ending that...
04:01It provides a more complete closure to this story, showing us Jesus victorious over death.
04:10Now let's look at the messianic secret. Throughout the narratives, Jesus asks the
04:19characters who remain silent about what they see. This request for discretion is made after
04:28The healings he performs. Also, the messianic confessions, as in the case of Peter.
04:37during the transfiguration. And the women, although it is not Jesus directly who asks them,
04:47but out of fear they remain silent. We even find demons who are ordered
04:58They should be quiet. Why does Jesus command them to be silent? Well, He commands it because His identity was not revealed.
05:09fully understood, and it wouldn't be fully understood until the Son of Man rose from the dead. It is only at that moment that it is truly understood.
05:18that his messianic figure and message would be understood. Jesus must suffer to reveal his identity to all.
05:27later. The only ones who knew his identity from the beginning were the demons, but they didn't
05:37It was their responsibility to reveal their identities, so he silenced them. We see how this whole gospel revolves around...
05:46So, the question revolves around "Who is Jesus?" And this isn't just for the community that heard
05:54to Saint
05:55Mark, but so that through this writing you too may answer for yourself, "Who is Jesus?" And by knowing him
06:05You increase your faith in Him, since today we know we have a lot of information about who Jesus is,
06:14But a great number of people do not have faith in Him, even among us Catholic Christians.
06:24Brothers and sisters, let us feel as part of that community to which Mark wants to speak today, so that as we
06:34As we continue our study of this gospel, we find ourselves in a situation similar to that of the disciples, who
06:41Through these texts they received Jesus' teachings to follow him.
06:46In this way, we too will be able to discover his identity as Messiah and Son of God.
06:55Personally, brothers, I pray that the word will guide you and that you will be able to answer that question of Jesus.
07:03And you, who do you say I am?
07:07Like those who experienced Jesus' teachings and miracles, let us not remain silent but share them with others.
07:17Brothers, with this we conclude the introduction to the Gospel of Mark.
07:22In the next class we will delve into the study of the Gospel.
07:27I'll be waiting for you.
07:57The Gospel of Mark
