Delhi Police have registered a case of abetment to suicide against unknown persons following the death by suicide of a thirty-one-year-old Master of Science physics student at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi campus. The police registration aligns with Supreme Court guidelines regarding student suicides within educational institutions, and an investigation remains underway. Meanwhile, campus protests have intensified as students demand one crore rupees in financial compensation for the family, the resignation of senior student affairs officials and the physics department head, alongside an independent probe into the incident. The institute announced a five-member external inquiry panel comprising a former state police chief and a senior psychiatry head to submit a report within two weeks, alongside measures such as an ombudsperson for grievances and mental health mentoring support. However, protesting students rejected the administration's response as inadequate and evasive, demanding immediate administrative accountability and continuing their demonstrations on campus.
