00:03so i was thinking about something today and i um i was thinking about the lions and quarterback
00:10play and what sparked it was jared goff did an interview with the athletic uh a a sit down
00:22youtube interview with it's called the athletic football show and um god who's the i don't even
00:31know who the host is to be honest with i should um so robert mays i've never heard of robert
00:36mays so
00:37robert mays sits down with jared goff and does a like 20 minute interview and i found it absolutely
00:45fascinating because jared talks about a ton of the minutia of playing the position
00:50and we were going to do our typical thing pull the best cuts from it it was almost useless without
00:56video components because he he started talking about plays really fascinating plays and that
01:04that took place last year where are an example of you know reading a defense and making a a good
01:12decision that looks way harder in real time but it's easy for him because he knows exactly where
01:18everyone's going to go and how he's manipulating defenders by looking one direction that he has
01:24no intention of throwing and coming back the other direction and he actually credits aubrey pleasant who
01:31was the defensive back coach with the rams uh guy with local ties here but he said aubrey pleasant
01:38taught him a ton about defensive backs and their responsibility so he would know that he would marry
01:45his manipulation he would turn his head to the left because he knew that would shift this corner this
01:49way and that safety that way because of what aubrey pleasant taught him but so his big thing pre-snap

01:53is figuring out the coverage figuring out fake coverages and he and he goes really in depth and
02:00there's a ton of minutiae and it was just way too deep to try and do on the air um
02:05but we tweeted out

02:12really really fascinating and he talks about his relationship with petzing and how they're fast
02:16forwarding everything to try and get to where he and ben johnson were um because he he said it took
02:21time with ben johnson and he's he and drew petzing are sitting there constantly talking football
02:26talking plays talking about what he likes about this play against that coverage and vice versa
02:31and you know putzing will tell him what he likes jerry will tell him what he likes and then they'll
02:35marry
02:35their concepts and it's really it's really cool um so go check it out if if you're if that sounds
02:42interesting to you the quarterback position though i was thinking about every position group on the
02:47lions as we approach this season do i think the arrows pointing up for the quarterback position for
02:53each position group is the arrow pointing up or pointing down and when it comes to the quarterback
02:57position it's actually slightly pointed down not anything to do with jared goff i've a lot of
03:03confidence in jared goff playing winning football it's the unknown behind him and it it feels very
03:12um it it feels it feels pretty dicey at this time whether or not they've got their backup quarterback
03:19one of the things that i think it was you originally brought it up and a lot of people jumped
03:23on board
03:23was a qb2 wasn't on the roster i think possibly yeah when we say look at the waiver wire if
03:30you could
03:30find an improvement perhaps kang did the homework and has picked his guys that he thinks would be
03:37better backup quarterback options for the lions i think you're on to something gator i think you're
03:44right i think think i jarred something loose there tiger you did and i'll take it a step further i

03:48think the blinds backup quarterback is on the roster and i do have a guy there's a there's a bunch

03:54we don't know who's going to be released yet and who's going to be cut but there we know they're

03:57to be releases and there's gonna be some surprise waves as well right yep so i look specifically at
04:02the quarterback room of course and i think by the way i like josh dobbs i do but i think

04:08guy you call when your backup quarterback gets hurt you know i don't think he's necessarily actually
04:12that makes sense right like he's like all right who do we call we need somebody he's emergency break
04:17class and he's really good at it to be honest with you to come in and just kind of keep

04:21competitive for a game but then you know teams know who he is and eventually it doesn't work out but
04:25i went around the the league and i saw some quarterback backup quarterback position battles
04:31and one was really intriguing to me and you guys know i like to swing and miss on like big

04:42to take big swings and i usually miss well the examples in the last five years are you are a

05:37i'm now i'm now fascinated as to who i am too because there's a lot of really good quarterbacks i

05:43or guys that could be good backup quarterbacks out there but it to me it depends on if a team

05:48planning on keeping two or three if you know the team's only going to keep two quarterbacks
05:53then i think this exercise becomes really interesting because that third quarterback that
05:59they're on team rosters right now i think you can definitely find someone that would be more
06:03appealing than perhaps josh dobs is so yeah you're right gator do they keep two do they keep three
06:09keep in mind kegs already told us you know i like taking big swings so here's me javi bias at

06:22chase it i went to uh there's an interesting battle going on right now in dallas yep between joe
06:27milton and sam howell i've got i literally have the alice's depth chart up that was one of the
06:32teams i was thinking of when you said arm strength all i thought was joe milton yeah 100 that's joe
06:39milton can throw about 165 yards in the air he doesn't even use his body which is useful on
06:46third and 165 that's right useful in like you know third and fort worth exactly
06:54it's true but i'm not hey admit it i had my hands raised here i'm guilty as charged yeah but
07:00if joe milton doesn't win the battle i think he's got clearly a higher ceiling than josh dobs and luke
07:06altmeyer does and if he has come in there listen you're not going to build a game plan around a
07:11mobile quarterback we know jared golf's our guy but if you do something like what dob did and he
07:16pulls it he can go 50 he can flick the wrist and throw a hail mary down there you know
07:20he's got the
07:20arm strength to make all the throws question is he's accurate can he make the right decisions of
07:24course those things you have to work on but if i had to choose between joe milton and josh dobs
