00:00The Sessions Court in Kuala Terengganu has ordered Hijrah Healthcare Sendirian Berhad
00:05to pay more than RM359,000 to a 10-year-old boy and his family over a defective circumcision.
00:14Judge Wan Noor Aklimawan Saleh awarded RM300,000 in general damages
00:19and RM59,122.90 in special damages after allowing the mother of the child's counterclaim.
00:28The mother had filed the counterclaim after Hijrah Healthcare sued her and another Facebook user
00:34for defamation over negative reviews. But the court dismissed the suit as factual.
00:40Her son had undergone circumcision at the clinic in February 2023 and suffered non-stop bleeding
00:46after the procedure was performed by two doctors. The boy was later admitted to Sultanah Nur Zahira
00:53Hospital where doctors performed surgery to reduce the damage caused by the earlier procedure.
00:59Government doctors testified that the prolonged bleeding was abnormal and said they could not
01:05yet determine whether the injury would affect his future sexual function. The judge found the two
01:11doctors negligent, noting the boy suffered severe genital injury with permanent scarring. He also
01:17required extended hospitalisation and a full thickness skin graft. Aklima also held that the clinic's
01:24defamation suit was intended as leverage to obstruct the mother's medical negligence claim.
