00:08Welcome to Mojo Plays, and quickly I've got to get through this intro before the timer runs out and we
00:11all die.
00:11These are the 20 most stressful time missions in video games. Let's go!
00:14Before we continue, we publish content all week long, so be sure to subscribe and ring the bell to get
00:19notified of our latest videos.
00:23Penitence Bridge Riddler Trophy Batman Arkham Knight.
00:31Few Riddler trophies inspire instant hatred quite like the one hidden beneath Penitence Bridge in Batman Arkham Knight.
00:36The setup demands four switches be triggered within three seconds, while two pressure pads remain occupied, because apparently solving puzzles
00:43normally was too generous.
00:45Batman must use the voice synthesizer to park a Riddler bot on one pad, then cover the two nearby switches
00:49with explosive gel.
00:51After stepping onto the second pad, throw batarangs at the distant targets and immediately detonate the gel.
00:56The real trick is realizing batarangs alone will not work.
00:59Like most Riddler challenges, the puzzle is less about intelligence and more about discovering which gadget combination the smug green
01:05menace expects you to magically guess.
01:10Sewer Escape Ratchet & Clank.
01:16Most of Ratchet & Clank is happy to let players blast through enemies at their own pace, without too much
01:21trouble.
01:22Then, Sewer Escape suddenly decides everyone needs to hurry up all of a sudden.
01:26Rising Water forces Ratchet through a tight obstacle course packed with awkward platforms and amoeboids that exist purely to waste
01:33valuable seconds.
01:33One hit can ruin the entire attempt, while the underwater sections become even nastier, because Ratchet's oxygen supply disappears alarmingly
01:41fast.
01:41The heli pack helps you move a little quicker, but there's barely any room for mistakes.
01:45Miss one jump, bump into an enemy, or hesitate for half a second, and the water wins.
01:50It's the definition of stress.
01:52Well, actually, the definition of stress is the body's natural response to pressure, a difficult situation, or a perceived threat.
01:57Alright, but you get my point.
02:03Hope Cannot Save Them, Tier 3, Star Wars Battlefront 2.
02:06Every wildfire starts to spark.
02:10Arcane mode in Star Wars Battlefront 2 saves its cruelest joke for the third tier of Hope Cannot Save Them.
02:15The challenge gives you 40 seconds to eliminate 40 rebel soldiers, meaning the game expects one defeat every second with
02:21absolutely no coffee breaks.
02:23Enemies are scattered around the map and often run away the moment trouble appears.
02:26So finding enough targets is half the battle.
02:29Waiting to fire until several rebels are grouped together helps, since the countdown only begins after your first shot.
02:35Even then, choosing the correct starting position is painfully important.
02:38A later update improved enemy pathfinding, which somehow actually made things worse.
02:48Arms Dealing Borderlands 2.
02:56Arms Dealing Borderlands 2 is technically optional, but completionists know that means they are absolutely going to suffer through it
03:03anyway.
03:03The mission asks you to gather five severed arms, stuff them into a PO box and return to Overlook before
03:08a two-minute timer expires.
03:10Driving helps, although the rough terrain and enemy interruptions make the route far messier than it sounds.
03:15The easiest method is to leave a vehicle waiting in Overlook, then use Catch a Ride to teleport back once
03:20the deliveries are finished.
03:22Without that trick, every second becomes precious and every small mistake feels enormous.
03:25It's a side quest about mailing limbs, yet somehow the real victim is your patience.
03:36Rescue the Archaeologist, Fable.
03:38There were too many of them. We never stood a chance.
03:41They grabbed the archaeologist and took him up the hill now.
03:45Fable rarely puts up much of a fight, but Rescue the Archaeologist suddenly turns the pressure dial all the way
03:50up.
03:50Once the target is found, players receive only five minutes to clear out a group of powerful minions before he's
03:55dragged off to Bargate Prison.
03:57Those enemies can absorb plenty of punishment, and anyone arriving with weak gear will watch the timer vanish long before
04:03the battlefield is empty.
04:04The smartest move is to leave, upgrade your weapons, and return once the slow time spell is available.
04:10Trying to force your way through without proper preparation usually ends with repeated failure and a growing hatred of archaeology.
04:22That's the only thing I've ever seen.
04:24Supply lines, Grand Theft Auto San Andreas.
04:27Hey, Z, where you at?
04:28Go away, Carl. I'm very, very busy back here. Top secret stuff, not for your eyes. Too sensitive.
04:35Come on, homie, where are you?
04:36I said go away, Carl. I don't need any friends today. Thank you.
04:41Few missions in GTA San Andreas have damaged more controllers than supply lines.
04:45Zero sends players across San Fierro in a tiny RC plane to destroy five courier vehicles, then somehow make it
04:53back to his roof before the fuel runs dry.
04:55The original PS2 version was especially cruel because fuel drained constantly, even while gliding, turning every awkward turn into wasted
05:03time.
05:03Later releases reduce the pain by changing the fuel system and increasing capacity, but the early versions remain brutal.
05:09The plane handles like a shopping trolley with wings, enemies can shoot it down, and even one bad approach can
05:15ruin everything.
05:15Like my dad's TV.
05:17I broke my dad's TV.
05:24Labyrinth Zone, Sonic the Hedgehog
05:31Nothing in Sonic the Hedgehog creates panic, quite like hearing the underwater countdown music in Labyrinth Zone.
05:37This is the first area that forces Sonic to spend long stretches beneath the surface, where speed suddenly becomes much
05:42less useful than basic breathing.
05:44After roughly 18 seconds without grabbing an air bubble, the famous warning tune kicks in and immediately makes everything feel
05:5010 times worse.
05:51Reach 30 seconds without oxygen and Sonic drowns, usually while an air bubble appears just out of reach to mock
05:57you.
05:58Labyrinth Zone itself is not the game's hardest section, but the slow movement and constant hunt for air makes every
06:03underwater stretch feel like Sega briefly replaced platforming with a stretch.
06:07Not exactly a time trial, but drowning is just time limits underwater.
06:12Disagree? Go 800 seconds underwater and I'll personally apologize.
06:21Facility in 2 minutes and 5 seconds, Goldeneye 007.
06:30Earning the invincibility cheat in Goldeneye 007 is less emission and more a 2 minute panic attack.
06:36Facility must be cleared in 00 agent difficulty, which is already hard, in under 2 minutes and 5 seconds, with
06:42Bond locating Dr Doak, collecting the decoder, reaching the laboratory and blowing up the gas tanks.
06:47Guards hit hard, but fighting them properly takes too long, so the best strategy is usually to sprint past and
06:53trust they aim as bad as usual, which they suddenly don't.
06:56The real nuisance is Dr Doak, who can spawn in several places and destroy a strong run simply by choosing
07:02the wrong corridor.
07:03Even the ending needs care, since Trevelyan can't die too early.
07:06Skill helps, but lucky scientist load-ins help more.
07:17Driving Mission 34 Gran Turismo 4
07:29Gran Turismo 4 saves its most vicious test for Driving Mission 34, where players must wrestle a 2003 Mercedes SLR
07:37McLaren around the northern-growing Neuidschleife.
07:39Excuse my pronunciation.
07:41The goal is to catch a Mercedes 300 SL, despite starting 123 seconds behind, and yes, the game makes you
07:48sit through every second before moving.
07:50Once underway, the SLR handles like it's recently learned what corners are, while touching another car or leaving the track
07:55causes instant failure.
07:57A full attempt lasts roughly 9 minutes, so repeated mistakes can devour an entire evening.
08:02For many players, this becomes the final barrier to 100% completion.
08:06123 seconds of still is a timed mission with a twist, and I'd like to twist the neck of the
08:12developers.
08:18Catch a Chocobo Final Fantasy X
08:25Few minigames have inspired as much pure misery as Catch a Chocobo in Final Fantasy X.
08:30To earn the sun's sigil, players must finish with a displayed time below 0 seconds,
08:35which sounds like the game has finally abandoned mathematics.
08:37Balloons reduce the clock by 3 seconds each, while every bird collision adds 3 seconds back on and usually ruins
08:43the run.
08:44The trouble is that the balloon placement, bird patterns, and the Chocobo's awkward steering can all feel really unpredictable.
08:50Even a promising attempt may collapse during the final stretch, through no obvious fault of your own.
08:55Since the sun's sigil is needed to fully upgrade Tidus's Kalidbulg, anyone chasing his best weapon must repeatedly volunteer for
09:01this brightly coloured punishment.
09:03I can actually do this usually in about one go, and the reason is from having about 10,000 hours
09:09of practice from the age of 10.
09:11God, I hated this mission.
09:17Crazy Box SS Crazy Taxi
09:27Crazy Taxi looks like a cheerful arcade racer about reckless driving and loud music, but Crazy Attack quickly removes the
09:34cheerful part.
09:35This final Crazy Box challenge gives players 4 minutes to complete a full lap of the city, while carrying a
09:41passenger leaving almost no space for slow corners or messy crashes.
09:44Normal driving will not cut it. You need to chain Crazy Dashers, use limited cuts, and keep the taxi moving
09:50at ridiculous speed for nearly the entire run.
09:53Even experienced players can reach the finish with only seconds remaining, assuming they reach it at all.
09:58It's basically a driving exam designed by Espresso. Stupid joke.
10:03You made it!
10:04Serious speed!
10:05Nothing I can't handle.
10:06Falling Ship, Star Wars Jedi Knight Dark Forces 2.
10:10Kai, you must get to your ship.
10:12Escape from the Sulon Star is where Star Wars Jedi Knight Dark Forces 2 stops feeling like a shooter and
10:20starts feeling like a collapsing maze.
10:22After Jarek sends the ship tumbling into a canyon, players must race through its cargo hold, find the mouldy crow
10:28and escape before everything explodes.
10:30Sounds like I made most of those words up, but I didn't.
10:33The problem is that the ship's violent movement constantly changes your sense of direction, making familiar rooms feel completely useless.
10:40On Jedi Master difficulty, the timer drops to just 90 seconds, leaving almost no chance to stop and think.
10:47You must memorise the route, move quickly, and pray.
11:03The dam level in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has spent decades introducing children to stress at a wildly inappropriate age.
11:11Players get only 140 seconds to swim through the area and disarm 8 bombs before everything goes horribly wrong.
11:17That would already be rough, but the water slows movement, electrified barriers punish poor positioning, and hostile sea creatures constantly
11:25get in the way.
11:26One bad turn can waste enough time to ruin the entire attempt, forcing players to restart and memorise the route
11:31properly.
11:32The sudden difficulty jump is enormous compared to what came before it.
11:35I've never gone beyond that point, and even pro-runners will take damage in this section.
11:48Set to Kill, The Simpsons Hit and Run.
11:50Better get some heavy artillery if I'm going to take out that much private property.
11:55Kearney should have something good.
11:56Bart gets handed one of Springfield's nastiest errands in The Simpsons Hit and Run,
12:00when Set to Kill demands that he smash a collection of laser gun stands before the clock runs out.
12:05These targets are spread across the map, so there's no room for relaxing driving or sightseeing.
12:11Traffic, tight corners, wandering pedestrians, and the danger of starting a hit and run
12:15can destroy an attempt almost instantly.
12:18A speedy vehicle is essential, but even that will not save a badly planned route.
12:23Players need shortcuts, clean handbrake turns, and a little luck to finish in time.
12:26The final mission of the game is really, really hard, but at least you've had the whole game to practice.
12:32This is Smack Bang in the Middle.
12:38Stormy Ascent, Platinum, Relic, Crash Bandicoot, and Sane Trilogy.
12:47Stormy Ascent was removed from the original Crash Bandicoot for being too difficult,
12:51so naturally Crash Bandicoot and Sane Trilogy brought it back and added a Platinum Relic challenge.
12:56Seriously?
12:57Players must survive disappearing steps, spikes, vultures, and irritating lab assistants in under
13:03seven minutes. That sounds fairly generous, until you remember that simply finishing the level can
13:08take ages. I'm good at platformers, and I played for 20 minutes or so and just walked away.
13:13I think I even said out loud, I don't need this. Racing through it only makes the precise jumps even
13:18harder, with one rushed mistake often sending Crash straight back to an earlier checkpoint.
13:23Earning the Platinum Relic demands near-perfect timing across one of the trilogy's longest and
13:27cruelest stages. It's less a time trial and more a seven-minute argument with gravity.
13:37Save the Oracle, God of War
13:44Halfway through God of War, Kratos briefly stops murdering everything in sight to rescue the Oracle
13:49of Athens, who is dangling from a rope after a harpy attack. Players receive only 67
13:55seconds to cross a nasty obstacle course filled with giant gears, vines, and awkward rope swings.
14:00There's almost no room for hesitation, and jumping whenever possible can save a little time, because
14:05Kratos somehow moves faster when repeatedly launching himself through the air. Even after learning the
14:10route, most successful attempts finish with only seconds remaining. The re-release also added a trophy
14:15for arriving with 10 seconds left, which feels less like a challenge and more like Sony openly mocking
14:20everybody. Also, sorry I blurred all the boobies, this is a family channel.
14:24But you are late. Perhaps too late to save Athens.
14:28Demolition Man, Grand Theft Auto Vice City.
14:30Now look here, son. I got a problem and I reckon you could help me with it.
14:35Unlike supply lines from GTA San Andres, Demolition Man can't be politely ignored if you want to finish
14:41Grand Theft Auto Vice City. This mission puts players in control of an RC helicopter and gives them
14:467 minutes to plant 4 bombs across different floors of a construction site. Workers constantly attack
14:51the tiny aircraft, while the awkward camera and slippery controls make even basic movement
14:56feel like an argument. One crash or wrong turn can waste enough time to ruin the run completely.
15:02The Definitive Edition softened things by adding 30 seconds and allowing instant restarts,
15:06but in the original release the mission was less demolition work and more a small flying machine
15:11destroying your afternoon.
15:12Damn! I gotta lay off the pills!
15:17Mile High Club Veteran, Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare
15:26Mile High Club may be tucked away after the credits of COD 4, but it's become more infamous than
15:32plenty of full campaign missions. On Veteran difficulty, players get just 60 seconds to fight through a
15:39packed passenger plane, reach the hostage and shoot his captor without hitting the wrong person.
15:44There's no time to clear rooms carefully or admire the scenery. Every enemy position needs to be
15:49memorised, grenades must be used perfectly and even a brief reload at the wrong moment can ruin the run.
15:55Beating it feels amazing, though mostly because the achievement proves you survived one of gaming's
16:00most stressful business-class flights.
16:08All the ring levels, Superman 64.
16:11In short time, your fate will be sealed, Superman.
16:15Superman 64 wastes little time proving its awful reputation is fully deserved. Seven times throughout
16:21the game players are forced to guide Superman through floating rings scattered across Metropolis,
16:25while an unforgiving timer counts down. The courses grow longer and more difficult,
16:30but the opening version is already bad enough to make quitting feel like the smartest possible choice.
16:34Loose controls turn simple flying into a fight, and missing one ring can destroy the entire attempt.
16:40For children who received the game in 1999 expecting to finally feel like Superman,
16:44the disappointment must have been enormous. Most players didn't even get through the first level,
16:48it was hard, and it was weird, and it was kind of crap.
17:09Here is my own personal driving game PTSD. Before Driver lets players loose on its actual streets,
17:16it demands they pass one of gaming's most unreasonable tutorials. Inside a cramped parking garage,
17:22nine driving moves must be completed in only 60 seconds, including handbrake turns, reverse spins,
17:28and the mysterious slalom. Back in 1999, many younger players didn't even know what half the checklist
17:33meant, let alone how to perform it under pressure. The controls take practice, the timer leaves almost
17:38no breathing room, and one messy maneuver can wreck the entire attempt. Plenty of players never reached
17:43the main game. Driver did not ease people in gently, had locked the front door and asked for professional
17:48stunt credentials and terminology. Seriously, I was a seven-year-old Mario fan without a driving
17:53license, what the hell is a slalom? Did you enjoy this video? Check out these other clips from Mojo Plays,
18:18be sure to subscribe and ring the bell to be notified of our latest videos.
