00:01Brendan's given us the stiff arm try to get him back in a couple minutes here I have a question
00:04about one of his teams ah uh okay do we have an update on my fantasy running back Kyle Mononga
00:09he's week to week hyperextended his knee hitting me yeah I do do think that intriguing right
00:15backfield and I thought he would emerge he was a kind of a sneaky fantasy pick he could still be
00:20sneaky but you might have to wait a little bit and so I clarify I'm not one of these idiots
00:24that
00:24drafted their fantasy team too early this is a keeper league it's the Valenny TJ Lang league
00:29and I've got Mononga super cheap so I'm with you on him but now we'll see I thought he was
00:37going to
00:37be one of the keys of their offense because it would keep it balanced and help things open up
00:41for Williams because I'm with Jim I still got to see better performance from Caleb Williams in terms
00:45of completion percentage correct I mean look can you count on his heroics in the in the you know
00:52late late in games to build your offense on no that's the thing they were the Bears division champs
00:58seven and four in one score games right they won a lot of those close football games last season
01:05so real quickly when I googled him I came across a website called dowindycity.com yeah
01:11guess take a shot at what old veteran they want to bring in to just make things stable
01:16Jamal Williams nope that would be
01:20chase that was great on the fly nice pull that was who is it
01:24chase Daniel
01:27take a few steps a running back a veteran running back Forte no we're not good come on within reason
01:34for you set it up like it was funny yeah but you said Austin Eckler
01:38no Nick Chubb okay and it's two or one knee yes he actually did decent last year for the Texans
01:47I know boy Montgomery's gonna have a good season you think so if he stays healthy I like that team
01:53yeah I love that team that's my uh Super Bowl pick
01:57all right Brendan Chabat
02:03Brendan Chabat back in the studio I got a question about your basketball team yeah why didn't Tom Izzo
02:08make a roster spot for Jackson Kohler this guy was 12 and 9 last year shoots the three you're going
02:13to
02:13be a preseason top 10 to 15 team you're chasing a national title it's here in Detroit why not kick
02:20some redshirt freshman off the roster is Izzo too nice well this is it's interesting that you brought
02:25this up today because this actually came up in our Michigan State group chat a couple days ago when
02:30before the Kohler news because it was pretty clear that he was not going to come back correct the
02:35social media rumblings between him and his father who was on there and it just did there were no signs
02:40pointing to him returning that for and same for any of the other guys isn't he from Utah yes he
02:45is he was
02:46famously the only Michigan State basketball player ever from the from the state of Utah so he goes back
02:51home it sounded like Kentucky and BYU were the two teams that came down to right and I don't think
02:55it was
02:56ever about money or about wanting to return to Michigan State and a point that my friend brought
03:03up in this conversation is if this court ruling comes down in April I know right after the season
03:09Kohler's probably instantly back and I think Izzo had alluded to that in some quotes I read but my my
03:14point is should he have been more cutthroat and said we'll make room sorry Timmy you're gonna have to
03:21find another team you're making it out like the guy who's gonna lose his spot or lose his scholarship
03:27is some you know schlub well no but they're not Jackson Kohler it's year to year it's college sports
03:32sorry someone's better than you Izzo's unwilling to do that maybe maybe you know Tom Izzo's a
03:38he's a principal man I get a decent human being where you you're trying to recruit kids and you tell
03:44your parents and all that all of a sudden in a month before classes start sorry you're gone
03:48you can't do that how many wins is being a decent human worth I don't know I'm sorry I'd rather
03:54be
03:54a decent human all right well you can let Michigan win another title I don't know whatever I agree
03:59with Stoney's point that I think it's the principle of the decision to remove somebody that you had
04:04already promised a spot I mean it's today's what August 21st like it classes the kids are moving
04:09into school already I mean yeah there are schools around the country that have already started classes
04:13well but not just that I would make the contention Tom Izzo is too good of a person but this
04:19is to
04:19win in college basketball now this is the this is the point that that will I feel like you and
04:24I as far
04:24as how we judge and talk about the Michigan State basketball program differ is that I don't expect
04:32Tom Izzo to make that decision would I like Jackson Kohler on this basketball team absolutely but I have
04:38zero expectation that Tom is going to do right the quote-unquote cutthroat or sleazy modern college
04:45thing to get the guy on his roster and I don't know if BYU cut a guy to make room
04:50for Kohler but
04:51they just wait for an honor code violation they'll be fine I I I am okay with with there being
04:58one
04:58decent human in college basketball right and and to another point too he brought he's bringing in a
05:04seven foot four-star freshman he brought in Anton Bonk to transfer the portal is closed so if you do
05:10cut a guy they can't go anywhere else at this point right now like the the roster is full the
05:15rotation
05:16is full would they be better with Jackson Kohler yes absolutely but I I don't think it's the end of
05:21the world and we can just move on from the front court it's kind of the end of an era
05:25of the Kohler
05:26Cooper days if you want will if you want will Wade to coach your basketball team fine go get him
05:31right and no and here's the thing Will Wade's a winner but has he won more than Tom Izzo no
05:37no
05:38Will Wade's got about four players on his team right now four guys on his roster like you could
05:43be him or you could be Tom Izzo you're taking it further than I'm going I'm not suggesting everyone
05:47should be Will Wade there's a middle yeah I say Kentucky and BYU both wanted this guy they were
05:51going to find ways to add this guy and I'm sure they wouldn't have been the only two schools in
05:54America that would have found ways to get Jackson Kohler onto their roster Michigan State did not want
05:59to get creative and cutthroat and mean and nasty and screw a kid over so they will pay for it
06:04this
06:04season by not being as good a basketball team as they could be and you're okay with it and Stoney's
06:09okay with it and that's that's fine but I don't know the depth chart like you do maybe there's you
06:13know the people who he would replace were actually going to be people who are going to contribute not
06:18bench warmers well you can only play so many you have 15 spots they're not all going to start
06:22they're going to start Anton Bonk the center that they went and got in the transfer portal he was
06:27from Charlotte yes big dude that's the guy that's probably going to start they're bringing in a
06:31four-star seven-footer uh who is probably more of a project and more of some development but but has
06:37a
06:37lot of promise I I think he'll probably see the floor this year but I don't know how much
06:41Jesse McCullough was that guy two years ago so Jesse McCullough didn't see the floor a ton last year
06:46but he's another big man forward that will probably be the the side piece to the Anton Bonk weapon that
06:53they have down low and then they've got a couple other bench warmers so he would have
06:57been absolutely their starting center for sure yeah but it it's it's just not not how they do it
07:03not not not how he operates and and you know like I I even question would Dusty may have cut
07:10somebody
07:10to to make room for a guy this late like I don't know I don't think so just comes there's
07:15so little
07:15you can do when it comes out in August let me just be clear on that I do think this
07:19puts coaches in an
07:20awful position yes this is terrible how this decision played out the timeline of it this made it terrible
07:26it's ridiculous I mean there's other things that happen in college football that we're going to
07:30talk about later in the program yeah I'm almost turning it to Mike with you know it's like it's
07:35the whole thing is revolting yeah that said I can't wait till the kickoff and a couple quick texts
07:42Izzo didn't keep him because he knows there's a great chance this all gets overturned on appeal and
07:46you'd be cutting someone and being down a roster spot that's Matt and Commerce I don't know the
07:51specific legality I mean a lot of this stuff is temporary like the operative word in the report
07:56yesterday about the college football players in Louisiana is they've been granted a temporary
08:00restraining order I mean we saw Charles Bediaco for Bama last year like he did everything he could
08:05to get on the floor and was there for like three games and didn't really do anything for them either
08:11tell Lil Bro to get off Izzo's lap
08:15fun question for the NIL portal era how much money would it take for you to get transferred to BYU
08:20and
08:20have to live under Mormon code of conduct and not have sex your entire time you're enrolled there
08:25okay yeah if you're some dude like from California or New York he's from Utah he could he could
08:30probably be a Mormon because you mentioned Kentucky Mark Pope used to be the head coach at BYU right
08:36yeah there you go good connection there we don't know it's just if you're I don't know their full
08:40honor code but I think if you're is Jackson single is he does he have a partner I don't know
08:46I
08:47I feel like I vaguely remember a drink pop girlfriend on social media but I'm not totally
08:51I don't remember we don't need to go that far down the rabbit hole anyway that's Brendan
08:55Shabath he's on the updates all morning Spartan fan perspective I just I saw the Kohler news
09:00overnight and I thought why wouldn't you find a way to make room for him and the answer is because
09:04you'd have to kick someone off the team and Izzo's not going to do that is polygamy still legal in
09:09in Utah I have no idea I believe so ask Kyle Whittingham the next time you see him I don't
09:15know that's the only I'm not suggesting he's polygamous he's someone in the state who was in
09:20Utah let me be very clear on that I'm not suggesting anything he was in Utah he would have more
09:30of a
09:30perspective he also went to BYU so that's also how perspective that is true all right uh let's
09:40keep the show rolling 248-539-9797 before I take it too far off the rails that's usually my job
09:46yeah well you're a bad influence 735 the cookie jar 97-1
