Congress leaders staged a sit-in protest outside the Parliament Street Police Station in Delhi, demanding the registration of a First Information Report regarding alleged pellet gun injuries suffered by a student protester. The protest continued for four hours outside the Deputy Commissioner of Police office, after an initial visit to the Mandir Marg Police Station yielded no registration of a complaint. Delhi Police officials stated that the matter remains sub judice, citing a Supreme Court directed high-powered committee and an ongoing Special Investigation Team probe into multiple pending FIRs. Senior party members joined the demonstration, emphasizing the right of citizens to demand an FIR when a cognizable offense is alleged. Meanwhile, opposing political representatives characterized the sit-in as a photo opportunity, asserting that an active investigation into the protest events is already underway. Protesters reiterated their stance to remain at the location until the formal complaint is registered.

00:00All right, it is now been four hours. Four hours since Rahul Gandhi has been on
00:06Dharna outside the Parliament Street police station here in the National
00:09Capital. Congress is now releasing video of what happened inside the police
00:13station as well. Rahul has demanded FIR in the alleged use of pellet gun case
00:19and this video has just come out so let's look into it.
00:58Let's go.
01:26Let's go.
01:28Okay. Very simple. You are not doing it?
01:32Okay.
01:33I am telling you what's going to happen.
01:35I will go outside. I will sit there until there five days.
01:40I will sit there one day, two days, three days, five days, ten days, twenty days.
01:43Your government will never come.
01:44You are not working.
01:46That is the January meeting.
01:51You are already working.
02:00Alright.
02:00I'm working.
02:02You are working.
02:03You are looking at the home.
02:05You are working.
02:06You are working.
02:08You should do it.
02:11You are working.
02:22All right, so let's cut across straight to what's been happening on the ground.
02:26Like we said, four hours and counting in Rahul's Dharna 2.0 is playing out outside the Parliament Street police
02:32station.
02:32Let me cut across to my colleague Rahul Gautam, Aishwarya Paliwal and Srishti Oja as well.
02:38Rahul, if I can come to you first, help us understand what was the latest trigger, how suddenly today Rahul
02:46Gandhi ended up at the police station.
02:49Was it a surprise protest like last time around?
02:59Absolutely, it was a surprise protest.
03:01And it seemed that Rahul Gandhi and Congress had realized that, you know, we should stop news leakage and that's
03:09only created hype in media as well.
03:11And that's why we saw this morning Rahul Gandhi coming along with Sahil Lochap, who claims to be a pellet
03:18gun victim, all the way to the Parliament Street police station.
03:22Initially, first they went to Mandir Mark police station, but there they were turned away saying that the concerned DCP
03:27will take the call.
03:28They came here, met DCP, and Rahul Gandhi insisted that an FIR should be filed on the complaint of Sahil
03:35Lochap.
03:36Now, given the fact that Delhi police had said or they have argued that there is already an SIT, you
03:43know, which has been constituted by the directions of Supreme Court,
03:46which there are multiple FIRs which are still pending.
03:48Therefore, this matter is subjudeous.
03:50We cannot really register an FIR or separate FIR on our own.
03:55However, Rahul Gandhi said that, you know, that there is a medical legal certificate from Lady Harding Hospital on 14th
04:03of August also,
04:04this person, Sahil Lochap, had gone to police station to file the complaint, but again he was turned away.
04:10So, therefore, he was left with no other option but to take, you know, political support.
04:14And that's why, and Sahil Lochap, remember, was the same person with which Rahul Gandhi also held a press conference
04:20at his residence in Janhpur.
04:22And in fact, on that day, he showed injury, alleged injuries from the pallet gun.
04:26So, clearly, it seemed that Rahul Gandhi is only increasing the heat and also bringing the whole narrative back on
04:33students' protest.
04:35Remember, for the past few days, we've been hearing a controversy that we were brewing around Vande Mantram.
04:41It seemed that Rahul Gandhi's Congress Party is bringing the political narrative back on student protest.
04:46And that's why, you see, this dharna is still continuing.
04:49And they're saying that they'll not budge until an FIR is registered in this regard.
04:54All right.
04:54Aishwarya Pallewal is also with us.
04:56So, it's Srishti Oja.
04:57I'll come to Srishti in just a bit.
04:58But, Aishwarya, this is Rahul Gandhi's street fighter avatar, is it?
05:03I'm seeing off late more and more of these surprise protests come out.
05:07But, unlike the last time around where he landed up at the doorstep of the prime minister and you immediately
05:12had, you know, the senior ministers like JP Inadda, like Jitendra Singh, come to him and say that, you know,
05:19this is not the way.
05:19Let's, like, talk about it.
05:21The issue is the same, right?
05:23The issue is the same, that he wants the government to take accountability on why action and the alleged pellet
05:30guns were used on students.
05:32That issue had first taken, been taken to the parliament.
05:35Now, it's landed up at the police station.
05:38How is the BJP responding to this?
05:41Well, you know, Sonal, you rightly pointed out, we are seeing a more aggressive, a street fighter avatar of Rahul
05:47Gandhi.
05:47And it seems like, Sonal, you know, he's quite starting to enjoy this because we are seeing how calm he
05:53is.
05:53And he was all set, all ready to, in fact, sit on the floor.
05:56And let me also tell you, there are pictures coming out where one can very clearly see Rahul Gandhi with
06:00folded hands speaking with the constable who, in fact, had come out to speak with him.
06:04The Bhakti Janata Party, however, Sonal, let me tell you, says that this is all Canberra GV Rahul Gandhi.
06:09They are saying that when there is an investigation, which is already taking place with regards to what had happened
06:16on the 20th of July, what is the need for Rahul Gandhi to do all this drama?
06:20Drama is the word, let me tell you, Sonal, that is now being used by the BJP to categorically say
06:25that this is being done by Rahul Gandhi because he only wants his pictures to be clicked.
06:29He is not doing it for the students.
06:31He, in fact, is not doing it for justice.
06:33So this is what the Bhakti Janata Party and the top leadership at the moment believes is.
06:36All right. Let me cut across to Shishti Ojha as well.
06:38Shishti, give me a sense of who all are there.
06:41Again, I'm trying to draw a parallel from the last time around the protests happened.
06:45We saw chief ministers there.
06:46We saw senior leaders of the Congress Party all turn up.
06:50Today, in the visuals, at least, that we see Rahul Gandhi, we see Priyanka Gandhi-Vadra.
06:54We see a couple of lawyers who are trying to sort of talk to the police to get the FIA
06:58registered.
06:58Who else is there?
06:59Is it just purely a Congress protest or you see more galvanization happen?
07:09Well, Sonam, it's been almost five hours that Rahul Gandhi has been here outside the DCP office at the Parliament
07:17Street Police Station.
07:18Now, in the morning, it started off with Rahul Gandhi coming here with the alleged pellet gun victim, Sahil, his
07:25mother, his lawyer.
07:26And eventually, after that, once he decided to sit outside in a dharna after NFIA wasn't registered in this case,
07:35we saw senior Congress leaders also join in this particular dharna protest outside the DCP office.
07:42We saw many Congress workers raising slogans outside the police station in the morning after Rahul Gandhi was here.
07:52We eventually also saw them push through the gate, enter the police station.
07:56Right behind me, you can see the visuals, the crowd.
07:59They're still here chanting, raising slogans, etc.
08:03Now, coming back to the senior Congress leaders, we saw senior Congress leaders...
08:07Help me understand.
08:08What kind of slogans are you hearing?
08:10He's also sitting with Rahul Gandhi at the sit-in.
08:18Well, the Congress workers have been raising slogans all day,
08:22firstly saying that they're with Rahul Gandhi on this particular issue,
08:28that Rahul Gandhi should move forward with this particular complaint, with this particular thing,
08:34and they will support him as their leader.
08:36There are also slogans being raised against the central government, for the inaction, for the violence used against protesters.
08:43Now, these are the Congress workers who've come in to support their leader.
08:46When we spoke to senior leader Salman Khushi today morning, when he entered here at the police station,
08:52we asked him that an HPC has already been constituted by the Supreme Court in this case.
08:57Why this demand right now, one day after the order has come in, could this not have waited?
09:01This demand for an FIR, could it not have waited?
09:03Because the Supreme Court thought it fit, instead of directing registration of an FIR straight up,
09:09the Supreme Court thought it fit for an expert committee, for a high-powered committee,
09:12to probe into all the allegations first.
09:14Why not wait?
09:15He gave a very simple reply that as citizens, a person has a right to demand registration of an FIR,
09:20as long as there is a cognizable offence, an FIR should be registered.
09:24Their demands right now are very clear.
09:26Rahul Gandhi and the other Congress leaders will not leave unless and until an FIR in this case is registered.
09:32Delhi Police, as per our sources, has clearly told them that it's the crime branch
09:37which is handling or probing into the FIRs related to the protests.
09:41They have received the complaint filed by Sahil, they will transfer it to the crime branch
09:47and also they have told Rahul Gandhi that an HPC has been constituted which will be probing into the allegation.
09:52Now, he will have to wait and watch to see how long would these Congress leaders continue to sit here,
09:58but according to them, they will not get up unless and until an FIR is registered.
10:01All right, this is a really interesting scenario because, and I want viewers to understand this,
10:06this is right outside the Parliament Street Police Station.
10:09There is an entire battery of policemen inside.
10:14There are enough and more policemen to evacuate them if required,
10:19but they are choosing not to do that just yet.
10:21Rahul Gandhi, four hours and counting, along with his sister Priyanka Gandhi-Vadra,
10:26along with the victims of the pellet gun injuries,
10:29and a couple of lawyers are insisting that an FIR be registered.
10:33You are now getting live visuals.
10:35What you see right there in the centre are live visuals.
10:37Rahul Gandhi comfortable in his chair and saying,
10:41I am not going anywhere.
10:42I want this FIR registered.
10:44And what you see on the other side of your screen over there is on the right side of the
10:49screen really for you.
10:50Those are visuals from earlier when he was inside the police station.
10:53Remember, this is not the first stop for him.
10:55He first went to Mandir Mark where he was told that he has to go to a higher officer, DCP.
10:58The area at ACP sits at the Parliament Street police station,
11:03and that's where Rahul Gandhi is at the moment.
11:05Talking to people, talking to his consultants,
11:09talking to a couple of Gen Z also from what I can see in those live visuals over there.
11:13So interesting to see which way this goes.
11:15Like I said, four hours and counting.
11:18Rahul Gandhi right at the doorstep of Delhi Police, DCP.
11:22What happens next will be interesting to watch out for.
11:25What happens next will be interesting to watch out for.
