00:00A lot of people noticed that the Amazon broadcast was very nice to Deshaun Watson.
00:07Maybe a little too nice to Deshaun Watson for some people's taste.
00:13There was the clips of him with the kitchen workers, the cafeteria workers when he was
00:20with the Houston Texans, and they talked about him at length, his battle back, basically
00:28made him out. Cardiac Kid, I know, on social media had written, if you were an alien and
00:33you just arrived, you would think he's coming back from being Walter Payton Man of the Year.
00:37Yeah, because they used clips from 10 seasons ago.
00:40Yeah, it was a long time ago. That's where those clips were from. I mean, a lot has changed
00:45since that, and it was a nice thing, don't get me wrong, it wasn't my money, it was his
00:48money. Honestly, all that stuff was part of what I talked about when going after him, because
00:56I said, you know, he was universally considered this unbelievable teammate and this great guy
01:04in the community up until the allegations.
01:07Yeah.
01:08And so that was definitely part of the story at the time, and now, obviously, our fans
01:13don't care about anything he does in the community or whatever. You don't ever hear it get brought
01:18up.
01:19Well, I, you know, he said he did a whole bunch of the community last Saturday when he
01:23had the pity party, and I said, well, actually, a lot of people haven't seen you.
01:30So should he have publicized it more? Would that have helped? I don't know.
01:33Because normally we don't like when athletes publicize that stuff.
01:35No, no, no, no, no, but it was like, well, you did things in the community when you first
01:38got here, but it seems that over the last couple of years, you've really been a recluse.
01:41And then when he got hurt, the first time, it was Miami, Europe, wherever. And then now
01:50when you're fighting for your job and your NFL career, here you are in Cleveland during
01:54the offseason.
01:55Now, maybe he was paying for stuff the whole time, and he just didn't get the word out.
01:59But normally agents and teams, they make sure that the public knows about it because they
02:06want the credit for it.
02:07So there was a lot of pro Deshaun Watson in the broadcast last night on Amazon. He
02:11even got a what's your why question from Kaylee Hartung on the sidelines.
02:16For the past 22 months, through those two Achilles surgeries, what's driven you? What's your
02:22why been?
02:23My why is just the love of the game. I just want to be able to prove to myself that
02:26I am capable
02:27of still playing high-level football in this league, and I have that opportunity to be able
02:31to show that, and I want to be able to do that each and every week.
02:34Audio courtesy of Prime. Were you surprised at how glowing everything was about Deshaun
02:39Watson?
02:39Man, I did not realize that that was going to consume so much of the broadcast.
02:45It was very surprising to me. I was like, whoa, this is a lot here.
02:48Yeah, it's almost like they thought to themselves, well, we have to have a story here.
02:54I mean, Al Michaels, when he got on during the intro, is like, eh, it's going to be a bunch
02:59of backups tonight, but there are a lot of stories going on, but they really didn't focus
03:04on the quarterback competition. If you would have just watched that broadcast last night,
03:09you would have never known there was a quarterback competition at all, because they barely, I
03:14mean, the Browns have four quarterbacks as of today, and Shador Sanders was a total afterthought.
03:19I mean, they showed him a few times, but outside of that, there was no real analysis of him,
03:26his future in the NFL, how he's been doing in camp, how he did in the preseason games.
03:32Like, if that's all you knew about the Browns, if you woke up from a coma, you would not have
03:36known there was an honest quarterback competition.
03:38And before, we saw him signing autographs at the wall right next to the state, right next
03:45to the tunnel. Does that debunk to you that everybody hates him in town? Nobody wants to
03:50see him play football? Well, I don't think everybody hates him in town. I mean, that's
03:53been the, that's been, if you, the, the average radio segment, and by the way, us included,
04:00it's been that nobody wants to see him play. And yet he was out there with the kids signing
04:05autographs before the game. Well, that's fine. But I still think the vast majority of fans don't
04:09want to see him play. But as we know that he's a starting quarterback and we are getting ready
04:14for a season. Now the preseason ended last night, you know, I kind of wonder if people
04:18are going to start lightening up on him because, you know, you, we go through this every single
04:23year, Anthony. Now, a lot of times people don't think they're going to do very well. And
04:27then you get to about a week away from the season or around this time. And people are
04:30going, you know what, maybe there's some, there's some more wins on that schedule than
04:33maybe people thought you remember that whole thing last year. We're getting ripped up and
04:37down going. I can't believe you're only saying that they can win nine games. I can't believe
04:41you're only saying they can win eight games and we're going to get that. I guarantee
04:44you, we will get that over the next couple of weeks. And because he's the starting quarterback,
04:48I think some people will start to, I know what he did against Buffalo and it was terrible.
04:53And I know he's been terrible over four years and I'm not going to be fooled. I still say
04:57five wins, but you know, me, I'll probably like at least lighten up my, uh, my attitude towards
05:03things. I'll have a better bedside manner is the term I like to use. And then I saw what
05:10I saw yesterday and I go, boy, they're, they're really putting some nice things out about him.
05:16And then the former quarterback, Ryan Fitzpatrick, well, he hit the booth yesterday and well, he
05:21certainly had an opinion that would sober everybody up. But I also think this is set up
05:26here for Shador. I mean, if Deshaun, once he fails, Shador is going to jump into this thing
05:31and he's going to be the guy and they're, this city is going to be behind him.
05:35Yeah. So you're, you think it will fail?
05:37Yeah. And it's, it's, it's going to happen. I mean, Shador is playing this year. I think
05:41all three of these guys think Gabriel is going to have a chance to play as well, but you know,
05:45this is such a young roster with a lot of changing parts and a lot of new guys. So
05:50they're going to struggle on offense this year.
05:51Again, audio courtesy of prime. Were you surprised to hear that from Ryan Fitzpatrick? Just so
05:56abrupt.
05:57Yeah. Matter of fact about it, because we had just played clips from Fitzpatrick, um, about both
06:03the quarterbacks, but in particular, he had good things to say about Deshaun. He said
06:07he can't throw the ball down the field, which most quarterbacks that can't throw the football
06:10down the field do fail. I do get that. Um, but he also had, you know, not great things
06:16to say about Shador yesterday. Now I only heard the stuff about Deshaun on the afternoon show.
06:21I didn't, they, they decided not to play the stuff that he said about the other quarterback.
06:25Uh, we try, we try to play everything. We try to make sure to, to, to be fair and balanced
06:30about both quarterbacks.
06:31They didn't play that part?
06:31No, no, they did not.
06:35Are you serious?
06:36From what I heard, that was, that was, uh, I listened to a lot yesterday.
06:44Okay.
06:45Maybe they just got busy.
06:46They could have gotten busy.
06:47How long's that show?
06:49Ken, sometimes you get busy.
06:51How, that show's five hours long? You couldn't have fit in that snippet?
06:54We do it all the time. We have things we, we left it on the table, right?
06:59Just get busy.
07:00About the possible starting quarterback of the Cleveland Browns in week three?
07:04There's other things going on, Ken.
07:05About a, a polarizing figure, a very popular figure. They couldn't put that part in there.
07:09Are you, are you telling me the truth or are you messing with me here?
07:14All right. Not the way I would have done it.
07:15Did there a show change yesterday?
07:16Not the way I would have done it, but okay.
07:18I, we, well, we got to move on to something, I guess, more important.
07:20I can't sit there and judge their show for leaving that out.
07:22That is honestly not good if that's the case.
07:25All right. So, you hear what Ryan Fitzpatrick says.
07:29I, I kind of want to know. Like, we are getting ready for a season.
07:31You saw what you saw. I'm sure a lot of people saw him signing autographs yesterday.
07:34You, you probably watched the game on Prime.
07:36They were very, very flowery to him.
07:40Do you think people are going to lighten up on Watson a little bit?
07:42No.
07:43Really?
07:44Not at all.
07:44I actually think, I think to some degree.
07:47Are you talking about for the first home game or for the away game to start the season?
07:52Just for the away game to start the season.
07:53No. In fact, I still think just as many people are looking for him to fail.
07:56They don't want him to play well.
07:58They don't want to have to see him.
07:59If they have a season ticket or if they have a ticket for the opener, they do not want to
08:02see him.
08:03Interesting.
08:032-1-6-4-7-4-0-0-92.
08:05I do think that people, when it's not just about how he's portrayed on Prime.
08:11It's not about forgetting what has allegedly happened, accusations.
08:15It's not about forgetting what he said on Saturday.
08:19And he didn't apologize on Saturday, but you've had former quarterbacks.
08:23Like, I was surprised Brady Quinn came out and said, absolutely not.
08:26You can't do that.
08:27Those fans.
08:27And I'm like, this is a guy who's been booed on that field before.
08:31Brady Quinn has been booed in there and had that opinion.
08:33I was like, that is really strong to hear from a former NFL quarterback there.
08:36And then you have Ryan Fitzpatrick.
08:38The first thing he says is, you can't do that.
08:40You cannot do that.
08:41And he did it.
08:41And the fans are upset.
08:43And I do think that last night, you know, you're trying to find storylines in a fourth preseason game.
08:48I know they talk a little bit about the lake and all the other things and the stadium and the
08:52new stadium.
08:53And then you get to Deshaun Watson.
08:54And you don't want to sit there and dwell on things that he hasn't been found guilty of.
09:00But you also, to be that positive about it, I'm going, man, they doing somebody a favor here or something
09:06like that?
09:06Like, there was a lot going on.
09:08And I think a lot like a Bronx fan.
09:11And sometimes that's not always the most rational way.
09:14And I also think that, yeah, like, I want them to win.
09:17It'd be great if I were wrong.
09:19And I think they're going to win five games, and they end up winning nine games or ten games or
09:23something like that.
09:24That'd be awesome.
09:25And I think this is the time of year where people go, well, you know, linebackers and the secondary.
09:31Man, you know, I know that we never heard of Michael Coach Jr. before this.
09:34But you know what?
09:35Just rolled his ankle.
09:36Shouldn't be a long-term thing.
09:37Coach Munkin said that afterwards.
09:39You know, I bet they're going to be a little bit better.
09:41Like, we start to tell ourselves this.
09:42You guys love to roll on the week before the game and hear me start to bump up the number
09:48and things like that.
09:48And then where?
09:49Things go straight to hell.
09:50But this is the time that happens.
09:52And I wonder if over the next week, because we've got two weeks, it lightens up a little bit on
09:57him.
09:58And you've got two weeks is a long time to try to get some understanding.
10:04Like, I don't think they'll ever forget that, what happened on Saturday, especially if he plays poorly.
10:09Because if he plays poorly, it doesn't matter who you are.
10:13You play like garbage.
10:15You're a professional football player.
10:17They're going to let you have it.
10:18He played like garbage.
10:19They let him have it.
10:21But I do question whether or not they may lighten up on him a little bit.
