00:01I think we're all going to notice how cool it is during the next couple of days and indeed
00:05nights.
00:06We've not seen temperatures well below average on many occasions this summer.
00:11Mostly temperatures have been well above average with high pressure sitting close to or over
00:15the UK at the moment.
00:17High pressures to the west, low pressure to the east.
00:19We've got this very cool northerly airflow for the whole of the UK embedded within it.
00:25Some weather fronts and an awful lot of instability as that cool air overrides warm land and seas.
00:33And as a result, lots of showers to come.
00:35Not as many as Wednesday and Thursday.
00:37Here's an idea of the highly variable amounts of rain we're expecting throughout Friday.
00:41These are the 24 hour rain accumulations and these large areas of white indicate that large
00:47parts of the UK won't see a shower.
00:49But some areas will be prone to heavy and frequent downpours, East Anglia for example, parts of
00:54West Wales and the far south west.
00:5620-30mm in a few spots but like I say highly variable rainfall amounts because these showers
01:03will be mostly focused to the east as you can see running down the eastern coast of England.
01:08And across parts of Wales, especially Pembrokeshire, South Wales, into the south west of England,
01:13the odd rumble of thunder, perhaps the odd hail shower as well thrown in.
01:17But for many places actually away from the showers it will be largely dry, largely bright,
01:22areas of cloud here and there.
01:24Even where we've got the sunnier spots though, it's not going to be hot by any stretch of
01:29the imagination and certainly notably cool compared with summer so far and compared with
01:34the seasonal average.
01:36Now here's how temperatures on Friday afternoon compare with the average maximum temperature
01:41for August.
01:42Below average by a degree or three in many places, even lower than that for the eastern side
01:48of England, northeast Scotland where temperatures will be around the mid-teens typically.
01:54And with this notable breeze as well, making it feel cool as these showers move through.
01:58There will be further showers running down the east coast and running across western parts
02:03of the UK overnight.
02:04But for many, inland clear spells, lengthy dry and clear spells.
02:10And as a result, with that cool air in place, only just staying in the double figures across
02:15southern parts of the UK, widely single figures in many spots.
02:20And just like the previous night, temperatures in some sheltered parts of Scotland, northern
02:25England, dipping into the low single figures.
02:28So yeah, you might even call it chilly in places if you start off Saturday, certainly a cool
02:33feel first thing.
02:34But actually a bright start for many, long spells of sunshine.
02:39And then the cloud builds and we'll see one or two further showers across some central parts
02:43and more especially the northwest of Scotland where they'll be a little more frequent.
02:47These are largely light showers because high pressure is building in and many places will
02:52stay dry.
02:53But it's not going to be hot either, temperatures of high teens, just about 20, 21 Celsius in
03:00the south, mid-teens across northern parts of the country.
03:05Now that high pressure is here to stay for the weekend.
03:08So mostly it's a dry weekend with large amounts of blue skies, some patchy cloud here and there,
03:14the odd shower.
03:16But no return to a heat wave and no return to a lengthy dry spell.
03:21We're talking about largely dry Saturday, Sunday, Monday and then a very significant change
03:27from next Tuesday onwards to much more unsettled weather with low pressure dominating things,
03:34spells of rain and wind.
