00:00Will the Arizona Diamondbacks have Cattell Marte in their lineup in the month of September?
00:04That still remains to be seen.
00:06A very bizarre story which continues to percolate this week.
00:10He did not show up to Fenway Park on Monday.
00:12He was placed on the restricted list and the Diamondbacks thought he would be DH.
00:18Apparently Marte thought he was hurt, maybe something wrong with his knee, wanted to get it checked out.
00:23But I guess there was some communication issues.
00:25Here is Tory Lavello after that incident on Monday talking about the scenario.
00:30So, I want to keep that private though.
00:32You seem a little emotional. Are you worried?
00:35No, not really. I just love him and I care for him. I'll be okay.
00:39What about the struggle for your pictures tonight?
00:44He is fine. Cattell is fine. He is fine.
00:46I want you guys to know that I just care for him on that level. So does everybody in that
00:49room.
00:50Yeah.
00:53Okay. So, really bizarre for Tory Lavello almost losing it on Monday.
00:57It sort of seemed that, you know, Lavello maybe didn't know where he was for a while,
01:01then figured it out, told reporters that he was okay.
01:03Once they got things figured out, they ended up meeting with him
01:06and decided that they would place him on the injured list, Tom, instead of the restricted list.
01:11So, naturally what happens, you know, in this scenario is the Players Association gets involved.
01:15The agent gets involved and they're like, hey, you got to pay my guy.
01:18He's hurt or whatever it is. They're like, okay, let's do that.
01:22So, they play nice.
01:23And then after they play nice, Tom, Marte plays, you know, at the blackjack table,
01:29which was so strange because, again, the Diamondbacks were playing that night.
01:32And, of course, everyone has a phone these days.
01:34And then Marte was spotted playing at a casino, which certainly is well within his right,
01:40but also a little bit of a bad look.
01:42So, naturally, here is Lavello on Marte at the casino.
01:49He was there at Salt River doing everything he was supposed to do.
01:52When you're turned loose from the medical team over there,
01:56you're allowed to go home and have an evening with your family.
01:58So, he's free to do whatever he wants.
02:00That's how I look at it.
02:01As long as he wakes up tomorrow morning and posts and gets his work done at Salt River,
02:05which I am certain he will, that's all that matters to me right now.

02:10So, this is a distraction without a doubt, Tom.
02:12I still think the Diamondbacks are very much in the mix.
02:15They have a really good team even without Marte,
02:18although I don't think they make the playoffs without Marte.
02:20I think they still have a good team.
02:23But there's no question that Marte's final days with the Diamondbacks
02:28are coming to the wire here in September.
02:31I mean, there's no doubt that this is just when, not if,
02:35but it can't happen this year.
02:37He's making $100 million.
02:39So, he'll just hang in there until the end of the year, right, Tom?
02:41And then they'll find a taker for him.
02:44Yeah, this situation is a little bit bizarre.
02:47We've got to remember he was involved in trade rumors in the previous offseason.
02:52A lot of what has happened, you know,
02:55I want to say, like, there's a lot of things that are true in this situation.
02:57He didn't show up.
02:58That's on him.
02:59Then he goes on the restricted list, the IL.
03:01Then he spied the casino, which, to your point, he's totally allowed to do.
03:05And apparently, that's a, you know, for everything that I've read,
03:08is that that's a thing for him.
03:09He often goes to casinos, which, again, totally normal for him to do and allowed to do.
03:14But optically, as you said, this doesn't look good given the circumstances.
03:18So, both things are true.
03:19He can be there, but it's also not the best look for him and the team overall.
03:24They are in the mix to make the postseason.
03:27You don't want this happening all at the same time because they have been steadily rising
03:30throughout the season, and you need him at the most important time of the year.
03:35On Sunday, the Diamondbacks went into play now two games back of the Padres,
03:40who rallied on Sunday night to win.
03:44And certainly, they're going to need Marte or someone to help them in the future.
